    Abstract: A method and a system for the compensation of Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN) in digital images have been achieved. The FPN compensation is based on processing done during the production of said images. The fixed pattern noise is here defined as the fixed pattern seen in the individual pixel offsets. The fixed pattern noise is uncorrelated noise but it has a statistical distribution that can be scaled to fit all images. The general idea is to measure the distribution for each individual camera, compress it, and save it in the module. For each image that is then taken with the module the noise pattern can be retrieved and rescaled to fit the image. Covered pixels are employed to normalize the FPN data to the current frame. In order to minimize memory requirements a compression scheme has to be used. A method combining a quantization step with a non-lossy compression is used. The black level is corrected for as part of the operation.

A storage device (30) stores the first and second images, and a processor (32) accesses the storage device to generate a composite image from the first and second images. For use when the airfoil is rotating, the system may also include a sensor (40) for generating a position signal (41) responsive to a detected angular position of an airfoil. The system may further include a trigger device (42), responsive to the position signal, for triggering the camera to acquire an image when the airfoil is proximate the camera.

Each of the first and second polarizers has an identically configured plurality of segments. Each segment allows transmission of a different polarization than other segments and is sized to completely cover the fields of view of both the PIN photodiode detector and the staring imaging infrared focal plane array. First and second actuators are connected to the first and second polarizers, respectively, to synchronously and simultaneously step identical and corresponding segments in a plurality of discrete steps within the fields of view in response to incoming temporal and spatial laser returns.

    Abstract: A non-mechanical fluid level sensor based on light communication channel (LCC) technology. In a preferred embodiment, one end of the LCC is connected to a signal source while another end is connected to a sensor. The LCC is dipped in a fluid container and a signal propagates and undergoes internal reflection through the LCC towards one of its ends which is connected to the sensor. The fluid level is detected preferably by measuring the intensity of the signal reflected with the LCC that reaches a sensor. Different fluid levels preferably correspond to linearly varying detected signal intensities. A main LCC bus may communicate remotely with the sensor without wiring or other electrical connectors.
