  • Patent number: 10294944
Abstract: A flow thru mechanical bearing system can be used in an implantable rotary blood pump that includes a pump housing. An impeller housed in the pump housing can be radially supported by a row of at least three low friction contact points located on an inside bore of the impeller. The impeller may be axially supported by a second mechanical bearing. The second mechanical bearing may provide at least three axial contact points on the top surfaces of the impeller. The impeller is driven by a magnetic coupling which functions mainly to transmit torque to the impeller. Further, in some cases, the magnetic coupling may restrain axial motion of the impeller.

  • Patent number: 9671033
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a solenoid actuated inlet valve to a pump chamber of a piston pump. A control circuit energizes the solenoid to open the inlet valve in synchronism with the reciprocation of the piston and thereafter de-energize the solenoid to initiate closure of the inlet valve. The inlet valve is decelerated following de-energization of the solenoid thus effectively reducing engine noise attributable to the inlet valve.

  • Patent number: 9353753
Abstract: An electrical submersible pump (ESP) having a sleeve coupled to the shaft that rotates as the shaft rotates. The sleeve can be a base portion of a pump impeller, a journal bearing, or a bushing. A drive collar mounts around the shaft and has an end with a portion that projects past an end of the sleeve profiled to correspond with the shape of the projecting portion. As the shaft rotates the drive collar the projecting portion of the drive collar pushes against the profiled end of the sleeve to rotate the sleeve. The projecting portion can be a wedge shaped tab on the drive collar, or an angular segment of the drive collar extending axially past the remaining segments. The profiled end of the sleeve can include a recess formed to receive the tab and can have an angular segment corresponding to that on the drive collar.
