  • Patent number: 4605457
Abstract: A method and system for tensioning and applying a foam core tape having pressure sensitive adhesive faces to a body side molding. The method is effected to obtain the necessary stretch in the foam core tape to coordinate with any dimensional changes which may occur in the body side moldings to which it is bonded. The system includes a tensioning roll disposed between a supply roll and the point of application of the tape to the body side molding. The peripheral surface of the tensioning roll frictionally engages the foam tape and the rotation of the tensioning roll is controlled by suitable braking mechanism to effect a desired stretch in the tape prior to its application to the body molding.

  • Patent number: 4600934
Abstract: An etch stopped layer portion overlying a (100) or (110) major face of a diamond cubic semiconductor material is undercut anisotropically etched by orienting a side edge of the etch stopped layer portion which is to be undercut, at an angle to the most nearly parallel {111} trace on the (100) or (110) face. The etch time is further reduced by slotting through the etch stopped layer with slots oriented at an angle to the {111} traces on the underlying (100) or (110) face. Undercut bridge structures are formed by undercutting quadrilateral etch stopped layer portions from opposite sides of the quadrilateral or from the sides plus slots forming diagonals of {111} trace quadrilaterals having combined areas coextensive with the area to be undercut.

  • Patent number: 4599129
Abstract: This invention deals with a machine or method for transferring decalcomania (decals) from a rolled carrier web or strip to a series of articles. The machine supports a supply reel containing the web and transports the web from the supply reel through a photo sensitive indexing assembly, past a decal applying pressure roller assembly, to a take-up tensioning roller powered by a motor for driving the web. The photoelectric or other appropriate device actuates the release of a brake or other holding means from a web clamping position so that a decal on the web is placed in position for transfer to an article. The web tensioning mechanism is provided to hold the web under tension during application of a decal. A photo cell assembly may be operated to adjust the position of the web so that successive decals are precisely at the transfer position.

  • Patent number: 4598749
Abstract: A vehicle tire with traction-improving devices, wherein the basic tire has a plurality of uniformly spaced apart cross grooves running essentially from sidewall to sidewall. Each groove is fitted with an inflatable bag or bladder which, when uninflated, retracts within the circle of the road-engaging surface of the tread. An annular manifold is affixed to at least one sidewall and is connected by conduits to the cross members. This manifold has a valved air inlet which may be used to pressurize the cross members via the manifold and thus to project the inflated members radially beyond the circle of the tread so that they engage the road surface. Depressurizing the manifold of course causes the members to retract. Each cross member is equipped with some form of traction-improving substance, structure or the like to enhance road grippability, especially in slippery road conditions.

  • Patent number: 4597821
Abstract: A hand held, trigger operated, adhesive hot melt gun slidably mounts a base plate parallel with the gun axis with the plate spring biased forwardly in the direction of a hot melt adhesive discharge nozzle at the end of the gun remote from the trigger. An L-shaped extrusion tip carried by said nozzle includes a series of small diameter holes forming a vertical array within an upright leg which leg contacts an edge of a panel during sweep of the extrusion tip across the edge to deposit linear beads of melted adhesive thereon. The band, which may be mounted within a magazine on the base plate, feeds across the back edge of the extrusion tip to contact the adhesive coated panel edge downstream of the adhesive application point at a point where it is tacky. A spring biased pressure roller mounted to the base plate or otherwise presses the band against the tacky adhesive at this point during relative sweep of the apparatus along the edge of the panel.

  • Patent number: 4596624
Abstract: An apparatus for laminating multilayered printed circuit boards while radically reducing the volume of inert gas that must otherwise be used to effect the lamination process. The invention employs a novel ring assembly, each such assembly disposed on a moveable, horizontally disposed shelf. Each such ring assembly comprises a hollow circular cylinder, the interior of which is adapted to radially enclose a multiple layer circuit module mounted on a heating platen. The axial surfaces of the cylinder are capped by a pair of seal plates and O-rings to form a gas-tight laminating chamber. Each shelf is adapted to travel vertically along a pair of support tubes whereby the entire array of shelves may be compressed relative to the respective shelves by a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder the rod of which is affixed to the bottom surface of the lowermost shelf.

  • Patent number: 4596618
Abstract: Disposable fitted sheets and method for making them. The sheets are formed without necessitating prior cutting by folding edges of the material and attaching the folded-over edges along diagonal lines associated with each corner. Elastic bands cooperate with each pocket to maintain the fit on the corners of the mattress. The bands are fastened in a stretched condition to the folded-over edges while the sheet is in a flat state. The process of the invention is particularly adapted to continuously forming such sheets which may be formed from a variety of inexpensive materials. Sheets of the invention are particularly useful in hospitals and nursing homes where frequent bedding changes may be needed.
