  • Patent number: 7177660
Abstract: A method of operating a radio communication system uses a random access channel to enable a secondary station to transmit a message to a primary station. The secondary station-transmits a preamble to the primary station. After successful receipt of the preamble the primary station transmits a control channel including power control information to instruct the secondary station to adjust the output power of its transmitter. This method ensures that the secondary station transmits at a sufficient power for the message to be received successfully by the primary station, while minimizing interference generated by the transmission.

  • Patent number: 7171206
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of and a system for transferring a communication session from one service area (101) to another (102), where each service area is associated with a transcoding proxy (111, 112) for transcoding communication sessions established in said service area to and from a format suitable for a mobile device (104). A gateway server (103) relays the communication session from a content server (105, 106, 107) via the appropriate transcoding proxy to the mobile device (104). When the mobile device (104) moves to the second service area (102), the second transcoding proxy (112) is contacted and session handling is transferred thereto. The transfer operation is transparent to the content server, so the session between mobile device (104) and content server (105, 106, 107) stays intact. The invention also relates to a mobile assistant server, a transcoding proxy and a mobile device for use in said system.

  • Patent number: 7167709
Abstract: An inter-frequency handover of a UE connection is performed in which the frequency of the uplink connection from the UE to a base station remains the same and the frequency of the downlink connection from the base station to the UE changes from a first downlink frequency to a second downlink frequency. A request for the handover is transmitted from the base station. The request containing information indicating the second downlink frequency and information indicating that the uplink frequency remains the same. In response to the request, the physical layer of the uplink connection is maintained while changing the downlink frequency from the first downlink frequency to the second downlink frequency.

  • Patent number: 7164890
Abstract: A network node (28) of a wireless telecommunication network (20) uses a first coding scheme (selected from plural possible coding schemes) for encoding of a point-to-multipoint (PTM) transmission carried to plural mobile stations (30) on a common downlink channel (32). The mobile stations (30) receiving the point-to-multipoint transmission on the common downlink channel (32) evaluate the link quality of the point-to-multipoint transmission. Feedback from the plural mobile stations (30) regarding the link quality of the point-to-multipoint transmission is provided to the network node (28) on a common uplink channel (36). A controller (48) at the network node (28) monitors information received on the common uplink channel for feedback regarding the link quality of the point-to-multipoint transmission.

  • Patent number: 7162253
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and apparatus for supporting geographical-based services in a communications system. In an embodiment of the invention, a terminal node (e.g., a wireless terminal) inserts geographical information into a header portion of an IPv6 datagram. The serving network utilizes the geographical information to support a geographical-based service. In another embodiment, a terminal node, which is located in a geographical area, receives service configuration information regarding service regions from a serving network and determines what services are supported in the geographical area. In an embodiment, header formats for the inserted geographical information in a propagated signal between a terminal node and a serving network are provided.

  • Patent number: 7162231
Abstract: An interactive method for electronic equipment is proposed. At least one interactive device is installed in the electronic equipment. Light intensity of an environment surrounding the electronic equipment and a user's operating condition are constantly detected by the interactive device. Back light intensity of a liquid crystal display and a keyboard base of the electronic equipment are adjusted according to the detected result. Moreover, the user's operating condition is determined as either being away from an operating position or being located in the operating position. If the user's location is altered from being away from the operating position to being in the operating position, the electronic equipment operates a greeting mechanism preset by the user. If the user's location is altered from being in the operating position to being away from the operating position, the electronic equipment is actuated to enter a stand-by mode after a predetermined period of time.
