  • Patent number: 5105188
Abstract: A method is provided for initiating a configuration after the interruption of at least two ring-shaped networks arranged in parallel. After the appearance of malfunctions in the ring lines and ring switching matrix devices in at least two-of-n ring-shaped networks, a configuring in the sense of forming those ring network portions that are still intact into a new ring-shaped network is initiated. Based on the knowledge of the position of the subscriber equipment (interpretation of the address table information) and on the transmission of interrupt information given ring interruptions, the configuring or, respectively, "loop back" connecting is initiated after the identification of the reception and transmission of interrupt information or the identification of the transmission of interrupt information dependent on the position of the appertaining subscriber equipment.

  • Patent number: 5101199
Abstract: When an interrupt request to a control unit occurs, the control unit polls a plurality of interrupt request terminal interfaces to locate which of the interrupt request terminal interfaces has generated the interrupt request. The control unit polls the plurality of interrupt request terminal interfaces in groups of several interrupt terminal interfaces to locate a group to which the interrupt request terminal interface has generated the interrupt request belongs, and polls only the respective interrupt requests terminal interfaces belonging to the located group to thereby locate the generated source of the interrupt request. Each interrupt request terminal interface generates an interrupt request as vector data indicative of contents directly corresponding to each interrupt condition.

  • Patent number: 5089813
Abstract: A paging receiver receives a message signal having an address field and a data field. The message has at least one address within the address field and a plurality of packets in the data field. The data packets contain a predetermined amount of information. A method for conserving power during reception of a message signal having an address field comprising a number of addresses involves entering the power conserving mode of operation after attempting to correlate a predetermined number of addresses with the paging receiver's address, where the predetermined number is less than the number of addresses in the address field. In addition, message information may be included within a plurality of packets by several methods including placing a corresponding plurality of addresses in the address field, each address indicating the occurrence of message information, or by indicating in one packet that information follows in a subsequent packet.

  • Patent number: 5077552
Abstract: A method and apparatus for encoding data to be transmitted through a RS-422 standard serial interface such that the encoded data approximates one of the Control-L, Control-S wired or Control-S infrared protocols used in some audio and video equipment. Each bit of a data byte to be transmitted to the audio/video equipment is converted into one or more expansion bytes and transmitted at a baud rate such that the encoded bits approximate the shape and size of a bit in the data format of the selected protocol. In the case of Control-L protocol, the receiving port of the RS-422 is coupled directly to the serial interface port of the controlled device while the transmitting port is coupled through a diode to the serial interface port of the controlled device. For Control-S wired protocol, the transmit port of the RS-422 is coupled by an uninterrupted wire to the serial interface port of the controlled device.

  • Patent number: 5072217
Abstract: In a one-sided crosspoint switch, multiple controllers are used instead of a single controller for control of the switching matrix. The controllers operate in parallel, thereby handling requests for connections and disconnections from ports at a higher speed than with a single controller. In the event of a controller failure, the remaining controllers also take over the control function of the failed controller, thereby providing improved reliability.

  • Patent number: 5070329
Abstract: An on-site communication system includes a system for identifying communication receivers including acknowledge back capability and operating within the on-site communication system, and for controlling the delivery of messages to the communication receivers. The identification system operates on the same frequency as the on-site communication system, and includes an RF shielded enclosure for momentarily shielding the communication receivers from messsages transmitted on the on-site communication system. The RF shielded enclosure provides interference free identification of the communication receivers as the communication receivers pass through the enclosure, and enables the determination of those communication receivers which are operating within the coverage area of the on-site communication system, and those communication receivers which have left the coverage area of the on-site communication system.

  • Patent number: 5051741
Abstract: A locating system and method in which a network of communication stations are spread over a surveillance area. Each moveable element is provided with a transponder having an associated identification code. A paging signal sent out over the surveillance area is picked up by the transponders and the one with the identification code provided in the page responds. The response is made at a frequency different from the page. The response is picked up by the nearest communication stations. A master station communicates with the communication stations at a frequency different from that used by the paging signal or the transponder. The master station which interrogates all the communication stations locates the paged transponder to within a sector bordered by the communication stations that received the response from the transponder. The communication stations can be subdivided into three or more interspersed arrays.

  • Patent number: 5049872
Abstract: A slave station at an end location of a transmission route is responsive to a polling signal issued from a master station such that if there exist data to be sent to the master station, the slave station transmits a code with a "busy" token and specifying the data to a slave station at the next upper location; and if there do not exist data to be sent to the master station, the slave station transmits a "free" token to the slave station at the next upper location. When the slave station at the upper location receives the "busy" token from the station at the lower location, the slave station at the upper location relays the entire codes receives.

  • Patent number: 5049877
Abstract: A broadband switching matrix having M.times.N crosspoint switches is arranged into a selected number of groups of vertically cascaded stages in which adjacent groups are interconnected with expansion stages. An input signal switched from row to column in a particular group propagates through the remaining stages in that group and then propagates successively through the expansion stages in each following group before reaching an output port. In another array configuration, a set of N multiplexers arranged in parallel each receive N input signals and provide a single output signal at a respective output port. The multiplexers are constructed from 2:1 selector elements which are arranged in a vertical tree configuration having log.sub.2 N cascaded stages. Each multiplexer has the same number of stages and hence selector elements. Both broadband switching arrays are designed so that each switch drives only one other switch in the array, thereby minimizing capacitive loading and maximizing propagation speed.
