  • Patent number: 4887490
Abstract: An improved system (10 and 100) is disclosed in which a plurality of actuation systems (12 and 14) are activated in a timed sequence by a single prime mover (16). The prime mover is coupled to a transmission (18) which drives the first and second actuation systems for moving the first and second actuation systems between the first and second positions and back to the first position. A timer (34) is provided for controlling the timing of activation systems between the first and second positions and back to the first position. • Patent number: 4885956
Abstract: A power transmission with differential action employs hydraulic screw pumps for stepless variable coupling between the drive shaft and a driven shaft, axle or axles. The pump screws are driven by gears respectively engaging oppositely facing bevel tooth sets on a master gear. Centrifugal forces urge choke sleeves slidable on the screw pump housings to close the ports progressively, ultimately approximating drive conditions at a predetermined speed of the driven shaft, axle or axles.

  • Patent number: 4882948
Abstract: A nutating cone transmission is characterized by a flexible speed control ring for controlling the rotational speed of the cone about its axis. The ring is mounted adjacent to the cone with a portion thereof in contact with and depressed by the surface of the cone. A displacement mechanism laterally displaces the ring relative to the cone while preventing rotational movement of the ring and slippage between the ring and the cone. The position of the ring relative to the diameter of the cone controls the rotational speed of the cone which is delivered to an output. The flexible speed control ring increases the reliability and efficiency of the transmission by eliminating slippage between the ring and damage to the cone through wear.

  • Patent number: 4881428
Abstract: A vehicle engine throttle valve control apparatus whereby the actuation position of an accelerator pedal, the degree of opening of the throttle valve, and the position of the vehicle gear shift are detected. One of a plurality of different throttle valve target opening degree characteristics is then selected which corresponds to the current gear shift position, and the selected characteristic is used to set a target degree of opening for the throttle valve in accordance with the accelerator pedal position. The throttle valve is driven so as to make the actual degree of throttle opening become equal to the target value. Appropriate throttle control is thereby automatically performed each time a gear shift operation is executed, without intervention by the vehicle driver.

  • Patent number: 4881419
Abstract: A fluid-powered rotary actuated support for a platform, having a body with a vertical axial orientation during use. A drive member has a drive shaft extending coaxially within the body and a flange attached to an end portion of the shaft toward an upper body end. The shaft and flange are formed as an integral unit free of connection joints therebetween. The flange projects radially outward from the shaft beyond an inner body surface and is rotatable relative to the body through a horizontal plane. A first ball race is formed in the flange and a second ball race is formed in the body with balls disposed therebetween. Linear-to-rotary transmission means disposed within the body are operable for providing rotational movement between the drive member and body. The body utilizes a stationary seal to facilitate seal placement and reduce the overall length of the body.

  • Patent number: 4880094
Abstract: A system for controlling an electromagnetic clutch for a motor vehicle at transient state of driving condition of the motor vehicle. An actual engagement ratio is obtained in dependence on speeds of a drive member land a driven member of the clutch. A desired engagement ratio of the clutch is obtained in accordance with the speeds of the drive member and driven member. Clutch current is controlled so as to converge the actual engagement ratio on the desired engagement ratio. The transition of the change of the actual engagement ratio is observed and a correction signal is generated when the actual engagement ratio does not change in a converging direction. The clutch current is corrected by the correction signal.

  • Patent number: 4878392
Abstract: A gear drive for a shuttleless loom is equipped with a coupling device or clutch between an input first gear group (G1) and an output second gear group (G2). The coupling or clutch provides a form-locking connection between the two gear groups which convert a continuous rotational movement on the input side into a back-and-forth movement on the output side to drive, for example, a gripper rod for the insertion of the weft thread into the loom shed. The coupling device or clutch can be rapidly operated by an electromagnet or by an electric motor and greatly facilitates performing the operations that are, for example, necessary for repairing a broken weft thread.

  • Patent number: 4877117
Abstract: A rotational control apparatus in the preferred form of a fan clutch is disclosed including a friction disc portion slidably mounted and rotationally related by splines on a hub in turn rotatably mounted on a fixed shaft. The splines are formed on a radially outermost portion of the hub. A washer abuts with a shoulder formed in the hub at the intersection of a radially reduced portion with the radially outermost portion and with a retainer on the free end of the radially reduced portion sandwiches a spring in a compressed condition on the reduced portion. In an assembled relation, the friction disc portion abuts with the washer such that the spring biases the friction disc portion. The friction disc portion may be slid from the hub without removal of the hub from the shaft and with the spring retained on the hub by the washer. Both sides of the friction disc portion taper together such that the thickness therebetween decreases with the radial spacing from the rotational axis.

  • Patent number: 4876907
Abstract: The invention relates to a motor vehicle gearbox with two concentrically mounted input shafts (6,9), each driving an individual countershaft (12,15). The countershafts have gear wheels (16,18,17,19,41) in engagement with gear wheels (21,22,40) on an output shaft. The shafts are arranged in a V-configuration and one countershaft has a disengageable gear wheel (23) in engagement with a gear wheel (11) on the second countershaft to reverse the rotational direction of the latter for driving in reverse. One countershaft (12) has a central synchronizing device (30), by means of which the countershaft, which is drivingly coupled to the temporarily non-driven input shaft, can be accelerated up to a rotational speed determined by the gear speed selected.

  • Patent number: RE33126
Abstract: A CVT combined with a gearshift mechanism to permit shifting of power flow under conditions of zero load and synchronous speed. The CVT can adjust the output speed within a gear ratio without resetting of the CVT ratio during a shift. The full speed range of the CVT is matched by two planetary drivetrains having normal and inverted characteristics and driven by two shifting gearboxes. Input power is divided into three paths to drive a central CVT and the two shifting gearboxes. The output of one of the gear-boxes is clutched to the normal input of a compound planetary drivetrain and the output of the other gearbox is clutched to the inverted input of the compound planetary. The CVT is coupled to the sun gear input of the compound planetary with the output of the compound planetary providing the output of the gear-assisted CVT. Operation occurs with either of the two clutches engaged to a respective input but not both, so that each gearbox may be shifted when its output is disengaged.
