Abstract: A method includes obtaining test data for a joint, the test data being indicative of motion of the joint during joint testing implemented by a robotic testing apparatus applied to the joint to impart force oriented in a first degree of freedom for the joint, generating first data indicative of movement of the joint in the first degree of freedom based on the test data, generating second data indicative of concomitant movement of the joint in a second degree of freedom for the joint based on the test data, the concomitant movement arising from the imparted force, and determining a condition of the joint based on an analysis of the first data and the second data.

Abstract: A sensor system is for determining a breathing type of a subject. It has first and second electromagnetic radiation (e.g. optical) sensors, for example PPG sensors. The sensors are for application to the skin of the subject at different sensor locations. The signals from the first and second sensors are analyzed to determine if there is predominantly a first breathing type (e.g. chest breathing) or predominantly a second breathing type (e.g. belly breathing), or a mixture of the first and second breathing types.

Abstract: A connection structure includes a multi-thread coil formed by winding first metal element wires formed of a first metal and second metal element wires formed of a second metal arranged between a first metal body including the first metal and a second metal body including the second metal. The first metal body is connected to the first metal element wires of the multi-thread coil, and the second metal body is connected to the second metal element wires of the multi-thread coil. The connection structure imparts improved flexibility to the connection between the first and second metal bodies, and an appropriate connection can be provided even when the first and second metal bodies are made of dissimilar metals.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a system for detecting tremors includes a contactless tremor detector, the detector including an oscillator circuit having a sensing coil, an oscillator configured to generate alternating electromagnetic fields, and a frequency counter configured to sense the resonant frequency of the oscillator circuit as the resonant frequency changes in response to movement of a body part of an individual adjacent to the sensing coil, wherein the system is configured to determine a frequency of movement of the body part from the sensed resonant frequency for the purpose of determining if the individual is experiencing tremors.

Abstract: A method is provided for calibrating a surgical biopsy system. The biopsy system includes a biopsy instrument and control unit. The biopsy instrument includes a piercer, rotatable cutter, and a port for receiving tissue samples. The method comprises the steps of translating the cutter distally until the translation of the cutter is stopped at an extended position and recording the extended position. The cutter is then translated from the extended position proximally until the translation of the cutter is stopped at a retracted position proximal to the extended position. The retracted position is recorded. The method further comprises the step of rotating the cutter to a rotation speed while the cutter is located at the retracted position and, if determined that the rotation speed is within a predetermined rotation speed range, a feedback signal is provided on the display allowing the operator to progress to the next procedural step.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining intracranial pressure includes a contact lens; a camera for making a plurality of images of at least one eye of a subject; one or more force transducers for controllably applying a force to the eye via the contact lens; a support system for supporting the camera, the contact lens and the one or more force transducers against the eye; and a computing device for controlling the force applied to the eye by the force transducers and stabilizing the force by negative feedback.
Abstract: The invention relates to an automatic device for performing skin biopsies, comprising a casing (2) housing a rod (3) on the distal end (3a) of which there is a circular blade (4), and means for causing simultaneous rotation and longitudinal advancement of the rod (3) from a first retracted position wherein the blade (4) of the rod (3) does not project via the distal end (2a) of the casing (2), to a second extended position wherein the blade (4) of the rod (3) projects via the distal end (2a) of the casing, followed by simultaneous rotation and longitudinal retraction of said rod (3) from said second extended position to said first retracted position.
