  • Patent number: 9313721
Abstract: To reduce power consumption for communication operation wherein a client terminal at the time of offline searches a base station or access point. A server uses a communication information predicting algorithm to predict a location or time whereby the server becomes an offline state over a movement route of a client terminal, and a location or time whereby the server returns to an online state, and informs to the client terminal. The client terminal suspends a communication function when reaching the informed offline predicted location or time. The client terminal at the time of offline determines that the current location or time has reached an online return predicted location or time using location recognition or point-in-time recognition, and restores the communication function.

  • Patent number: 9268367
Abstract: A device may have a plurality of displays, such as a high-power display and a low-power display. The low-power display may be used to display various types of information. Some examples of information that may be displayed on the low-power display include personal customizations of the device (e.g., skins, tattoos, text or graphics, etc.), a battery meter, a signal strength meter, the date and time, or any other type of information. In one example, the device has a separate processor that drives the low-power display, so that the low-power display can be used while the device is in sleep mode or off. In another example, an application that runs on the device's regular processor uses the high- and low-power displays cooperatively to display output from an application. The low-power display can be wrapped around the edges and/or corners of the device, to make effective use of the device's surface area.

  • Patent number: 9253752
Abstract: An asset tracking system that optimizes the value per ping by tying the ping to a pattern of movements of the asset. The asset tracking device will send a ping to a remote host (i.e., receiver) when pre-determined condition(s) regarding the movement are met, conditions such as the pattern of movement, and number of movements within a time period. In such a manner, the value per ping is optimized, leading to increased battery life and decreased operational cost. To satisfy these conditions, the asset tracking device is equipped with appropriate sensors, actuators, and trigger mechanism(s). The sensors and actuators detect movements and/or confirm or recognize a sequence of movements. When the detected movements and/or sequence of movements match a predetermined, recognized pattern or condition, the trigger mechanism is activated, after which a data ping is sent.

  • Patent number: 9246618
Abstract: Embodiments are described herein for selective joinder of wireless cells by machine-type communication (“MTC”) user equipment (“UE”). An MTC UE may detect a plurality of wireless cells, each provided by an evolved Node B (“eNB”). The MTC UE may detect eNB categories associated with individual wireless cells of the plurality of wireless cells, and may identify one or more wireless cells of the plurality of detected wireless cells on which MTC traffic is permitted based on the associated eNB categories. The MTC UE may selectively join a wireless cell of the one or more identified wireless cells based on a cell selection criterion. Additionally, an eNB may provide a wireless cell and provide, to an MTC UE, an MTC policy that identifies a circumstance under which the eNB will permit MTC traffic. The eNB may be configured to selectively serve the MTC UE based on the MTC policy.

  • Patent number: 9204428
Abstract: Systems and methods are described that facilitate evaluating conditions of nodes (e.g., access points, access terminals, etc.) in a wireless communication environment to determine a level of disadvantage for a given node relative to other nodes. A first node may receive a resource utilization message (RxRUM) and may determine a level of disadvantage for a node that sent the RxRUM. The first node may then compare its own level of disadvantage to the sending node in order to permit a determination of an appropriate course of action in response to the RxRUM.

  • Patent number: 9167512
Abstract: In one illustrative example, a wireless device receives a communication policy from a private network. The communication policy includes allowable service provider identifiers (e.g. domain names, realms) corresponding to allowable service providers. The wireless device stores these identifiers in its memory. When roaming, the wireless device encounters a wireless network (“hotspot”) and receives via the wireless network one or more reachable service provider identifiers corresponding to one or more reachable service providers. In a work mode of operation, the wireless device allows a connection to the wireless network based on a match between one of the allowable and reachable service provider identifiers, but otherwise disallows the connection. The communication policy may additionally or alternatively include device types for P2P networks, and/or allowable private network identifiers (e.g. ESSIDs), and/or allowable hotspot aggregator service identifiers or names, for use in the work mode.
