  • Patent number: 5279012
Abstract: Self-propelled steerable apparatus for removing material, such as sludge, from the bottom surface of a liquid storage tank for disposition elsewhere comprises a support platform and a reversely rotatable motor-driven auger mounted below the support platform and cooperating therewith to define a space for receiving sludge when the rotatable auger is engaged with the surface. A motor-driven pump mounted on the support platform is operable to receive sludge from the auger and deliver it through a discharge hose to a remote location. Rotation of the auger delivers the sludge to the pump and propels the apparatus across the surface. A remotely controllable steering mechanism on the support platform has a tail wheel which engages the surface and steers the apparatus along a desired path. A winch-controlled back-haul cable is connected to the apparatus to periodically stop forward movement of the apparatus while the auger is still rotating so that the sludge can be more efficiently removed.

  • Patent number: 5255407
Abstract: A windshield wiper is disclosed having a rotatable roller scrubber mounted on a roller retainer which is attached to the windshield wiper frame or blade. The roller retainer may have a semi-cylindrical configuration defining an internal space in which the roller scrubber is mounted. The roller scrubber has a plurality of elongated scrubbing strips and is located in the roller retainer such that one of the scrubbing strips extends outwardly of the assembly to bear against a window or windshield of the vehicle. A pair of roller retainers, each having a roller scrubber, may be attached to a single windshield wiper frame. Stops are located within the interior spaces of the roller retainers so as to enable each of the roller scrubbers to rotate in only one direction. The stops are located such that the roller scrubbers attached to a single windshield wiper frame rotate in opposite directions. Cleaning brushes extend into the internal spaces so as to clean the scrubbing strips as the roller scrubbers rotate.

  • Patent number: 5131323
Abstract: A packing sheet calender comprises a cooled cylinder of small diameter and a heated cylinder of large diameter. The heated cylinder comprises a cylindrical casing and end walls with integral stub shafts projecting centrally from the end walls. At least one of the stub shafts is hollow. Circumferentially spaced axially extending bores are provided in the casing for the flow of hot water which is supplied by a tube system extending axially of the cylinder and comprising an inner tube and an outer tube surrounding the inner tube. Radial bores in one end wall connect the axially extending bores in the casing with the outer tube. Radial bores in the other end wall connect the axially extending bores in the casing with an annular chamber which is connected with the inner tube. The inner and outer tubes are connected through the hollow stub shaft with a device for supplying hot water to one of the tubes and withdrawing water from the other.

  • Patent number: 5109764
Abstract: A double screen belt press for dewatering mixtures of fibrous material suspensions has a wedge compression zone comprising rolls and perforated plates supporting generally upper and lower screen belts. For dewatering mixtures of fibrous material suspensions having a high dry solids content, at least one sealed material feed empties into the wedge compression zone with a high pressure. A generally vertically gravity tower with an outlet port is provided to feed material into the entrance of the wedge compression zone above the lower screen belt and in front of the front roll supporting the upper screen belt. The outlet port area of the material feed is sealed on at least the side facing the lower screen belt and optionally on the side facing the upper screen belt and on the other side of the material feed facing away from the wedge compression zone between the material feed and the lower screen belt.

  • Patent number: 5010810
Abstract: An apparatus including a disposal conduit mounted in underlying relationship to a tray. The tray includes an entrance opening in alignment with the conduit, and wherein the conduit includes a lowermost terminal end and an arcuate chute mounted to the lower terminal end of the conduit and directed downwardly and forwardly of the conduit and positioned to deposit an associated can forwardly of a reciprocatable ram. The ram is coaxially aligned with a support chute, wherein the support chute includes a forward terminal end spaced from a side wall of a surrounding housing a distance less than one-half a predetermined length of the associated can. A can deposited within the support chute actuates a switch to energize the ram and accordingly crushes the can to subsequently deposit the can in underlying storage compartment of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4676447
Abstract: An apparatus is provided wherein web material is unwound from successive rolls of web material by imparting a constant draw in the web material. The web is then forwarded through a constant tension zone to downstream equipment such as a converter for manufacturing disposable absorbent products. The constant tension zone is provided to isolate the web being forwarded under constant tension from tension fluctuations which may occur in the constant draw unwind portion of the apparatus: such tension fluctuations being relatively large in magnitude and random in nature especially with net-like webs, and blocking prone web marterials. A splicer is provided in the constant tension zone in close proximity to the constant-draw unwind to effect splices near the tail end of a just depleted roll of web but prior to the tail end passing out of the constant-draw unwind portion of the apparatus.
