Abstract: A computing system is disclosed including a new optical parametric logic gate. The parametric logic gate includes an optical resonant cavity having nonlinear optical characteristics, such that the cavity will generate a subharmonic output signal having a frequency f when supplied with a pump frequency of 2f. The subharmonic output signal may have one of two possible phases which differ by .pi. radians to one another, and correspond to binary 1 and 0 respectively. A bias signal having a frequency f is supplied to the resonant cavity. Optical input signals are summed with the bias signal to produce a resultant seed input signal having one of the two phases. The phase of the seed input signal is imparted to the phase of the output subharmonic. The type of logical operation which the parametron performs can be controlled by adjusting the power of the bias signal. The subject disclosure also includes a description of computing systems having various pump arrangements.
Abstract: A transfer compensation circuit for use in a standby A-C power system which compensates for the transient in system output voltage which occurs when the system transfers from the conventional A-C input voltage to the standby power system. The compensation is dependent on the total load on the system at the instant of transfer. The total load includes both the external load connected to the system load and the battery in the standby supply if the system normally functions to provide charging current to that battery.
Abstract: A three-phase circuit, either load impedances or transformer windings for feeding such load impedances, are connected in a delta circuit configuration by a first group of controllable semiconductor elements and in a star circuit configuration by a second group of such elements. All elements are fired, but at different phase angles for operatively establishing a star, a delta, or a mixed type of connection.
Abstract: A power generating and distribution system employs primary and emergency back-up standby generators with the primary generator normally powering a conversion supply from which critical supplies are directly connected to a user system and non-critical supplies are selectively connected to the user system through electronic switching devices. The switching means are activated by a monitor control which compares a sample of the primary generator voltage level with a reference level of the generator output powering the conversion supply and generates a control signal to close the electronic switching devices only when the monitor sample exceeds the monitor reference.
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically composing a music piece is provided by comprising a memory preliminarily storing plural kinds of pitch data. From this memory, at-random extraction is made of those pitch data agreeing with predetermined music conditions, and they are timewisely successively delivered out to be imparted durations, respectively, to form a composition data consisting of plural sets of pitch data and duration data amounting two to four measures to make a music piece. This composition data may be used for generation of music sounds, and/or display of music score image on a screen of a CRT device, and/or printing-out of a score by a printer, to be utilized in the sound-dictation training and/or performance exercise in providing, for example, musical education.
Abstract: A recording medium in which a substrate, an inorganic material layer adapted to absorb light and generate heat, a first organic material layer made of an organic matter containing metal, and a second organic material layer adapted to be deformed or removed by heat are successively stacked. A metal salt of an organic acid, or organic metal compound etc. are employed for the first organic material layer. Owing to the presence of this layer, the recording medium exhibits a stability against changes in the ambient temperature.
Abstract: An electronic latching circuit is described for incorporation into an electronic equipment which includes a battery, a load and a power supply. During shipment or storage of the equipment, the electronic latching circuit electrically isolates the battery from the load. The first time that the equipment is put into operation and turned on after shipment or storage, the electronic latching circuit automatically permanently connects the battery to the load. Once connected to the load the battery remains connected to the load, even when the equipment has a power failure, the power supply fails or the equipment is turned off.
Abstract: In a process of image recording by scanning a recording material with a light beam modulated by an image signal, the density of the recorded image is adjusted by controlling the light intensity during a predetermined interval using a clock pulse for picture elements, recording an image for a predetermined time within the predetermined interval, and changing the predetermined recording time for the entire image or only portions thereof. The recording time is changed in a very simple manner, for example, by operating a variable resistor.

Abstract: A plurality of thermal head assemblies can be arranged around a single backing roller to minimize the distance between recording stations. Synchronization marks recorded on the paper at a first station can be detected between recording stations to control the timing of image recording at the later stations.
Abstract: A back-up electrical power supply module provides a back-up supply for a plug-in volatile electrical device such as a memory module. The memory module has a dual-in-line pins which engage socket openings of a standard dual-in-line circuit board connector. The back-up supply module is mounted on top of the memory module and has dual-in-line pins which contact corresponding ones of the pins of the memory module and corresponding socket openings. In this way the back-up supply module and the memory module can be unplugged as a unit and when unplugged, the back-up supply will maintain the contents of the volatile memory module intact.
