  • Patent number: 10319228
Abstract: The technology relates to detecting and responding to emergency vehicles. This may include using a plurality of microphones to detect a siren noise corresponding to an emergency vehicle and to estimate a bearing of the emergency vehicle. This estimated bearing is compared to map information to identify a portion of roadway on which the emergency vehicle is traveling. In addition, information identifying a set of objects in the vehicle's environment as well as characteristics of those objects is received from a perception system is used to determine whether one of the set of objects corresponds to the emergency vehicle. How to respond to the emergency vehicle is determined based on the estimated bearing and identified road segments and the determination of whether one of the set of objects corresponds to the emergency vehicle. This determined response is then used to control the vehicle in an autonomous driving mode.

  • Patent number: 10303947
Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a first-information acquirer, a second-information acquirer, a judger, and a presentation controller. The first-information acquirer acquires first information indicating a type of an ingredient provided for preparation and an amount of the ingredient. The second-information acquirer acquires second information indicating an amount that is needed for an ingredient of the type in a recipe. The judger judges a magnitude relationship between the amount indicated by the first information and the amount indicated by the second information. The presentation controller causes a presenter to present third information indicating, in accordance with the judged magnitude relationship, the amount indicated by the second information versus the amount indicated by the first information.

  • Patent number: 10262478
Abstract: A vehicle-data recorder records vehicle data into a storage when a recording condition is satisfied. The recording condition includes a condition that a steering-related value representing a state of a steering operation performed by a driver or a vehicle behavior caused by the steering operation is greater than or equal to a threshold value. The vehicle-data recorder includes: an object-information obtainer that obtains object information relating to an object in an area; and a threshold-value changer that changes the threshold value to a smaller value when a relative positional relationship between an own vehicle and the object located in the area and identified based on the obtained object information is a specific relationship in which it is estimated that a steering operation is to be performed in a direction in which the own vehicle avoids the object, than when the relative positional relationship is not the specific relationship.

  • Patent number: 10262528
Abstract: An alert may be triggered to notify a pedestrian of the current operational mode of a nearby vehicle. For instance, a vehicle may operate in an autonomous or manual mode, and may occasionally switch from one mode to the other. A pedestrian who may be unaware of the current operational mode of a nearby vehicle may notice the alert and proceed accordingly. In one embodiment, an indication of the current operational mode of the nearby vehicle may be transmitted to an electronic device associated with the pedestrian. The device may generate a notification to the pedestrian based on the current operational mode. In an additional or alternative embodiment, the alert may be transmitted by the vehicle externally to be visible or audible to the pedestrian. In some embodiments, the alert may be triggered only for particular operational modes (e.g., only for autonomous or only for manual).
