  • Patent number: 9648385
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for adapting playback bit rate to available delivery bandwidth in a content delivery system comprising a content server and a content player. A content player periodically estimates whether a given playback bit rate can feasibly provide complete playback for a given title assuming currently available bandwidth. If playback becomes unfeasible at a current bit rate assuming currently available bandwidth, then the content player adapts the bit rate downward until a feasible bit rate is achieved. If playback is feasible using a higher bit rate, then the content player may adapt the bit rate upward.

  • Patent number: 9486701
Abstract: A computer-controlled video entertainment system providing user-related input data to said system. The invention provides an rich input sensor device having direct access to an IP-based network, in particular to the Internet, for transmitting sensor signals or data derived thereof as user-related input data via the IP-based network to a remote computing device or server, preferably to a cloud of servers, which then process these input data for controlling the running entertainment program. The sensor device can be made simple, since it is mainly designed to detect user activities and to generate sensor signals which are directly transmitted as input data to the remote computer(s) or server(s). The sensor device can directly communicate with any IP-based computing device (gaming server or the like) being installed remotely and having powerful hardware and software to process the received input data.

  • Patent number: 9473736
Abstract: In response to receiving from a subscriber both a request to record content and a unique requester key, a network DVR identifies an asset associated with the request. The network DVR segments the asset in to a series of segments, assigns a mediaword to each segment for compression, encrypts each of the segments using an encryption key, and records the encrypted asset segments in an encrypted dictionary storage as definitions, i.e., dictionary entries. The encrypted key and the mediaword are forwarded to a requester handler flow in the network DVR that generates requester-specific encrypted copies using the requester key received from the subscriber. The mediaword, encrypted encryption key, and the encrypted asset segments are stored in and retrievable for the corresponding requester.
