Abstract: A magnetic head has a pair of magnetic core halves opposed to each other with a non-magnetic material posed therebetween to form a magnetic gap, which head includes a pair of magnetic core halves, a first ferromagnetic metal thin film and a second ferromagnetic metal thin film. The magnetic core halves are formed of ferromagnetic oxide such as Mn-Zn ferrite, and they have opposing surfaces opposed to each other to provide the magnetic gap. The first ferromagnetic metal thin film formed of Fe-Si-Al alloy is formed at least on one of the opposing surfaces. The second ferromagnetic metal thin film formed of Fe-Si-Al alloy having different constituent ratio from the first ferromagnetic metal thin film is formed between the magnetic gap and the first ferromagnetic metal thin film. The flux density of the second ferromagnetic metal thin film induced when a magnetic field of 1.2K oersted is applied exceeds 1000 gauss.

  • Patent number: 5153800
Abstract: A tape cassette arranged such that coarse surface areas are formed on guide surfaces used to guide a magnetic tape along the external surface of the front side wall portion formed inside of a cassette lid and that the coarse surface areas are gradually reduced toward the seam 19 of upper and lower parts. Thus, when the upper and lower parts are molded, the upper and lower parts can be removed from the metal molds with ease. Also, electrification can be prevented from occurring in the magnetic tape or in the upper and lower parts when the magnetic tape is transported along the guide surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5153794
Abstract: An assembly and method for securing head suspension members on shelf segments of metallic or ceramic actuator arms in a disk drive. The assembly comprises an actuator arm with a reduced thickness shelf segment, at least one head suspension member, a staking member having particular attributes and a staking plate also having particular attributes. The assembly is designed such that forcible expansion of the staking member takes place exclusively within the material of the staking plate member. The method is formulated such that the constituent elements of the assembly are aligned, placed under compression and staked together wherein an interference fit is formed between the staking member and staking plate member and no forcible pressure from the staking procedure is transmitted to the actuator arm. The assembly and method are ideally utilized in a multi-disk disk drive in which a plurality of head suspensions are secured to multiple arms of a single actuator in a single procedure.
