  • Patent number: 6045274
Abstract: The present invention relates to a power supply apparatus and provides a power supply apparatus capable of properly performing the protective operation at the completion of use of the instrument connected through the power supply line, when and after suspension of supplement from the side of the power supply apparatus. In response to the on/off operation of a switch 106 which is responsive to the closing/opening movement of the top cover member of the instrument for which the electric power is supplied, a MPU 110 generates an instruction for the instrument to move a state in which the instrument has turned to no-use condition and to be suspended to receive the power supply, and, based on the instruction, by means of a timer 107, after a predetermined period of time is measured, the supplement of the power supply is suspended.

  • Patent number: 6045275
Abstract: A thermal head controller includes a central processing unit (CPU), a storage unit, an arithmetic unit, a controller, and a thermal head. The CPU reads print data stored in the storage unit. The storage unit holds print data to be printed on a stamp print face, which are transferred from a host computer. The CPU transfers the read data to the arithmetic unit, and causes the arithmetic unit to perform print-pattern processing. The arithmetic unit stores pattern data in its shift register before processing the stored pattern data. The print-pattern processing is performed so as to prevent fine print from being erased due to the deformation of the stamp print face caused by heat conduction in polyethylene foam sheet when the stamp print face is formed. The CPU uses the controller to control the thermal energy of dots positioned on the border between print dots and non-print dots on the thermal head.

  • Patent number: 6041569
Abstract: A mailing machine has an envelope transport device extending longitudinally therethrough and a digital ink jet printing device located adjacent the downstream end of the transport device. Due to the criticality of the spacing between the upper surface of an envelope and the discharge nozzles of the ink jet print head, the envelopes passing through the mailing machine must have their upper surfaces registered with a fixed plane that extends in spaced relationship with the nozzles. The mailing machine includes a flap closing device having fixed and movable elements that can accommodate variations in thickness of the envelopes extending from the registration plane downwardly within a fixed range so that the flap closing device can simultaneously close the flaps of both thin and thick envelopes passing through the mailing machine in a mixed stream.

  • Patent number: 6029578
Abstract: A method and a device for starting a machine, in particular, a printing press, using a sensor or sensor field which emits a start signal during the approach of a part of the body of a machine operator. According to the method, the machine is automatically started if the start signal appears twice consecutively and if the following additional conditions, automatically checked by a machine controller, are met: No start signal is present within a first predefined time period following the instant of the first appearance of the start signal in a predefined time interval, and the start signal reappears within a second predefined time period following the first predefined time period. The device includes a proximity- or touch-sensitive operating surface, which has a first partial surface having the function of a machine starter and second partial surface, which blocks the function of the first partial surface for a predefined period of time in response to proximity or contact.

  • Patent number: 6024504
Abstract: A process corrects geometric errors in the transfer of information without mechanical intervention on the printing form, to compensate for the errors that occur and thus attain optimized print quality prior to imaging. The corrections are visually indiscernible, so that the artifacts created in the printed result by the corrections do not stand out in the image. A device-independent description of the page information to be printed is converted by a Raster Imaging Process into at least one device-dependent digital matrix. Each matrix with m rows and n columns contains the information for a certain color to be printed. After the individual matrices are produced, they are supplied to a matrix manipulation device, which subjects each matrix to a correction transformation using specific parameters. After the matrices are adjusted, they are supplied by a matrix transfer device to the digital imaging devices in the printing mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 6017160
Abstract: The invention comprises a rotatable sheet feed roller; a rotatable press-contacting roller capable of press-contacting against an outer peripheral surface of the sheet feed roller; a sheet feed motor, being a stepping motor, for rotationally driving the sheet feed roller; and a transmission mechanism for transmitting the rotational power of the sheet feed motor to the sheet feed roller; wherein a line feed starting position of the recording sheet at a initial predetermined pitch is set to permit continuation of line feeding by a predetermined amount from a moment a mechanical condition with respect to the recording sheet changes during line feeding at a portion where the mechanical condition changes. The invention provides a printer that performs line feeding by a very accurate amount by line feeding at a constant pitch, even though a mechanical condition of the sheet feed mechanism changes.

  • Patent number: 6010259
Abstract: A donor ribbon and method capable of detecting donor ribbon type and aligning color patches relative to a print head. A dye donor ribbon having a predetermined width includes a plurality of donor color patches thereon. Separating adjacent ones of the patches is a space in which is formed a first stripe extending the entire width of the ribbon. The first stripe defines borders between the adjacent color patches. A second stripe of a predetermined width together with the first stripe are disposed in the space before a beginning one of the color patches to define a beginning sequence of color patches. The second stripe is adjacent to and spaced-apart from the first mark by a predetermined distance and also extends the width of the ribbon parallel to the first stripe. A ratio of the width of the second stripe to the distance between the second stripe and its adjacent first stripe is unique to each donor type and is used to inform the printer of the specific donor type loaded into the printer.

  • Patent number: 6010261
Abstract: In a printer apparatus having an automatic paper feed selection function for automatically selecting one of a plurality of paper feed means in which a paper of a designated size is loaded, an operator is permitted to set a desired priority. When there are a plurality of paper feed means in which the paper of the designated size are loaded, the paper feed means of a higher priority is selected to cause the selected paper feed means to feed the paper for printing. The priority may be set to groups each comprising a plurality of paper feed means. When there are a plurality of paper feed means in one group in which the paper of the designated size are loaded, the paper is fed from predetermined paper feed means. When no paper is loaded in a paper feed cassette of the paper feed means from which the paper is to be fed, one of a plurality of operation modes relating to a timing to inform it may be selected by the operator.

  • Patent number: 6007261
Abstract: A host computer checks the frequency of type data such as a character code or a graphic pattern in print data. Type data with a high frequency is registered in a registered character management area in correspondence with a data ID and sent to a printer. The printer registers the received ID and data in a print data registration area. Thereafter, the host computer sends print data obtained upon replacement of the type data with the ID to the printer. The printer identifies an ID included in the print data, replaces the ID with the corresponding type data, and outputs the print data. With this processing, data with a high use frequency can be registered in the printer. Therefore, the data transfer amount from the host computer can be decreased, and the printing processing speed is increased. In addition, since the frequency is totalized, the memory in the printer can be effectively used.
