    Abstract: A powered handpiece for driving a surgical blade to cut anatomical tissue includes a reusable handpiece body having a distal end for being coupled with a surgical blade, a drive shaft in the handpiece body for rotatably driving the surgical blade, a motor assembly for being installed in the handpiece body to rotatably drive the drive shaft and a suction channel in the handpiece body including a portion extending through the drive shaft parallel to a longitudinal axis of the motor assembly for evacuating anatomical tissue cut by the blade from the handpiece body for external collection. The surgical blade is for use with the powered handpiece and carries a sealing arrangement facilitating irrigation and suction. The handpiece body is capable of being sterilized to medical standards prior to each use.

    Abstract: A breast pump that gently milks a lactating mother's breast is comprised of a housing having a flexible sleeve that receives the breast. A rotating wheel and connection rod combine to reciprocate the sleeve back and fourth relative to an opening on the housing while a cam operates to squeeze and unsqueeze the sleeve. A motor operatively connects to the cam and to the wheel. An adjustment mechanism adjusts the initial parameters of the sleeve in order to accommodate various sized breasts.

    Abstract: In preferred aspects the invention provides an in-line humidifier, a system using such a humidifier and methods related thereto, a method for infusing a gas into an eye during retinal detachment surgical procedure and a method for treating a retinal tear. The method for infusing gas includes providing an in-line humidifier, humidifying the gas in the in-line humidifier by flowing the gas there through and infusing the humidified gas into the eye. The in-line humidifier includes a housing and a humidifier section disposed within the housing, the humidifier section including a hydroscopic material that releasably retains liquid therein. The housing includes an inlet and outlet connection in fluid communication with the housing interior.

    Abstract: An indwelling catheter is made of a polyurethane resin having a Shore hardness of 60D or more. The soft segment of the polyurethane resin is constituted by polycaprolactone. The indwelling catheter has a kinking resistance of 10 mm or more when measured at 37.degree. C. in wet state. The Young's modulus is at first 20 kgf/mm.sup.2 or more when measure at 25.degree. C. in dry state, and reduces to 15 kgf/mm.sup.2 or less by soaking it in water of 37.degree. C. for 5 minutes or less.
