Patent number: 4865518Abstract: This invention relates to ejector pumps, thrust- and lift-augmenting ejectors, and, more generally, to devices that are capable of inducing the flow of a fluid through direct transfer of energy and momentum to it from jets of another fluid. The efficiency of the energy exchange is increased if it is made to take place, at least in part, through the nondissipative work of interface pressure forces. This invention describes a method and apparatus for the generation, control, and utilization of this nondissipative component. The method described here imparts a transverse, paddle-like motion to the energizing jets without, however, imparting the same motion to the fluid particles that make up the jets themselves, hence at no cost in energy input. Energy is transferred from these "fluid paddles" to the surrounding fluid largely through the work of interface pressure forces.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1988Date of Patent: September 12, 1989Inventor: Joseph V. Patent number: 4863355Abstract: An air compressor is controlled such that when the pressure inside a tank for storing compressed air reaches a predetermined lower-limit value, the compressor is brought into a load running state to supply compressed air to the tank, whereas, when the pressure inside the tank reaches a predetermined upper-limit value, the compressor is brought into a stand-by state to suspend the supply of compressed air to the tank. The air compressor has a controller which judges the change in pressure inside the tank when the compressor is in a load running state on the basis of a signal delivered from a pressure sensor and effects control such that either one of two operations modes, that is, an intermittent operation mode in which the compressor stands by with the supply of electric power from a motor being cut off and a continuous operation mode in which the compressor stands by in a no-load state with the motor being supplied with electric power, is selected subsequent to a stand-by state.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1988Date of Patent: September 5, 1989Assignee: Tokico Ltd.Inventors: Akiharu Odagiri, Michinobu Setoyama

Patent number: 4861241Abstract: Apparatus by which a check valve assembly of a reciprocating pump can be removed. A valve stem of the valve assembly is received within a valve guide which is mounted in a valve guide bracket. The bracket is pivotally attached to a yoke. The yoke is removably fastened to an adaptor. The adaptor is seated in an access port arranged perpendicular respective to the passageway within which the valve seat is mounted. The compressive force of the valve spring maintains the bracket and yoke in assembled configuration respective to the adaptor. The bracket and yoke can be pivoted apart, against the spring force, and removed through the adaptor and then the adaptor can be removed from the access port, thereby gaining access to the remainder of the valve assembly.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1988Date of Patent: August 29, 1989Assignee: Parker Technology, Inc.Inventors: Gerardo Gamboa, Dwayne V. Patent number: 4861240Abstract: The pump comprises a pump body and a volute, mutually complementary with respect to one another, which once assembled form a waterproof container within which a permanent magnet rotor and an impeller are contained respectively in a first and in a second chamber. The stator part of the electric motor is provided externally to said waterproof container, and thus can never be affected by the liquid. The introduced improvements relate to the coupling between impeller and rotor and to the means adapted to make the rotor chamber waterproof, so that there cannot enter therein foreign matter, and in particular metallic dust, which by remaining associated with the permanent magnet of the rotor would prevent the rotation thereof, blocking its operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1988Date of Patent: August 29, 1989Assignee: Askoll S.r.l.Inventors: Elio Marioni, Vittorio Cavalcante

Patent number: 4861236Abstract: This invention comprises a birotational pump for the movement of air fluid through a conventional pumping mechanism. It is comprised of cylindrical piston housing, a pump shaft running through the piston housing, a piston linkage assembly secured to the pump shaft, a pair of valve plates which cover the ends of the piston housing and a cylindrical pump housing surrounding the piston housing to allow for the free movement of the piston and piston linkage. This invention will permit the free flow of fluid or air through the piston housing by creating a suction chamber in the piston housing. The fluid enters the valve plates which contain openings which line up with openings in the piston housing. As the shaft rotates the openings on the first end of the piston housing cease to line up with openings in the piston housing and openings in the second end line up to expel the fluid contained within the chamber of the piston housing cirutier of rotation of shaft can be changed.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1988Date of Patent: August 29, 1989Inventors: Ryon Kustes, Alan M. Patent number: 4856969Abstract: A hydraulically activated diaphragm pump. A pressure source is coupled to a pump diaphragm during a pump discharge stroke. During this discharge stroke, an air activated return assist cylinder is vented to atmosphere. On the return stroke the pump housing above the diaphragm is vented and the air cylinder activated. A single 4-way solenoid actuated valve controlled by an adjustable timer accomplishes this cylic pumping action. The timer is adjustable to set the number of pump cycles per minute and also adjusts the discharge stroke period of each cycle. A pressure regulator adjusts the pressure of air routed through the solenoid actuated valve to provide relatively high pressure air to the diaphragm on the discharge and low pressure air to the air cylinder on the return stroke.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1988Date of Patent: August 15, 1989Assignee: The Gorman-Rupp CompanyInventors: Carl Forsythe, John L.
