  • Patent number: 4545167
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for attaching facing pieces to building structures in predetermined horizontal row and vertical tier arrangements. This method and apparatus is particularly well-suited for mounting removable marble face stones to crypt vaults in mausoleums. Anchor blocks are set in the structure in predetermined vertical and horizontal alignment positions and mounting bolts upon which the facing pieces hang are inserted into the anchor blocks. The mounting bolts are characterized by their ability to produce an eccentric motion which is used to cam the facing piece horizontally or vertically and thereby providing means for making small adjustments necessitated by the fact that the building structure and/or the face pieces have slightly irregular dimensions. Shims are used to make adjustments in the third dimension.

  • Patent number: 4545161
Abstract: A glazed curtain wall construction for a commercial building is composed of a multiplicity of glass window units and glass panel units which are supported in stacked relationship by a series of vertical columns or mullions. Each unit is rectangular in configuration being composed of a header, a sill and a pair of jambs that connect the header and sill together. The sill of each unit is provided with a downwardly projecting flange which is received within a groove in the header of the next lower unit and the header is provided with an inwardly extending flange that defines a downwardly facing recess which is supported on dumbbells attached to the side surfaces of adjacent mullions. In addition, one jamb of each unit is formed with a vertical flange which is received within a groove in the opposite jamb of the next adjacent unit.

  • Patent number: 4543765
Abstract: A unitized floor panel is formed having at least one row comprising a plurality of unattached wooden tiles assembled in generally abutting relation. A layer of pressure sensitive adhesive covers at least a portion of the upper surface of the tiles and is in turn covered by a flexible and removeable support and protective sheet which covers the adhesive and tiles. The adhesive bond formed between the sheet and the adhesive is stronger than the bond formed between the adhesive and the tile so that the sheet and adhesive can be easily stripped from each panel when desired. The wooden tiles can either be finished or unfinished and can be formed from acrylic wood tiles arranged in parquet fashion. The cover sheet is preferably formed from either transparent plastic film or paper having a printed design corresponding to the design and arrangement of the tiles onto which it is positioned. The sheet can include perforations to control cure rate of the sub-flooring adhesive onto which the panels are placed.

  • Patent number: 4541209
Abstract: This invention provides a convenient apparatus and method for mounting equipment in an underground vault to provide convenient access to the equipment whenever such access is necessary. The vault mount includes a frame having one end thereof permanently pivotally mounted to the frame releasably attached to a second wall of the vault. Suitable springs are mounted between the first wall of the vault and the frame to urge the frame to pivot about the mounting to the first wall. When the second end of the frame is released from its wall mount, the frame and the apparatus mounted thereon pivots from a generally horizontal position in the vault to a generally vertical position with the equipment mounted on the frame extending out of the vault.

  • Patent number: 4541210
Abstract: A cover and erection method for a tank, sedimentation device or building cover constructed over or within a generally continuous upstanding circular side wall (30), made up of a series of concentric spaced thrust rings (11, 12, 21) having multiple short curved radial beams (14, 19) bridging the annuli between the rings and cover plates (17, 21) extending across the spaces between adjacent ones of the beams between each of the spaced rings. Erection may be from the wall inwardly or from the center to the wall. In either event an intermediate thrust ring is temporarily supported at an elevation above and within the side wall and the beams set across the rings in relatively short radial spans prior to welding of beams and plates to the respective rings. By this technique, small lightweight beams can be utilized for building large-diameter covers or domes with each rise span being of relatively small length.

  • Patent number: 4530189
Abstract: A fire resistant, elevator hatchway door entrance for wall openings up to and including 10 feet in height, including first and second side jambs and a head jamb. Each side jamb includes a pair of upstanding, oppositely facing, metallic channel members dimensioned and coupled together to define both a structural box beam and a pocket for receiving the wall which defines the opening. The bight and one leg portion of one channel member define the jamb depth and reveal, respectively, of the side jamb, and the bight of the other channel member receives and shields an asociated J-strut at the wall-entrance interface. The remaining leg portion of the one channel member may cooperate with a member disposed on the trailing edge of the associated door panel to define a flame shield and a mechanical limit for preventing undue separation of the door panel from the side jamb.
