  • Patent number: 4099289
Abstract: An elongated rod is provided including opposite ends and a pair of end members are removably rotatably mounted on the opposite ends of the rod. The opposite rod ends include first endwise outwardly facing abutment friction surfaces and the end members include second abutment friction surfaces opposing and frictionally engaged with the corresponding first friction surfaces. An elongated flexible tension member is anchored at its opposite ends to the end members and is spiraled about the rod intermediate the end members in a tensioned condition, whereby the tension member retains the end members on the opposite ends of the rod and the frictional engagement between the first and second friction surfaces prevents relative rotation of the end members relative to the rod and thereby maintains the tension member in a spiraled condition about the rod. A cleaning structure in the form of a rag, brush head, sponge, etc.

  • Patent number: 4094035
Abstract: Brooms made of synthetic fibers and having the necessary characteristics to be used for curling. Brooms of synthetic fibers wherein the essentially non-springiness of such fibers is compensated by inserting a resilient means within the bundle of fibers, such means being arranged to produce whipping as the usual curling broom without marring the ice. A flexible sheet is inserted between each side of the resilient means and the fibers. The fibers are loosely stitched or bound together to permit fiber flexing.

  • Patent number: 4094036
Abstract: A floor cleaning device includes a holding member which is of generally U-shaped cross-sectional configuration, including a bight interconnecting two arms, which together bound a recess for partially receiving a cleaning element so that a cleaning edge of the latter is in an exposed working position. The cleaning element has a plurality of passages, and a plurality of connecting members, such as bolts, is received in the passages, being connected to one of the arms and extending toward the other arm. One of the arms can be removably mounted on the bight. The connecting members may be connected either directly to the other arm, or to a mounting plate which is connectable to one of the arms of the holding member. The passages are uniformly distributed in the cleaning element, preferably in the central region thereof, so that the cleaning element can be mounted on the holding member in any position in which one of the cleaning edges thereof is in the working position.

  • Patent number: 4091489
Abstract: A device for cleaning the bristles of a brush and for pointing the bristles includes a reservoir for a cleaning liquid for the bristles. A top for the reservoir includes a guide aperture through which the brush can be inserted to enable the bristles to be inserted into the liquid in the reservoir. A point forming aperture for the bristles communicates with the guide aperture. The point forming aperture includes a pair of resilient, normally contacting lips that are formed as a slit in a sponge. The lips are urged apart as the brush is withdrawn from the reservoir and surround and contact the bristles to control the shape of the bristles. The sponge includes a foot that is inserted into the liquid to draw the liquid by capillary action to the lips so that they are maintained moist. To form a fine tip on the brush, the brush is rotated about its longitudinal axis while the bristles are drawn through the lips.

  • Patent number: 4091491
Abstract: A skin care device which fits over the hand of the user and which is used to clean and massage the skin when wet. It is used by rubbing the wet skin with the outer surface of the device when the user is in a bathtub of hot water or in a shower, and is always used prior to any contact by the skin with soap. The device is most effective when the proper materials are used for it's outer surface, and various raised surface preparations are found to produce improved results over a basic plain surface for the device. The raised surface serves to scrape away dead skin and dirt on the skin surface. In particular, a pre-determined pattern or random design sewn into the face of the device will substantially increase the effectiveness of the device. Alternatively, or in addition thereto, prearranged patches of a suitable material can be sewn on the face of the device so that only the strips need be of a particularly effective material, while the body of the device can be made of less expensive material.

  • Patent number: 4091493
Abstract: A shield to prevent splattering and dripping of paint for a paint roller, such a paint roller being conventional using a nap type of a roller which is rotatably mounted upon an offset handle. The shield comprises a center part to which is hingedly secured front and back sections. Elastic bands are employed on each end of the housing to hold together the front and back sections to the center part when in operation. Also, the elastic bands function to connect the shield to the paint roller structure. In the shielding position, the housing surrounds the paint roller to intercept the paint spray. When the roller is removed from the painted surface, the shield is free to pivot to catch droplets that would otherwise fall to the floor. An adjustable adaptor assembly is employed on each end of the housing to permit the shield to be employed with rollers of different nap thicknesses.

  • Patent number: 4089082
Abstract: The invention is an angularly adjustable paint roller assembly which attaches to the end of an extension pole and is characterized by an adjustable elbow brace which provides supplemental support to the adjusting pivot and establishes a position of maximum adjustment of on the order of 80.degree. for the roller which defines an optimal angle for certain applications of the roller assembly and another position is struck by forwardly thrusting the pivot point of the elbow brace, establishing a roller angle of about 45.degree. to the handle, so that in addition to being continually adjustable from 0.degree. to 80.degree. three distinct angles, including straight, may be quickly and accurately established.

  • Patent number: 4085475
Abstract: A scouring device in which a shaped scouring pad is held up into a rigid skirt portion of a pad holder, the skirt portion being generally concave and having downwardly extending projections, by a securing member which has a washer-like member at its base and a stem extending up to a flattened axial portion which goes through a slit in the holder and then is turned about 90.degree.. This, together with projections on the bottom of the pad holder, hold the pad in place. A rigid handle portion extends up above the skirt, and forms the perimeter of a cavity into which the flattened axial portion of the securing member projects. The outer wall of this handle portion is provided with ridges and grooves to give a better grip to one's hand, which can then place pressure almost directly on the underlying pad. Since the pad is forced into a somewhat concave position, the base of the securing member is lifted above the scouring surface and a better scouring surface is provided.

  • Patent number: 4085476
Abstract: Mops formed by laying down one or more cords of yarn in a continuous manner back and forth so that the cords extend generally transversely from one side to the other to form looped ends along the opposite side edges thereof. The cords are secured together in the desired relation by two or more rows of stitching extending lengthwise parallel to the side edges of cord material. Afterwards, the cord material may be cut to any desired length, and the ends of the length of cord material may either be connected together to form a closed loop of cord material, or the ends of the cord material may be left free as desired. A headband may be attached to the cord material anywhere along the length thereof if formed into a loop, or if the ends of the cord material are left free, such headband may be attached to the cord material intermediate the ends thereof or at one end thereof.

  • Patent number: 4083078
Abstract: A toothbrush which has a brush handle, a head on one end of the handle and a resilient, preferably multicellular pad fixed on the brush head. The pad has a concavity of a relatively large area across the pad in the area halfway between the ends of the pad on the upper surface, to form two protrusions on the opposite sides of the concavity. Each protrusion has at least one upside projection thereon substantially of the form of a triangular prism with the lateral edges extending in the lateral direction of the pad. The concavity lies preferably lower than the bottom of the troughs defined by the adjacent upside projections and can have a ridge or a plurality of ridges across the pad on the concavity. The pad has preferably an additional projection on each of the protrusions, which extends in the longitudinal direction of the pad and is of a form of a polygonal prism with the lateral edges extending in the lateral direction of the pad.
