Abstract: Methods and apparatus for performing optimizations for a mobile network device such as a Mobile Node or Mobile Router supporting multiple links to a Home Agent (or Correspondent Node in a Mobile IPv6 environment) are disclosed. During the registration process, link characteristics are transmitted in the registration request. From the link characteristics, it is possible to determine whether the mobile network device has roamed from a high to a low bandwidth link, or vice versa. A first set of optimizations may be performed when the mobile network device has roamed from a high to a low bandwidth link, while a second set of optimizations may be performed when the mobile network device has roamed from a low to a high bandwidth link. Some optimizations may be performed during the establishment of a TCP session, while others may be performed during or upon completion of the Mobile IP registration process.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use in switching communications associated with a user account from a first (“source”) mobile communication device to a second (“target”) mobile communication device are disclosed. The source and target devices may be possessed and/or owned by the same end user. The source device is initially enabled to maintain data synchronization with a host server over a wireless communication network via a first wireless transceiver (e.g. a cellular transceiver) for user data of an application program (e.g. an e-mail application program) associated with the user account. To enable the target device for the communications associated with the user account, the source device is operative to establish a programming session with the target device via a second wireless transceiver (e.g. a short-range wireless transceiver). During the programming session, the source device causes user account data (e.g.
Abstract: A method and system for qualifying and transmitting an invitation to a mobile phone number to receive digital communications is disclosed herein. A customer profile stored at a CRM database is analyzed and processed to determine if the data capable phone carrier and data capable communication device is associated with a phone number in the customer profile that has opted-in to receive digital communications such as for a mobile marketing campaign.
Abstract: A wireless communications network (120) responds to each incoming call placed to a wireless communications device (134) by transmitting a call-paging message (418) within a corresponding partition of a digital radio frame of prescribed format. Responsive to each occurrence of a broadcast event (404), the network transmits (414) a repeating broadcast-paging message announcing the availability of broadcast content from the network. The broadcast-paging message is transmitted multiple times within each digital radio frame. Another sequence (500) describes WCD operation in this network. Responsive to wakeup (502) from sleep, the WCD detects (509) received signal quality. The WCD also receives (510) scheduled network transmission of a call-paging message and a number of instances (at least one) of a repeating network transmitted broadcast-paging message that occurs multiple times for each scheduled transmission of the call-paging message. This number varies inversely with the detected signal quality.
Abstract: A data transmission method in a wireless relay system, and a method of selecting an optimal transmission mode based on a channel capacity of an individual link that is measured by a mobile station. The data transmission method includes: transmitting a first ratio of first partial data of the data from a base station to a mobile station; transmitting a second ratio of second partial data of the data from the base station to a first relay station; and forwarding the second partial data from the first relay station to the mobile station, wherein the first ratio or the second ratio is determined based on any one of a channel capacity of a first link between the base station and the mobile station, and a channel capacity of a second link between the first relay station and the mobile station.

Abstract: In an RF communication system, aspects for cellular network and intelligent integrated broadcast television downlink with intelligent service control with feedback may comprise a mobile terminal (MT) generating a request for media comprising a specified quality of service (QoS) to be delivered to the mobile terminal. The request may be sent via a cellular service. The QoS may be negotiated between the MT and the cellular service and/or a broadcast service, where the cellular service and/or the broadcast service may provide the requested media. The specified QoS may be determined based on, for example, a received channel condition. The media may be received by the MT via a single integrated cellular and VHF/UHF baseband processor, and the received media may be consumed by the MT. The broadcast service may comprise, for example, a cellular broadcast service and VHF/UHF broadcast services such as, for example, DVB, ISDB, ISDB terrestrial, and ATSC services.
Abstract: A system and method automatically update contact information. The system comprises a recipient device, a dialer communications device, and an update manager. The recipient communications device receives calls forwarded from a service provider. The recipient communications device is reached using updated contact information. The dialer communications device calls the recipient communications device via the service provider using outdated contact information. The update manager transmits the updated contact information to the dialer communications device for an automatic update.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and a system for device discovery in wireless communication. One implementation involves scanning one or more wireless channels to discover a partner wireless station for a new transmission, by detecting peak energy and beacons on each scanned channel. If a beacon is not detected, then selecting the clearest channel among the scanned channels, and transmitting beacons on the clearest channel. Upon detecting a beacon from a partner station, establishing association with the partner station and selecting a wireless data channel for communication with the partner station. Another implementation involves discovering a partner wireless station to establish a data channel for communication with a discovering station that is associated with a coordinator station, and transmitting a bandwidth reservation request to the coordinator to reserve channel time for control message exchange between the discovering station and the partner station.

Abstract: A method and system for performing handover in a third generation (3G) long term evolution (LTE) system are disclosed. A source evolved Node-B (eNode-B) makes a handover decision based on measurements and sends a handover request to a target eNode-B. The target eNode-B sends a handover response to the source eNode-B indicating that a handover should commence. The source eNode-B then sends a handover command to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The handover command includes at least one of reconfiguration information, information regarding timing adjustment, relative timing difference between the source eNode-B and the target eNode-B, information regarding an initial scheduling procedure at the target eNode-B, and measurement information for the target eNode-B. The WTRU then accesses the target eNode-B and exchanges layer 1/2 signaling to perform downlink synchronization, timing adjustment, and uplink and downlink resource assignment based on information included in the handover command.
