  • Patent number: 10065059
Abstract: An autonomous firefighting tower is a structure that is deployed into a firefighting zone for extinguishing a fire as well as for protecting firefighting personnel on the ground. The structure is able to self-level when being deployed on uneven terrain and requires minimal setup aside from connection to an external water source. A plurality of tower supports is hingedly connected to a base platform and may be adjusted to the terrain. Additional adjustability is provided through a plurality of self-leveling legs. A plurality of stabilizing members provides structural support and stability to the structure during self-leveling and when deployed. A fluid dispenser is connected to the base platform. Water is provided to the fluid dispenser from an external source through a fluid conduit. A control unit and at least one camera allow a remote operator to operate the structure during a firefighting operation.

  • Patent number: 10018138
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to fuel injectors. The teachings may be embodied in a method for characterizing a hydraulic coupling element. The fuel injector may have a piston to pressurize a hydraulic medium and a pin connecting the piston to a piezoactuator. The method may include applying a charging current to the piezo actuator low enough that the leakage flow prevents a pressure differential and the nozzle needle remains closed; discharging the piezo actuator with a current high enough to release the mechanical connection between the piston and the pin; detecting when the piston impacts on the pin; and characterizing the coupling element based on the time between discharge and impact.

  • Patent number: 9999792
Abstract: A dual air vent allows air or gas to be vented from a wet pipe fire protection sprinkler system, but inhibits water from spilling out. A conventional first air vent valve is operative to vent air or gas as a pipe is filled with water, but not vent the water. However, it may discharge a small amount of water when the pipe fills and substantially all air or gas has been vented. The output of the first air vent valve is not released into the protected premises, but rather is routed to a reservoir having a second air vent. Air or gas is vented through the second air vent, but any water discharged by the first air vent valve is retained in the reservoir. The reservoir is connected to the pipe by a one-way valve which allows air flow in either direction, and allows water flow from the reservoir to the pipe, but blocks water flow from the pipe to the reservoir. When the pipe is again drained, water retained in the reservoir is allowed to flow into the pipe, where it is also drained.

  • Patent number: 9993672
Abstract: A method and device for suppressing an electrical fire within an electrical wire carrying conduit. The device is a flexible receptacle containing an admixture of super absorbent polymer and water having substantially superior fire suppression and extinguishing properties that does not provide an electrically conductive environment. The receptacle is drawn though a conduit either before or after wires have been placed in the conduit, and the filled with the admixture. A sleeve may be placed over the receptacle to prevent breaching of the receptacle during installation. Once the receptacle and admixture is positioned within the conduit, should arcing or a buildup of heat occur, the receptacle will rupture and the admixture will cover the specific area. These particular properties and ratios of the admixture will enable electrical fires to be extinguished more rapidly and not flare back up. The admixture further encapsulates noxious and toxic gases associated with electrical fires.
