  • Patent number: 4715279
Abstract: A Supplementary Liquid Dispensing Device is disclosed. The Supplementary Liquid Dispensing Device is particularly useful in lithographic printing presses and in particular for dampening systems within such presses. The device dispenses from an enclosed source of a given liquid a continuous flow of the given liquid which is part of a fountain solution of the dampening system by metering the continuous flow of liquid proportionate to the rate of evaporization of the liquid in a fountain solution with very minimal evaporization loss of the liquid by the device. The device reduces air polution particularly when a volitile liquid such as alcohol is a part of the fountain solution. The device also has the advantage of supplementing and replacing alcohol in a fountain solution in a very inexpensive way without the use of a highly sophisticated and complex electronic system.

  • Patent number: 4715361
Abstract: Apparatus for passively exercising the human extremities includes an elongate track (16) comprising a tubular housing (46) having a slot formed in the bottom thereof. A lead screw (62) is longitudinally disposed in the housing and a carriage (26) is threadably engaged with the lead screw (62). The carriage (26) is connected to the extremity to be exercised, so that upon movement of the carriage (26) back and forth along the elongated track (16) the extremity is moved through a pre-determined range of motion. Stop members (28) are positionable on the housing in the path of movement of the carriage (26). Engagement of the carriage (26) with the stop member (28) effects longitudinal shifting of the lead screw (62). Longitudinal shifting of the lead screw (62) actuates switches (110) which reverse the direction of rotation of the lead screw (62) thereby reversing the direction of movement of the carriage (26).

  • Patent number: 4671284
Abstract: A personal sauna has a horizontally extending bed for supporting an individual in a recumbent position, and combines the benefits of heat and vibration by means of a transversely recirculating air system and a motive means which simultaneously moves the bed with both relatively fast vibrations and relatively slow, longitudinally oscillating rocking motions. The air recirculation system comprises a chamber extending longitudinally beneath the bed supporting the individual, and two elongated heating elements disposed below opposite side regions of the bed heat air which is then directed upwardly to a compartment surrounding the body at substantially equal airflow rates along the entire length of the bed. Transverse airflow through the compartment minimizes the face velocity of the flowing air, and thereby reduces the likelihood of drafts while substantially eliminating the occurrence of localized relatively hot regions within the compartment.

  • Patent number: 4667658
Abstract: A technique for applying therapeutic heat to a skin surface area of a patient whose threshold of sensitivity is determined by that temperature level of the heating medium to which the patient is continuously exposed, above which the patient experiences discomfort. In this technique, the skin surface area is exposed to a heating medium whose temperature is at a base level that is well above ambient but no higher than the temperature sensitivity threshold, the temperature of the medium being periodically raised above the base level to create high heat energy pulses whose peaks are much higher than the threshold. The duty cycle of the pulses is such as to allow for internal heat transfer to take place in the region below the exposed area of the patient in the intervals between pulses to an extent preventing an excessive rise in temperature at the skin surface whereby the patient gains the benefit of high heat energy treatment without discomfort or injury.

  • Patent number: 4651720
Abstract: A massaging and showering assembly comprising a guide rail along which a carriage holding a massage and shower head can be moved vertically; a water flow reversing control-unit and a piston-cylinder arrangement which is connected to a water line and with which the carriage is in communication. Known assemblies of this kind have been of costly and generally heavy design, the guide rail, in particular being freely accessible and highly exposed to dirt and damage. They also occupy a relatively large space and are very difficult to install in shower cabins. In contrast to this, the assembly of the present invention is to be produced at low production cost, to be light and compact, but to be highly reliable and while having great stability. This new assembly provides a carriage guiding rail with an inner chamber for the piston-cylinder arrangement, the inner chamber comprising a closing front wall.
