  • Patent number: 7159437
Abstract: A hot forming tool is heated with multiple electrical resistance cartridge heaters. The heaters are located in the body of the tool so as to maintain the entire forming surface within a predetermined temperature range. Numerical thermal and optimization analyses direct the placement of the heaters so that when each heating element is simultaneously powered on for an identical fraction of the time, an acceptable temperature distribution will be produced within the tool at the tool operating temperature.

  • Patent number: 7159433
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for cooling and/or lubricating rollers, in particular the working rollers (2, 3) on a rolling stand and a rolled strip (1), rolled between the above rollers and transported onwards, using water in the form of spray jets (4, 5) as cooling medium and oil, oil/water mix, oil/water mix, oil/air/water mix or grease mixtures as lubricant. In order to improve the lubricating and cooling effects, a combined application of super-cooling the strip and roller surfaces and roller lubrication on the input side of the stand is disclosed, in which both media, water and lubricant, are separately fed to the rollers (2, 3) and the rolled strip and applied to the roller surface at different application points. Separate reservoirs for water and lubricant and separate lines to the spraying bar (11) for water and the spraying bar (12) for the lubricant are provided.

  • Patent number: 7152448
Abstract: An apparatus that continuously processes a metal workpiece without substantially altering its cross section includes a wheel member having an endless circumferential groove, and a stationary constraint die that surrounds the wheel member, covers most of the length of the groove, and forms a passageway with the groove. The passageway has a rectangular shaped cross section. An abutment member projects from the die into the groove and blocks one end of the passageway. The wheel member rotates relative to the die in the direction toward the abutment member. An output channel in the die adjacent the abutment member has substantially the same cross section as the passageway. A metal workpiece is fed through an input channel into the passageway and carried in the groove by frictional drag in the direction towards the abutment member, and is extruded through the output channel without any substantial change in cross section.

  • Patent number: 7152446
Abstract: At the time for forming an internal gear from a raw material 2 of an internal gear, first, the raw material 2 is externally inserted onto a forming die 3 and fixed to the forming die 3 through a pressing die 4. Next, a forming roll 5 is moved in a direction as indicated by an arrow B of FIG. 6 while rotating the forming die 3. By this, the inner peripheral surface of the raw material 3 is pressed against an outer gear part 3b formed on the outer peripheral surface of the forming die 3 so that an internal gear part 1c is formed on the inner peripheral surface of the raw material 2. The rotating direction of the forming die 3 is selected such that the first end part of the outer gear part 3b located on the front side in the feeding direction of the forming roll 5 is moved ahead in the rotating direction (the direction as indicated by an arrow A of FIG. 6) of the second end part located on the rear side in the feeding direction of the forming roll 5.

  • Patent number: 7146835
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for reducing the width of a plurality of longitudinal slots or other openings spaced circumferentially around a slotted tubular member. The invention includes a seaming roller positioned to contact the outer surface of the slotted tubular member for transverse movement across the plurality of slots, and adapted to apply a force onto the slotted tubular member so as to reduce the slot width. The width of the plurality of slots is detected and compared to a set value indicative of a desired end slot width and based on this comparison, an adjustor connected to the seaming roller, adjusts the force applied by the seaming roller to the plurality of slots. Each opening is adjusted by the seaming roller to have a profile with a width that throughout the length of the slot profile, varies no more than a given tolerance from the desired end slot width.

  • Patent number: 7143622
Abstract: The invention relates to an extruded composite profile (10) and to method for separately winding two individual simultaneously extruded tubes (20, 30) with the aid of a winding device. The inventive extruded composite profile (10) consists of at least two individual tubes (20, 30) connected to each other with the aid of a thin binding site which makes it possible to extrude thereof in such a way that they run out from an extruder (a) at an identical velocity (v1). Said output velocity is regulated by a regulating device (D) in order to obtain a constant velocity (v2) prior to dividing the extruded composite profile (10) into said individual tubes by means of a dividing device (E) which are wound afterwards. The levelling of the tubes output velocity (v1) and the winding velocity (v3) corresponding to (v2) makes it possible to carry out a low-cost winding of several simultaneously extruded profiles.

  • Patent number: 7143619
Abstract: While a material pipe and a roller are revolved relative to each other with a predetermined radius, the material pipe and the roller are moved relative to each other in the direction of progress of forming by eccentrically moving the center axis of the material pipe and the revolution axis of the roller relative to each other and simultaneously moving the material pipe and the roller relative to each other in the directions of the axis. During movement in the direction of progress of the forming, an end portion of the material pipe is deflected by controlling the axis-direction moving portion so that the roller is moved relative to the material pipe in the direction of the axis when the circumferential position of the roller, with respect to a circumference of the material pipe, changes from an inner side of the direction of deflection toward an outer side of the direction of deflection.
