  • Patent number: 7409847
Abstract: A ferrule securing assembly including a die set assembly for reducing a cylindrical ferrule. The die set assembly having a female die and a male die. The female die having a female die opening sequentially defined by a tapered section, a parallel section, and a concave seat. The male die having a concave die face with at least two lateral edges, a medial area, and a radius of curvature. The male die is receivable in the female die opening to move the ferrule through the tapered section so as to forge the ferrule into a substantially oval shape, to move the oval shaped ferrule through the parallel section, and to compress the oval shaped ferrule between the concave die face and the concave seat to forge the oval shaped ferrule into a substantially cylindrical shape.

  • Patent number: 7389670
Abstract: A stent crimping assembly is provided for crimping a stent from a first diameter to a reduced second diameter. The crimping assembly includes a plurality of movable wedges disposed about a rotational axis to form a wedge assembly. Each wedge includes a respective first side and a second side converging to form a tip portion. The tip portions are arranged to collectively form an iris about the rotational axis thereof. The iris defining a crimp aperture about which the movable wedges are disposed. Each wedge is associated with a stationary structure and an rotational actuation unit such that during rotation of the actuation unit about the rotational axis, the iris is caused to rotate about the rotational axis, relative the stationary structure, for inward movement of the wedges to decrease the size of the aperture and outward movement of the wedges to increase the size of the aperture.

  • Patent number: 7383709
Abstract: A system and process for performing a crimping operation by which a fitting is crimped to the end of a fluid conduit, and which automatically compensates for one or more variables that can lead to out-of-tolerance crimp diameters, particularly fitting spring-back and crimper deflection. The system and method use a device for inputting into the system a targeted crimp diameter for the fitting, and a crimper for crimping the fitting to the end of the fluid conduit. The crimper comprises a plurality of dies and an actuator for contracting the dies around the fitting to obtain the targeted crimp diameter for the fitting. The system and method further includes a unit for attaining the targeted crimp diameter by automatically compensating contraction of the dies for spring-back of the fitting during crimping and/or deflection of the crimper during crimping.

  • Patent number: 7370505
Abstract: A method of forming blind holes in a sheet material is provided. The method includes punching the sheet material to define a hollow projection through the material and shearing a layer of material from the sheet material to form a sealed end over an opening of the hollow projection to form the blind hole. Further processing of the sheet material may be required depending on the desired diameter of the blind hole. Such further processing includes enlarging the hollow projection to a desired diameter of the blind hole and shearing the layer of material with several tapered pins with progressively decreasing diameters. As the scaled end formed is likely to have an uneven surface, the sealed end may be flattened to render a more refined appearance.

  • Patent number: 7353682
Abstract: A pipe flaring apparatus for use in flaring the end of a pipe preferably comprises a housing, a three jaw clamping chuck (3) in the housing which clamps the pipe (11) as the chuck (3) is propelled along an inclined surface (10a) of a chuck clamp (10) also in the housing by the operation of an outer piston (4) slidable in the housing by mechanical or hydraulic means. An inner piston (5) also mounted in the housing and preferably within the outer piston propels the required flaring tool (6) inwardly compressing pipe end (11a) between the clamping chuck die (3a) and a pipe flaring tool forming face (6b) to form an appropriate flare (11b) on the pipe end (11a). When the inner and outer pistons (4, 5) are deactivated resilient members preferably in the form of helical compression springs (8a, 8b) disengage the flaring head tool (6) and the clamping chuck (3) from the flared pipe (11a). The pipe (11) can easily be withdrawn through the chuck (3) and chuck clamp (10).

  • Patent number: 7353683
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a surgical needle incorporates at least one pressing operation which, preferably, in conjunction with a trimming and/or etching process, ultimately forms the sharpened needle end. The grinding operation in the preferred process does not produce the primary sharpened edges of the needle, but, rather is incorporated, in one instance, to reduce excess needle material prior to the pressing operation. Consequently, the amount of flash material generated during pressing is substantially reduced. This feature desirably enhances the subsequent trimming and etching operations, and produces a needle which is extremely sharp, durable and exhibits an improved retention of sharpness over periods of prolonged use.
