  • Patent number: 5660325
Abstract: A method and mechanism for opening a paperboard carton that is child resistant. A dual-tab arrangement is used whereby one tab is removed to expose a second tab. The second tab is connected to a tape that is attached to and circles the interior of the carton. When the second tab is pulled it pulls with it the tape. The tape is pulled through the wall of the carton and sequentially severs the carton. The tape circles back to where the second tab was first pulled and, as a result, the carton is completely severed and the user is able to dispense the product contained within the carton.

  • Patent number: 5655708
Abstract: A tray for containing fluid-exuding foods, such as meat, fish and the like, comprises a laminate having upper and lower laminae, with openings in the upper lamina. Fluid retaining cavities are formed in the lower lamina or between adjacent lamina to keep exuded liquids away from the food and out of sight of the purchaser. The upper surface of the lower lamina is embossed to form regularly shaped liquid containment cells. The openings in the upper layer are preferable aligned in accordance with a predefined pattern and in register with the cells on the lower lamina. An intermediate lamina of absorbent material and a reticulate lamina may be disposed between the upper and lower lamina.

  • Patent number: 5655914
Abstract: Connectors having press fit mating shrouds. The connectors are formed from long strips of pin headers, which are cut to a length equal to the desired number of connector positions plus four additional positions. A pre-molded shroud is then press fit to each end of the cut pin header. The pre-molded shrouds include vertical holes which are sized to fit snugly over the pins on the end position of the cut pin header in order to remain in place after placement. Additionally, the shrouds include vertical slots which snugly receive the pins on the second-to-last position on each end of the pin header. Because the last two positions on each end of the cut pin header are covered by the shrouds, the completed connector includes the desired number of connector positions. Furthermore, the only items that must be inventoried are the long strips of pin headers and the pre-molded shrouds. Any desired size of connector may be formed from these two components.

  • Patent number: 5653601
Abstract: A terminal socket assembly is adapted for mounting on a printed circuit board and includes a conductive terminal socket having a barrel portion insertable axially into a hole in the printed circuit board, with radially outwardly projecting wing portions for soldering to solder pads on the circuit board. A terminal-receiving dielectric housing mounts the terminal socket therewithin. The housing has walls which extend circumferentially about portions of the barrel portion of the terminal socket to prevent solder from wicking along exposed areas of the terminal and interfering with mating. The anti-solder wicking design allows a connector or component to be surface mounted directly on the surface of a circuit board to maximize the density of the entire assembly and the device in which it is used.

  • Patent number: 5653616
Abstract: A receptacle terminal having a receptacle end for receiving a pin terminal, the receptacle end including a body portion from which opposed contact walls extend between similarly extending strut walls, the walls forming a forwardly disposed shroud portion where the contact walls are connected to adjacent strut walls. A cantilevered contact arm for engaging the pin terminal is struck from one of the contact walls, leaving an opening therein having a tab formed along one of the strut walls. The contact wall being deformed to bring the tab over the contact arm, whereby deflection of the contact arm is opposed by the strut wall providing increased strength.
