  • Patent number: 9801573
Abstract: A color image sensor captures a reflected image of narrowband light having a wavelength range in which an extinction coefficient varies with a change in an oxygen saturation level of hemoglobin in blood. Thereby a first blue signal, a first green signal, and a first red signal are obtained. The color image sensor captures a reflected image of white light. Thereby a second blue signal, a second green signal, and a second red signal are obtained. Only an oxygen saturation level, out of two or more types of biological functional information including a blood volume and the oxygen saturation level, is obtained based on the first blue signal, the second green signal, and the second red signal. The oxygen saturation level is visualized to produce an oxygen saturation image.

  • Patent number: 9795296
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a system, apparatus and methods for measurement of biometric data of a diver. In many embodiments, the system includes a mouthpiece having a sensor device comprising a light emitter and detector configured to emit and detect light at a wavelength having an absorbance correlated with a level of a blood gas saturation e.g., oxygen, nitrogen, CO2. The emitter is positioned to emit light onto oral tissue of the diver and the detector positioned to detect light which is received from the oral tissue either by transmittance of light through the oral tissue or by reflection of light from the tissue. The target oral tissue can include one or both of gum or buccal tissue. Such embodiments allow data to be collected without having to wear additional sensors or measurement devices and allow for measurement of blood gas levels as the diver breaths through their mouthpiece.

Abstract: Methods of exerting magnetic forces to separate magnetic particles disposed in a portion of subsurface vasculature using a wearable device are provided. The magnetic forces can act to attract, slow, speed, or otherwise influence the magnetic particles in various applications. In some examples, different magnetic forces are exerted on respective sets of magnetic particles to separate the respective sets of magnetic particles. In some examples, similar magnetic forces are exerted on sets of magnetic particles, and separation of the sets of magnetic particles is related to properties of the sets of magnetic particles and/or of the environment of the sets of magnetic particles. In some embodiments, the magnetic particles are configured to bind to an analyte of interest. The separation of the magnetic particles can enable detection of one or more properties of the analyte, modification of the analyte, and/or extraction of the analyte bound to the magnetic particles.

  • Patent number: 9775529
Abstract: The invention provides a body-worn system that continuously measures pulse oximetry and blood pressure, along with motion, posture, and activity level, from an ambulatory patient. The system features an oximetry probe that comfortably clips to the base of the patient's thumb, thereby freeing up their fingers for conventional activities in a hospital, such as reading and eating. The probe secures to the thumb and measures time-dependent signals corresponding to LEDs operating near 660 and 905 nm. Analog versions of these signals pass through a low-profile cable to a wrist-worn transceiver that encloses a processing unit. Also within the wrist-worn transceiver is an accelerometer, a wireless system that sends information through a network to a remote receiver, e.g. a computer located in a central nursing station.

  • Patent number: 9757058
Abstract: Light beams emitted from one or more light sources may be directed into an abdomen of a pregnant mammal toward a fetus contained therein. Some of the light may be reflected by the pregnant woman and fetus and received at a detector over a first time. A photo detector into an electronic reflected signal, which may be communicated to a computer, may then convert the received light. The electronic reflected signal may then be processed and/or analyzed to isolate a portion of the electronic reflected signal reflected from the fetus. The isolated portion of the electronic reflected signal reflected from the fetus may then be analyzed to determine a fetal hemoglobin oxygen saturation level of the fetus. An indication of the fetal hemoglobin oxygen saturation level may then be provided to an operator by way of, for example, a computer display.

  • Patent number: 9743864
Abstract: A method for non-invasive blood glucose monitoring includes the following steps. At least one ray of light is emitted from at least one light source. The light emitted from the light source is leaded into an eyeball and focused on the eyeball through a first beam splitter. The reflected light reflected from the eyeball is transmitted through the first beam splitter to a set of photo detectors. Optical angular information and absorption energy information of the reflected light transmitted to the set of photo detectors are measured. Optical angular difference and absorption energy difference resulting from the light emitted from the light source and the reflected light transmitted to the set of photo detectors are obtained. Glucose information is obtained by analyzing the optical angular difference and the absorption energy difference, and since glucose information has a corresponding relationship with blood glucose information, blood glucose information may be read.

  • Patent number: 9730640
Abstract: A processor provides signal quality based limits to a signal strength operating region of a pulse oximeter. These limits are superimposed on the typical gain dependent signal strength limits. If a sensor signal appears physiologically generated, the pulse oximeter is allowed to operate with minimal signal strength, maximizing low perfusion performance. If a sensor signal is potentially due to a signal induced by a dislodged sensor, signal strength requirements are raised. Thus, signal quality limitations enhance probe off detection without significantly impacting low perfusion performance. One signal quality measure used is pulse rate density, which defines the percentage of time physiologically acceptable pulses are occurring. If the detected signal contains a significant percentage of unacceptable pulses, the minimum required signal strength is raised proportionately.

  • Patent number: 9724024
Abstract: An adaptive alarm system is responsive to a physiological parameter so as to generate an alarm threshold that adapts to baseline drift in the parameter and reduce false alarms without a corresponding increase in missed true alarms. The adaptive alarm system has a parameter derived from a physiological measurement system using a sensor in communication with a living being. A baseline processor calculates a parameter baseline from a parameter trend. Parameter limits specify an allowable range of the parameter. An adaptive threshold processor calculates an adaptive threshold from the parameter baseline and the parameter limits. An alarm generator is responsive to the parameter and the adaptive threshold so as to trigger an alarm indicative of the parameter crossing the adaptive threshold.
