  • Patent number: 6442791
Abstract: The invention provides a vacuum cleaner having a dirty air inlet, a clean air outlet and dirt and dust separating apparatus lying in an air flow path therebetween, wherein the air flow path has a substantially uniform cross-sectional area between the dirty air inlet and the separating apparatus and between the separating apparatus and the clean air outlet. The uniformity of the cross-sectional area reduces frictional losses and reduces pressure drops within the cleaner. Some portions of the air flow path are preferably removable from the cleaner to allow access for maintenance and removal of blockages.

  • Patent number: 6438793
Abstract: A portable surface cleaning apparatus including a liquid dispensing system including a flexible bladder defining a fluid supply chamber for holding a supply of cleaning fluid and a fluid recovery tank having a fluid recovery chamber for holding recovered fluid and housing the flexible bladder. A fluid passageway between the fluid supply chamber and the recovery chamber equalizes the pressure in the flexible bladder as the cleaning fluid is dispensed from the supply chamber and the dirty liquid is collected in the recovery chamber. A lid mounted on the tank defines an expansion chamber having an inlet opening, an outlet passage, and first and second diverters against which the working air flow reverses direction twice between the inlet opening of the expansion chamber and the tank.

  • Patent number: 6440227
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner capable of collecting wet or dry media includes a hose having an inlet end and an outlet end that is coupled to the vacuum cleaner. A motor is supported by a portion of the vacuum cleaner and applies a vacuum to the outlet end of the vacuum hose. A media inlet is positioned near the inlet end of the vacuum hose. An air intake for admitting air into the vacuum hose is provided near the media inlet. The air intake can be adapted to receive a detachable separate device in order to provide an air intake that is remotely positioned from the media inlet. Alternatively, the air intake can be provided on an attachment to or an integral part of the vacuum hose for providing the air intake at a remote distance from the media inlet. A distal end of the vacuum hose is immersed in a liquid to be collected so that the media inlet is immersed in the liquid and so that the air intake is exposed to a source of air.

  • Patent number: 6434783
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing food and grease in a wastewater stream from a food service facility. Vacuum is supplied to a suction hose, which is used to remove food and grease from plates and utensils prior to these being introduced into the water flow. The food and grease is collected in a waste container for separate disposal. The suction hose may be fitted with a scrubber head for breaking up and removing the materials. The vacuum may be supplied by an air pressure operated vacuum transducer, or by an exhaust blower. The invention thus solves the problem of high BOD, FOG and TSS levels in wastewater streams from food service facilities, which generate excessive loads on both on-site septic systems and municipal waste water treatment plants.

  • Patent number: 6430772
Abstract: A duct cleaning apparatus having one or more suction hose racks for storing straight lengths of suction tubing. Because the suction hose racks allow suction hose to be stored efficiently within the duct cleaning apparatus, the apparatus may include sufficient storage space for simultaneously storing multiple straight lengths of suction hose, a portable duct cleaning unit, a boroscope, and other tools. The duct cleaning apparatus may also have a plurality of air hoses which may be operated simultaneously to allow users to perform two or more air sweeps simultaneously on a duct.

  • Patent number: 6427284
Abstract: A vacuum hose storage unit for insertion within a wall is described that includes a housing with a nozzle/retractor compartment and a hose storage compartment. An opening in the hose storage compartment is in communication with an external conduit leading to a remote vacuum source. Initially, the housing can be used to connect a separately stored hose to the vacuum source by positioning an inlet connector in the nozzle/retractor compartment, and connecting an internal conduit from the inlet connector to the opening in the hose compartment. Subsequently, the internal conduit can be replaced with a hose that is stored in the hose storage compartment and a retractor to extend the hose through the nozzle/retractor compartment. One part of the nozzle/retractor compartment can be covered with a wall covering, with the retractor being inserted into another part of the nozzle/retractor compartment and then moved behind the wall covering.

  • Patent number: 6421875
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner floor tool in which offset air intake openings create multiple organized vortices in the vacuum chamber of the floor tool. Air intake openings on the side of the tool produce horizontally oriented vortices and allow the cleaning to be effective along the edge of the tool. A curved or broadened tool edge prevents the tool from being drawn into carpet by vacuum, and allows it to be pushed with little resistance across carpet even though the vacuum within the vacuum chamber is strong enough to produce high air flow through the air intake slots.

  • Patent number: 6415474
Abstract: Apparatus for transporting rod-shaped tobacco smoke filters, which contain and/or carry particles of charcoal and/or other particulate tobacco smoke filtering and/or flavoring material, wherein a sender directs a series of successive filters lengthwise into a pneumatic conduit extending toward or into a receiving station. A section of the conduit ahead of the receiving station is provided with openings communicating with a collecting chamber. A duct which extends along the section of the conduit is provided with orifices serving to direct jets of a pressurized gaseous fluid into the openings to thus expel loose particles and/or particles adhering to the external surfaces of filters into the collecting chamber. The latter discharges collected particles by gravity flow.
