  • Patent number: 4150451
Abstract: An easily assembled and disassembled die holder assembly of the wedge locking type is provided which tightly clamps a punch die in its pocket. A die-engaging wedge of the assembly has an angular protrusion bearing on a wall of a corresponding groove in a side of the die to clamp it downwardly in the die pocket upon take-up of a threaded fastener. A locking wedge acted on by the fastener bears on the die wedge, relative angles of the latter and the protrusion causing the protrusion to hold the die rigidly. Backing off the fastener permits a resilient member to free the die from the protrusion of the die-engaging wedge.

  • Patent number: 4141389
Abstract: A wire-fastening mechanism has a wire shaping and guiding device and a pivoted hook-shaped needle which co-operate together to fasten a wire to a connector lug by forming a cross loop of wire through a triangular formation of apertures in the lug. The wire shaping and guiding device has two opposed members between which the lug is inserted. Wire guiding grooves are provided in the opposed members to define one and a half turns of a helical channel around which wire is pushed to thread the aperture lugs as the wire passes between wire guiding grooves of the opposed members. The hook-shaped needle receives the leading end of the wire after it has passed through the triangular formation of apertures. Pivoting of the needle draws the leading wire end beneath a run of the wire between two of the apertures thereby to form a cross loop of wire.

  • Patent number: 4136416
Abstract: A vibration resistant threaded fastener such as a set screw and method of forming the fastener wherein the load bearing flank of the thread surface of the screw is provided with a series of serrations. Each serration is formed with an inclined ramp terminating in a buttress forming a skewed angle with the radius of the fastener. The ramp surface is inclined in the direction of tightening the fastener so that the buttress presents a surface tending to act against rotation of the fastener to preclude its loosening. In forming the vibration resistant fastener a pair of flat thread roll dies may be used. Each die is provided with a mating segment near the end of the effective thread forming portion of the die having a configuration designed to impart the ramp and buttress serrations on the load bearing flank of the fastener rolled between the dies.

  • Patent number: 4133066
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a self-locking spring nut is disclosed herein. In this method, a spring nut is tapped in its stretched or compressed condition, where a lead or pitch of the spring nut of a helical form is increased or decreased, say 0.5 to 6%. Accordingly, when a bolt is inserted into the spring nut thus prepared, then threads on the bolt undergo a compressive or tensile stress by the spring nut.As a result, the spring nut may be locked on a bolt in any position. This method utilizes an elasticity of the spring nut to be locked on the bolt, rather than interference between the female and the male threads on the nut and bolt, respectively, for instance, interference caused by deforming the configuration of threads or changing a pitch of a male thread relative to that of a female thread. Accordingly, the self-locking nut of the invention may be repeatedly used, without being damaged.
