  • Patent number: 7258676
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to compression devices and, more particularly to a method using air flow to close the exhaust valve in each sleeve, allows air to fill the sleeve to a pretuned pressure, and finally deflating the sleeve by letting the air flow through the outlet valve. This creates a pressure gradient and a pneumatic cycle means that facilitates the massaging movement on the limb towards direction of the heart. The magnetic force in valves is uniquely adapted for controlling low-pressure compression. A magnetically adjustable valve is adapted for use in a compression device to control and regulate low to very low pressures and comprising of a movable magnetic part and a metal part, defining an air gap there between.

  • Patent number: 7207993
Abstract: A method and apparatus for repairing the femur. A connector is provided having a claw-like member to engage with the greater trochanter. Along the body of the connector are a plurality of cable apertures and cable screws to receive and engage with cables that loop around the femur. Along the inferior end of the connector are bone screw slots and bone screws engaging the connector with the femur. The bone screws provide added support to the re-attached greater trochanter and provide support for periprosthetic fractures. The connector may be used to re-attach the greater trochanter by impacting a connector onto the greater trochanter, positioning the greater trochanter onto the femur, passing cables around the femur and through the connector, tensioning the cables to provide engagement between the greater trochanter and the femur, and attaching the connector to the femur using at least one bone screw.

  • Patent number: 7201751
Abstract: A supplemental spine fixation device and method is used in association with a primary spine fixation device. The supplemental spine fixation device includes a guide and spacer for distracting apart adjacent spinous processes and the device has hook members which hook about the first and second spinous processes. With the spinous processes distracted and the hook members about the spinous processes, the hook members can be rigidly secured to a hub in order to rigidly affix the spinous processes about the spacer. The rigidity between the spinous processes assures that the vertebral bodies will be held rigidly in place in order to promote bone growth and fusion. Further additional freedom of movement between the spacer and hub is accomplished with the spacer being pivotably mounted relative to the hub. The hooks have a tissue distracting lead-in guide for allowing the hooks to be easily urged between spinous processes.

  • Patent number: 7137395
Abstract: A balloon catheter device that provides radial delivery of visible or near-infrared radiation. The radial delivery of visible or near-infrared radiation to the pulmonary vein is particularly effective in creating transmural, continuous, and circumferential lesions in the pulmonary vein. Creation of these lesions electrically isolates the pulmonary veins from the left atrium of the heart and, thus is a particularly suitable method for the treatment of atrial fibrillation.

  • Patent number: 7137390
Abstract: A filter assembly for use in sidestream gas sampling assembly. The filter assembly of the present invention includes a hydrophilic liner lining the inner perimeter of a housing for wicking moisture from the gases to be monitored prior to the gases reaching a sensing mechanism. The filter further includes a hydrophobic member positioned downstream of the hydrophilic liner. The hydrophobic disk acts as a second line of defense against moisture reaching the sensing mechanism. In one embodiment, the filter further include an absorbent layer positioned between the cylindrical housing and the hydrophilic layer to aid in wicking moisture from the gas stream. In a further embodiment, the hydrophobic disk is eliminated and the hydrophilic member is situated such that gas entering the filter assembly must pass through at least a portion the hydrophilic member.

  • Patent number: 7093594
Abstract: A dosing device comprising a dispenser (26) for dispensing a dose material and a dose actuation mechanism (44) is provided. The dose actuation mechanism (44) comprises a number of integrally hinged links (52, 54, 55) which are connected to each other at hinging points. A deflectable tongue (157), moveable in response to air flow from inhalation by a patient is attached to a first link (52), to move the first link in response to air flow, movement of the first link being transferred to a second link (54) to cause actuation of the dispenser. The first link rests at an over center, or stable, position prior to operation, and moves under center during operation of the device to trigger movement of the second link. The dose actuation mechanism is a one-piece moulding from plastics material.

  • Patent number: 7081101
Abstract: A shoulder complex and upper arm injury reduction system having a torso fitting part, an upper arm wrap part, and at least one movement control strap constructed of non-stretchable material. The movement control straps are strategically anchored on the system to control posterior, anterior, and multidirectional movement of the upper arm wrap part relative to the torso fitting part. The straps are length adjustable to control the amount of movement of the upper arm wrap part relative to the torso fitting part, and prevent separation of the upper arm wrap part from the torso fitting part beyond the strap length. The system includes a control strap that extends from the shoulder capping region to a strap mounting location below or above the shoulder capping region. The strap is length adjustable to allow tension to be placed on the strap and to produce traction between the shoulder strapping region and the strap mounting location.

  • Patent number: 7069932
Abstract: A patient interface having a forehead support adjustably. The forehead support assembly includes a support arm that is adjustably mounted to the mask shell, thereby allowing the adjustment of the distance between the forehead support bracket and the mask shell in order to adjust for patient's of different sizes. A forehead support bracket is pivotally connected to the support arm. The pivoting forehead support bracket is self-aligning to allow the forehead pad to remain parallel to the patient's forehead at all times, thus enhancing comfort and stability. The forehead support bracket is removable from the support arm, allowing the headgear (with support bracket attached) to be donned separately from the mask and support arm. The forehead support bracket in one embodiment has a forehead pad formed from the headgear itself.
