The clamp is adapted to engage and secure to an anchor in a fixed vertical position, the anchor being secured to a first bone location. The measurement arm comprises an elongate portion and a locator portion that extends angularly from the elongate portion. The measurement arm is slidably supported on the clamp. The measurement arm is further rotatably supported on the clamp at a position in which an axis of rotation of the measurement arm is spaced apart from a longitudinal axis of the anchor.
Abstract: Conventional modular sockets for ball joint prostheses usually consist of a metal socket housing and a skid-type shell inserted in the housing. Ceramic skid-type shells are usually press-fitted in the socket housing. The socket housing may become stiff, thereby causing a migration of the generic sockets. If the skid-type shell is inserted improperly, material may chip off at the edge of the skid-type shell. Due to the various designs of sockets, skid-type shells with different outer diameter have to be made available for every gliding surface diameter. The invention provides for a ceramic skid-type shell (2) that is rigidly inserted into a biocompatible metal ring (5). Said ring (5) is provided with at least three radially outwards extending fixing elements (6). Said fixing elements (6) engage with respective recesses (8) in the socket housing (7). The ring (5) is spaced apart from the socket housing (7) by a gap (14).
Abstract: Surface irregularities are removed from the inner wall of a femur cavity, preferably tapered. A tamp having an opening and a socket is disposed in the cavity. The tamp may be one of a plurality of tamps each having a different length for the opening. A guide, one of a plurality, fits snugly in the opening. The guide has a collar which cooperates with the tamp socket to limit the movement of the guide into the tamp. A working portion of each guide below the intermediate position has a bulbous shape which is tapered in accordance with the femur taper. Bone fragments between the guide working portion and the femur inner wall are packed against the inner wall when the tamp and the guide are driven into the femur cavity. Numerals on the guide adjacent a slot in the tamp indicate the disposition of the guide in the tamp.
Abstract: A solenoid valve includes an electromagnetic drive unit for generating a magnetomotive force when being fed with electric power. There are a controlled-fluid passage and an accommodation chamber containing the electromagnetic drive unit. A partition wall defines a part of the controlled-fluid passage. A valve opening extends through the partition wall. A shaft extending through the valve opening is driven by the electromagnetic drive unit. A valve member fixed to the shaft moves into and out of contact with the partition wall to block and unblock the valve opening in accordance with movement of the shaft. A thin-film sealing member made of rubber-based resilient material operates for airtightly separating the controlled-fluid passage and the accommodation chamber from each other. A communication passage connects the accommodation chamber and an exterior. An orifice provides a smaller effective cross-sectional area of the communication passage.
Abstract: A gas-lift valve includes a valve member having an inner wall defining a flow passage having a longitudinal axis, the valve member having a planar inlet end and an outlet end, the inner wall diverging from the inlet end to the outlet end so that the flow passage increases in cross sectional area from the inlet end to said outlet end.
Abstract: A fail safe valve actuator is disclosed that is powered by an electric motor which drives through a wrap spring clutch and a centrifugal brake configured to absorb a portion of the energy released when the power fails and the valve stem is moved rapidly to its fail safe position by an actuator spring. The valve member is held in operating position by a solenoid. When power fails, a spring moves the valve stem in the other direction to move the valve member to its fail safe position. A torque limiting device is mounted adjacent the output end of a gear train to protect the gear train and the electric motor from the high torque created when the valve stem abruptly stops moving when the valve member reaches its operating position.
Abstract: A valve for controlling fluid flow is provided. The valve includes an actuating stem for controlling the flow of fluid through the valve, a valve member with a positioning formation and an opening for permitting fluid flow, a valve body portion, and at least one insert or compressor for retaining the valve member within the valve body portion. The valve body portion is comprised of a formable material—such as a metal—that is formed about the valve member in connection with an applied load. The valve body portion further includes a first open end with a first diameter; a second open end with a second diameter that is sufficiently large enough to permit insertion of the valve member; a stem opening for receiving the actuation stem; and an internal member-receiving portion for receiving the valve member in proximity with the stem opening.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an expansion valve of an air conditioning system for an automobile which does not employ a conventional method that opens and shuts in response to a motion of a pin and ball and can control a flow of a refrigerant and control linearly a flow rate of a refrigerant flow into an evaporator by using holes of a fixed hole plate fixed to a valve body and holes of a rotatable cam which is rotated by a motion of a pin moved upward and downward in response to a pressure difference between an outlet of an evaporator of an expansion valve and an interior of a pressure proof barrel. In the expansion valve of the present invention, it is possible to prevent a huntting phenomenon a reverse flow of the refrigerant into the evaporator and a noise caused by a ball, which have been generated in a conventional expansion valve, from creating.
Abstract: The present invention provides a device and method for locking a knife gate valve in a position, such as an open and/or closed position. The locking device has a pair of first posts disposed substantially parallel to the shaft. A swivel lock member is mounted to rotate substantially about the axis of the shaft and to reciprocate together with the shaft and the knife. The swivel lock member is selectively rotatable between an unlocked position at which the swivel lock member does not engage the first engageable portions and a locked position at which the swivel lock member engages both of the first engageable portions to prevent the swivel lock member from movement in at least one of the back and forth directions along the axis of the shaft.
Abstract: The shut-off device is intended for refillable gas cylinders. In order to be sure that only authorized persons can refill the cylinder, the filling device comprises a non-return valve element (16) which prevents filling and which can only be neutralized using a special magnet (18).
Abstract: There is provided a two-port valve in which a deviation of a degree of parallelization of a valve member and a valve seat can be corrected automatically, which has excellent airtightness, and in which assembly and replacement of the valve member are easy.
Abstract: A microelectromechanical (MEMS) device is provided that includes a microelectronic substrate and a thermally actuated microactuator and associated components disposed on the substrate and formed as a unitary structure from a single crystalline material, wherein the associated components are actuated by the microactuator upon thermal actuation thereof. For example, the MEMS device may be a valve. As such, the valve may include at least one valve plate that is controllably brought into engagement with at least one valve opening in the microelectronic substrate by selective actuation of the microactuator. While the MEMS device can include various microactuators, the microactuator advantageously includes a pair of spaced apart supports disposed on the substrate and at least one arched beam extending therebetween.

Abstract: A toilet room flush valve includes a body having an inlet and an outlet. There is a valve seat between the inlet and outlet and a valve assembly is movable within the body and positioned to close upon the seat to control flow from the inlet to the outlet. A cover is mounted upon the body and defines a pressure chamber with the valve assembly. There is a bypass connecting the inlet and pressure chamber whereby the pressure therein maintains the valve assembly upon the seat. A flex tube is fixed relative to the cover at one end thereof, with the other end of the flex tube being attached to the valve assembly remote from the pressure chamber. There is a passage in the flex tube opening to the body outlet at one end thereof. A vent passage connects the pressure chamber with the flex tube passage and a pilot controls flow through the vent passage.
