  • Patent number: 4578133
Abstract: Continuous strips of a first material, e.g., elastic strips, are continuously supplied to flexible strip supports in a supply zone while the strip supports are in a linear configuration. The strip supports are carried on respective transfer members which are mounted on a rotatable support so that individual transfer members follow a closed (orbital) path upon rotation of the support. The continuous strips are cut into discrete strips adhered to respective flexible strip supports whose configuration, and that of the discrete strips adhered thereto, is then changed to a desired curvilinear configuration. The transfer members are then brought into transfer contact in a transfer zone with a moving web of second material, which may comprise the backing sheet of a disposable diaper construction, and the curvilinear strips are transferred to the web.

  • Patent number: 4578074
Abstract: A closed pouch for infusion liquid is made from a continuously extruded plastics hose by providing transverse seals and cutting the hose in said seals, and an assembly of two necks and a filling hose connection is secured to the outer wall of each pouch, said wall being pierced when liquid is to be extracted from or supplied to the pouch through one of said necks. Such an assembly is made from plastics as a unitary structure together with closing caps for the necks and a common flange to be secured to said wall. One neck is provided, at the flange side, with an enlarged bore terminating in a shoulder which is substantially parallel to the flange, and a pierceable sealing pad is inserted from the flange side into said enlarged bore, the latter being eventually closed by the pouch wall.

  • Patent number: 4576214
Abstract: An anti-skid device is intended for use on pneumatic tires when the tires are used on ice and snow. The device includes a supporting disk with anti-skid arms pivotally displaceable about axes extending parallel to the axis of the wheel on which the pneumatic tire is mounted. The supporting disk is fixed to the wheel by a fixing disk and a retaining ring mounted on the wheel rim. The combination of the fixing disk and the retaining ring secure the supporting disk on a hub formed on the fixing disk. The supporting disk is arranged so that there is a certain amount of clearance relative to the hub for performing eccentric rotary movement for adapting the device to any elastic deformation of the pneumatic tire.

  • Patent number: 4574858
Abstract: A tire chain device of the type which has a rigid structure positioned on the inner side of the wheel upon which it is installed, said rigid structure being comprised of an adjustable length horizontal strap and two rigid depending straps pivoted from either end thereof in a manner that restricts pivoting more than 90.degree., the two ends of the horizontal strap of said inner structure being connected by two short cross links to an adjustable length outer strap, and the lower end of each depending strap being removably connected by two long cross links to a plurality of posts having expanded ends spaced along the exposed side of the outer strap. In another mode of the invention the inner structure is comprised of five rigid straps including four of equal length and shape pivotally depending from one horizontal strap such that they form five sides of an octagon when pivoted to their maximum outward extent.

  • Patent number: 4574027
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for attaching adhesive labels to objects comprising a rotatably mounted tubular labelling arm driven by a motor and having a suction head disposed at its free end, this suction head being directly connected via the tubular labelling arm to a vacuum source for the purpose of drawing a label by suction onto the suction head. In order to be able to use such a device, which has a high operating speed, as universally as possible, i.e. for labelling the most varied types of object, the tubular labelling arm bearing the suction head is designed to be bendably elastic and rotate in a single direction of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4574028
Abstract: In apparatus for producing a corrugated element, each pressing device for deforming a top web of the corrugated element has a separate guide means which is adjustable relative to a plane extending transversely with respect to the direction of forward feed movement of the webs. Each guide means is secured together with drive transmission for its pressing device to a plate. The plates can be adjusted by adjusting screws on opposite sides of the webs, thereby permitting the pressing devices to be adapted to specific operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 4572260
Abstract: The invention relates to a vehicle wheel with internally located emergency wheel, which is composed of a plurality of segments, preferably four segments. The segments have a substantially double T-shaped cross-section. Each segment is clamped in the well-base channel of the wheel rim by means of two clamp screws. In order to facilitate assembly of the emergency wheel, a clear space kept totally free from other installations is provided between the segments and the tire beads supported at the wheel rim. This space permits easy alignability and mobility of the segment pieces in the circumferential direction. Axial grooves on the radial inner sides of the segments, at an interval corresponding approximately to the diameter of the clamp screws, permits the circumferential alignment of the segments during the assembly by means of a screwdriver or the like. The segments are fastened with two screws each.

  • Patent number: 4570691
Abstract: A vehicle wheel-tire assembly wherein the tire has a low inflation pressure (large tire footprint) in a low vehicle speed range, and a large inflation pressure (small tire footprint) in a high vehicle speed range. The tire is partitioned into a series of circumferential compartments, with each compartment being provided with a valve mechanism for introducing air into the compartment and/or withdrawing air from the compartment as needed to maintain desired inflation pressures in the different vehicle speed ranges. The system is contained entirely in the wheel-tire assembly; no external air compressors or control valves are utilized.

  • Patent number: 4569709
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for applying a tread to a tire, whereby around a toroidal tire a layer of non-vulcanized rubber is applied, which will form the tread area of the tire after vulcanization in the vulcanization press; and whereby the thus prepared tire is vulcanized in vulcanization press. According to the invention, before the vulcanization of the thus prepared tire in a vulcanization press, portions of the layer of non-vulcanized rubber are removed by peeling or by forming peels of non-vulcanized rubber, so that the shape of the peeled tire is adapted to the shape of the vulcanization press. The invention also relates to a machine for carrying out the method according to the invention.

  • Patent number: 4564409
Abstract: In order to form safety markings at a planar card made of a plastics material, which card may be used, for instance, as credit card, this card is built up from at least two parts. The inner border area between these two parts comprises a relief-like structure which is the carrier of the safety marking. In order to generate a watermark-like effect the upper part is made of a opaque plastic material and the other part is made of a transparent plastics material. When viewing through this card the areas of the opaque layer having the largest thickness appear as darker areas, whereby when viewing the same way the areas having a smaller thickness show a certain brightness. After being embossed the two parts of the thermoplastic material are joined to each other such that they cannot be separated such that no access from the outside is possible to this safety marking.
