  • Patent number: 6917940
Abstract: An OLAP-based method and system for profiling customer behavior that can be utilized to detect telecommunication fraud. First, call records are received. Next, a calling profile cube (e.g., a multi-customer profile cube) is generated based on the call records. A volume-based calling pattern cube (e.g., a calling pattern cube for each individual customer) is then generated based on the multi-customer profile cube. The volume-based calling pattern cube is then compared with known fraudulent volume-based calling patterns. If the similarities generated by the comparison reaches or exceeds a predetermined threshold, then the particular caller with the calling pattern being analyzed is considered suspicious. In this manner, suspicious calling activity can be detected, and appropriate remedial actions, such as further investigation or the cancellation of telephone services, can be taken.

  • Patent number: 6625596
Abstract: Data storage and retrieval methods are described in which data is stored in records within a docubase, and desired records are identified and/or selected by searching index files which map search criteria into appropriate records. Each index file includes a header with header entries and a body with body entries. Each header entry comprises a header-to-body pointer which points to a location in the body of the same index file which is the starting point of the body entries related to the header-to-body pointer pointing thereto. The body entries in turn comprise body-to-record-pointers which point to the records within the docubase satisfying the search criteria. Alternatively, the body entries may comprise body-to-body pointers which point to body entries in a second index file, which in turn point to the records within the docubase satisfying the search criteria. The records are stored in HTML format.

  • Patent number: 5829001
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved method and apparatus for performing database updates in a distributed system having an originating database stored in a server and a partial or complete copy of the database stored in a client. In one embodiment, a database update system includes a server having a database, a network, and a client having a storage and software for accessing the database over the network. The client maintains the last update time of each table stored in its storage. The server maintains the modification time as an integral field of each record in the database. The modification time of a record indicates the last time at which the record was modified in the database. The client software requests copies of all records of a table stored in the client's storage that have a modification time that is later than the last update time of the table. In another embodiment, the server also maintains a modification table that includes a record for each table in the database.
