    Abstract: The present subject matter relates to methodologies for providing error correction compensation to measurement systems. Data-dependant jitter may be compensated by examining both short-term and long-term bit histories after applying a predetermined synthesized calibration pattern having selected characteristics to the measurement system. Neural networks may be provided to produce error correction signals that may be applied to measured data on a bit-by-bit basis to correct jitter. The synthesized calibration sequence may correspond to a base pattern having two segments; a first segment may correspond to a copy of the base pattern while the second segment may be a copy of the base pattern with some sections inverted.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a dual velocity method and apparatus for measuring flow rate of a fluid, independent of flow regime, the fluid having a plurality of components, at least one of which is capable of existing in an oil continuous phase emulsion in a conduit. The present invention only measures component fluid flow rates for components of the fluid which may include at least an oil continuous phase emulsion, but not a component including a water continuous phase emulsion. Velocity slip is directly determined by cross correlations of fluid electrical property signals which are used to measure the two most predominant velocities in a multiphase velocity distribution. Furthermore, phase velocity measurements are further improved by cross correlating signals from a pair of downstream sensors which are shifted a predetermined radial angle offset from corresponding pair of upstream diametrically positioned sensors.

    Abstract: In control systems (5) for internal combustion engines (14) in motor vehicles it is known that fault diagnoses are carried out to ensure the functional reliability of the internal combustion engine (14) or the motor vehicle even in the event of a fault. If a fault symptom (1) occurs, the cause of the fault is determined and a diagnosis manager (3) is used as a rule to deactivate the defective control system (5) completely or to initiate an emergency operation function. It is proposed that all information relating to fault symptoms should be listed, the actual cause should be determined by comparison with stored fault profiles and as a result only the smallest possible restriction of the functions of the relevant control systems (5) should be initiated. This has the advantage that the control system (5) can as a rule continue to be operated despite their restricted functional scope.
