Abstract: This invention pertains to a retractable roller-hinge assembly for use with retractable overhead doors. More particularly, this invention relates to a novel roller-hinge assembly which when installed on conventional retractable overhead doors, such as garage doors warehouse doors or truck doors, enables the door panels to pull away more quickly from the door frame as the overhead door is raised, or lowered. A hinge assembly for connecting upper and lower panels of a retractable overhead door comprising: (a) upper devices for securing to the upper panel; (b) lower devices adapted for securing to the lower panel, the lower devices being hingedly connected by a pivotal axis to the upper devices; (c) roller and roller axle devices rotatably connected to the upper devices, said roller and axle devices being adapted to move towards the lower devices as the upper devices are pivoted about the pivotal axis.
Abstract: Wheel (10) for roller drawer guides, whose body (12) made of a hard plastic of stable shape journaled on a wheel axle has a circumferential groove (18) in its rim, in which there is disposed a tire (20) of resiliently deformable material, preferably elastomeric plastic, anchored in at least one bore or opening (22) in the wheel body and slightly proud of the rim (16) of the wheel. The at least one bore or opening is configured as a through-bore (22) running radially from the bottom of the groove (18) to the surface of the journal bore (14) in the wheel body (12).

Abstract: There is disclosed a friction hinge assembly capable of providing hinged motion of two elements with a programmable frictional torque. The frictional torque can be made to vary with the angular orientation of the two hinged elements. The frictional hinge assembly is comprised of a band wrapped around a pintle which is constrained to move rotationally with the first hinged element. One end of the band has a lug configured to press against the second hinged element, exerting thereupon a torque about the pintle. The other end of the band has a tail to which is applied a controlled force to produce the desired frictional torque between the band and the pintle.
Abstract: A lock shoe system for an especially heavy sash has shoes with lock bolts that can be moved into locking positions by means of a tool that moves a bolt from underneath a shoe so that the bolt interlocks with a lance in the jamb liner. Once the shoes are locked to the jambs, the sash can be lifted off the shoes, moved laterally within the jambs, and angled out of the window for removal. The shoes guide the sash to a centered position as it is returned to its platforms; and when the shoes are unlocked from the jambs, the lock bolts preferably retain the sash on the shoe platforms.
Abstract: A system of movable panels supported from overhead tracks by carriers engaged in the tracks. The panels are movable between a storage area and operable positions by moving the carriers along the tracks. The tracks are provided with an arrangement of bars which are selectively positioned at the junction between angularly related track sections. These bars, in cooperation with a preselected portion or portions of the carriers, permit only certain panels to move from one track section into another and blocking the entry of others. In addition, an arrangement of diverters are selectively positioned in the track sections in the area of the junction between track sections. These diverters, in cooperation with a preselected portion, or portions, of the carriers prevent certain panels from continuing along a given track section and divert those panels into an adjacent, angularly related track section.
Abstract: A half hinge paint masking cover for doors, and/or door frames is provided as a one piece body molded of a rigid thermoplastic resin. The device includes two molded half cavities each cavity being connected by a thin flexible membrane of the molded material. The first cavity area covers the back surface area of the hinge barrel and has two half end shields each of which cover half the edge area of the hinge barrel and the exposed edge area of the hinge plate. The second cavity half covers the front surface half of the hinge barrel and has two end shields which cover half the edge area of the hinge barrel. A portion connected to the second cavity half includes a long flat area which covers the exposed face side of the hinge plate. The two half cavities are secured to each other by folding along the flexible membrane and engulfing the door or frame half hinge until pins projecting from tops on one half engage and protrude through holes which are located on tabs on the other half.

Abstract: A handle, for the female half of a quick-action coupling of the type including a body having a first end adapted to receive a hose and a second end adapted to receive the male half of the coupling, a grasping means coupled to the body for releasably grasping the male half of the coupling when inserted into the second end of the body, and a spring-biased slide member coupled to the body and co-acting with the grasping means for causing a locking engagement between the male and female halves. The handle comprises a housing having an interior opening in a first end thereof dimensioned so as to receive the female half of the coupling therein in a loose-fit sliding manner.
Abstract: A gate hinge member is designed for attachment to a metal T-post fence post. The gate hinge comprises at least one pair of first and second L-shaped hinge members, which are secured by means of a U-shaped fastener to the T-post in a tight wedged relationship. The spacing between the hinge members is selected to accommodate a hinge pin, which is passed through a pair of spaced holes in hinge-pin holding plates of the first and second hinge members. The hinge-pin holding plates extend outwardly perpendicular to the T-post. The hinge pin is adapted to be passed through a mating cylindrical hinge member on the gate to pivotally secure the gate in place between the hinge members. After assembly, the hinge pin is releaseably secured in place by means of cotter pins passed through holes adjacent each of the ends of the hinge pin. The gate hinge may be placed in any vertical position on the face of a T-post, and cannot accidently be dismantled.
Abstract: An oven door is provided with a mechanism for controlling the rate of door opening and closing. The mechanism includes first and second parts pivotably connected to the oven body and oven door, respectively. A rotary element interconnects the first and second parts in such manner that those parts are relatively longitudinally movable when the door is opened and closed, and such that the rotary member is induced to rotate in response to such relative movement. The rotary member frictionally engages the first and second parts such that relative movement between the parts produces friction forces tending to resist such relative movement and thereby control the rate of opening and closing of the door.

Abstract: A floor glide for furniture and the like includes a concavo-convex disk having an arcuate convex lower surface, a concave upper surface defining a central cavity, a resilient pad fixed to the disk upper surface within the central cavity below the edge thereof, and adhesive for securing the resilient pad to the bottom of furniture. The glide permits furniture to be moved easily along the surface of the floor.
Abstract: A tool reach extender includes a pair of elongated, telescopically coupled, first and second, extension members and a locking assembly for releasably locking the members in a selected position. The second member is slidably received within the first member and also includes a locking hole defined therein. The preferred locking assembly includes a tubular housing coaxially mounted to the first member supporting a transversely shiftable locking pin for receipt in the locking hole for locking the members in a selected relative position.

Abstract: A door accessory, such as a door hinge or a door check, includes a hydraulic retarding device for cushioning the closing action of a door. The hydraulic retarding device has a cylinder body which confines a fluid receiving space to receive hydraulic fluid therein. One end of a piston rod extends into the fluid receiving space and has a valve unit provided thereon. The valve unit includes a piston which is formed with perforations and which forms a clearance with the cylinder body and a valve ring which is loosely sleeved on the piston rod.
Abstract: An engaging plate is provided on a handle, and a lock lever is provided to be engaged with a hook of the engaging plate. A spring is provided to urge the lock lever so as to engage the lock lever with the hook to lock the handle. The handle is released by a slide plate provided to be engaged with the lock lever. A pushbutton is fixed to the slide plate for pushing the slide plate. When the slide plate is pushed, the lock lever is rotated to release the lock lever from the hook.
Abstract: A sash counterbalance device for a fume hood including a first cable having a first end and a second end, the first end being secured on the left side of a fume hood sash and wherein a first counterweight is secured on the second end of the first cable; a second cable having a first end and a second end, the first end of the second cable being secured on the right side of the sash, and wherein a second counterweight is secured on the second end of the second cable; and an axle which is mounted on the fume hood. The first and second cables are individually, separably, and concentrically wrapped about the axle such that movement of the sash causes a simultaneous movement of the axle by movement of the counterweights axle in a predetermined direction.

Abstract: To prevent "shimmying", due to uncontrolled swivelling of a castor during non-engagement of its wheel or wheels with the ground, frictional resistance to swivelling is provided. An upper or lower cap or cover for the bearing between the castor body and its mounting head can thus be non-rotatably engaged with the mounting head and frictionally engaged with the body. Additionally, or instead, a spring washer around the mounting head in an aperture in the body containing the bearing can provide this friction.
Abstract: A device for opening and shutting in two directions a lid disposed rotatably on an opening of a box body includes a pair of rotary shafts and a pair of lock shafts severally disposed in opposite lateral parts of the opening of the box body, coil springs for interconnecting the rotary and lock shafts on the respective sides thereof and urging the lock shafts toward the corresponding rotary shafts, and an operating member for causing the lock shafts to be moved away from the corresponding rotary shafts against the resilient force of the springs. The opposite lateral parts of the lid have first engaging holes for engagement with the rotary shafts and second engaging holes for engagement with the lock shafts severally formed therein. The springs produce a pressing action to enable the lock shafts to be independently released from the corresponding second engaging holes.

Abstract: A hinge mechanism for a vehicle seat assembly is disclosed which includes a leaf spring on the seat back arm of the hinge with one end extending from the seat back arm and engaging the edge of a plate member across which the spring and slides as the seat back is rotated from its upright operative position to a forward dump position. In the upright position, the spring end is seated into a radially recessed detent portion in the plate member to hold the seat back in its upright position. The leaf spring prevents a slight forward rotation of the seat back when the seat back is unoccupied during normal vehicle operation.
