Patent number: 6826549Abstract: A system enables an interactively guided heuristic search for solving a combinatorial optimization problem. The system initially performs a hill-climbing search on the combinatorial optimization problem to obtain a solution using initial default parameters. The current solution and the combinatorial optimization problem are visualized on an optimization table, a table-top display device. The parameters are altered based on the visualization of the combinatorial optimization problem and the current solution. Then, the searching, visualizing, and setting are repeated until the solution is selected as an acceptable solution of the combinatorial optimization problem. During the repeating, the parameters can be a set of probabilities, and in which case the search is a random perturbation-based search. Alternatively, the parameters can be a set of priorities, in which case the search is an exhaustive local search.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1999Date of Patent: November 30, 2004Assignee: Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Joseph W. Patent number: 6823226Abstract: A system and method of receiving orders, placing orders in an order matrix, determining potential production periods for an order, rescheduling orders, and generating a bill of materials. The method receives an order having one or more tokens out of a set of possible tokens. Each token is a combination of a characteristic and a value of the characteristic. The orders are placed in an order matrix. An order restriction matrix for the orders is generated based on certain selection conditions. The method then examines the restrictions that apply to the order and derives an order derived production restriction matrix for the order, which is evaluated to determine possible production periods for the order. The order matrix may also be used to generate a bill of materials.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2001Date of Patent: November 23, 2004Assignee: SAP AktiengesellschaftInventors: Achim Clemens, Thomas Kern

Patent number: 6823224Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a mechanism to prevent the oscillator from being stopped when a host development system is coupled to the background debug communications interface and the background debug mode has been enabled. This allows background debugging operations to continue when the target data processing system is in a low power mode. Other embodiments relate to a mechanism for allowing a host development system to request a synchronization timing pulse from a target data processing system so the correct clock speed can be determined for background communications. Alternate embodiments relate to a data processing system having a system clock unit and a background debug system where the background debug system includes a background debug clock unit, separate from the system clock unit, and an enable control. When the enable control is asserted, the background debug clock unit is enabled, independent of the system clock unit.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2001Date of Patent: November 23, 2004Assignee: Freescale Semiconductor, Inc.Inventors: Michael C. Patent number: 6741916Abstract: An accident point locating system locates an accident point on a power transmission line. A digital protective control system has a plurality of digital protective controllers that receive state data representing a state of an electric power system and convert the same into corresponding digital state data. An absolute time acquiring means acquires an absolute time when the state data is sampled. A state data processing decides whether any malfunction occurred in the power transmission system on the basis of the digital state and executes a protective operation when it is decided that an accident occurred in the power transmission system. A recording device adds an absolute sampling time to the digital state data and records the digital state data with the absolute time. A digital data sending device provides the digital state data with the absolute time on a communication network.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2000Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Katsuhiko Sekiguchi, Yoshihiro Shirota
