  • Patent number: 4133106
Abstract: A folding knife has a blade and a pair of overlying scales all mounted on a pivot post. A lock pin and lock hole on the scales retain them in registry for blade use or storage. A stud on one scale engages a semi-circular slot in the blade and swings it to an extended position during a full turn of the scale around the pivot post, and a corresponding turn in the reverse direction retracts the blade. A blade guard between the scales serves as a stop or abutment for two different parts of the tange of the blade to limit extension and retraction. Spring means are built into the pivot post to yieldingly press the lock pin into the lock hole to prevent unintentional movement.

  • Patent number: 4128930
Abstract: A plumbing device includes a radially outwardly and resiliently expansible sealing plug carried on the front end of an elongated axial shaft. An elongated cylinder disposed about the shaft transmits axial movement to the plug from a jack mechanism near the rear end of the shaft so as to cause expansion of the plug into sealing engagement with the inner surface of a pipe in which it is positioned. An external shackle is clamped about the pipe and carries a pair of elongated threaded rods which extend rearwardly beyond the jack mechanism so that a rear lock gate plate can be placed over the axial shaft and secured on each of the threaded rods so as to abut the jack mechanism and so prevent rearward axial displacement of the plug within the pipe under the action of fluid pressure therein.

  • Patent number: 4043163
Abstract: A device for removing the press rest from the front side of a press disc for extruding tubes which has a substantially plane rear surface opposite the front side of the press disc. This disc comprises supporting means for supporting and holding the press disc from which is stripped a press rest. The device also comprises shearing means having a shearing surface which, when the press disc from which the press rest is to be stripped, rests on the supporting means, defines an obtuse angle with the rear surface of the disc. The disc and the shearing means are movable relative toward each other so as to cause the shearing means in response to such movement to strip the press rest off the press disc.

  • Patent number: 4040181
Abstract: The knife of the invention comprises a handle including a pair of side scales held in spaced parallel relation by a pair of end pins and a center pin, to provide a narrow elongate channel, a single folding blade pivoted on the forward end pin and a rigid locking rocker arm pivoted on the center pin for rocking movement in the channel. The blade has a key notch in the back of the tang and the forward end of the rocker arm has a key to engage the notch and lock the blade in extended position. An aperture through the aft portion of the rocker arm cooperates with the side scales to form a totally enclosed pocket through which the aft end pin passes, and a spring totally enclosed within the pocket engages the pin and the wall of the aperture to urge the arm into locking position. A recess in the back of the handle facilitates pressing the aft portion of the arm inward to release the blade for retraction. The totally enclosed pocket excludes dirt and ensures positive operation of the spring.

  • Patent number: 4040182
Abstract: A holder for a glass cutter has a bent palm contacting member attachable to the handle of a glass cutter for steadying the cutter during use. Removably connecting the palm contacting member to the cutter handle is a tapered sleeve of rectangular cross section which cooperates with tapered legs provided on the palm contacting member for creating a wedging action securing the contacting member on the cutter handle. By placing the cutter handle between the forefinger and middle finger of a user's hand and fitting the contacting member snugly in the palm of the same hand, the operator is enabled to hold the cutter very steady while pressing on the cutter against glass to be cut.

  • Patent number: 4038750
Abstract: A scissors comprising a pair of halves pivotally mounted together at a medial portion, each of the halves consisting of a one-piece strip of metal having a blade portion extending in one direction from the medial portion and a handle portion extending in the other direction from the medial portion. Each scissor half is formed by stamping a blank from a flat sheet of metal, the blank having a generally sinuous portion at one end thereof for use in forming a hollow cylindrical handle portion adapted to receive a finger in the natural position and angle for applying a cutting force to the scissors. In making the scissors the cutting edge is formed on the blade portion while the blank is in the flat condition and prior to the bending and twisting operation to form the handle portion.

  • Patent number: 4033038
Abstract: A clutch operable manually to couple and uncouple a driven member from a drive shaft and to stop movement of the driven member upon uncoupling of the same. A driving clutch plate and a reaction member are fixed on the drive shaft and axially spaced apart thereon. A driven clutch plate and a cooperating actuating and output member, mounted on the drive shaft between the driving clutch plate and reaction member, provide an axially expansible and contractible clutch assembly, the actuating and output member having driving engagement with the driven member. Actuator means, carried by the driven clutch plate and the actuating and output member, limits rotary movement between the driven clutch plate actuating and output member, and causes the clutch assembly to vary between expanded and contracted conditions. A stopping device is arranged to prevent rotation of the driven clutch plate.

  • Patent number: 4033022
Abstract: A hand operated swager for attaching a fitting to a hose includes a housing having a turning means rotatably mounted at the top portion thereof and a die for radially contracting the fitting onto the hose is removably mounted at the lower portion of the housing. The turning means is fixed against axial movement on the housing, is manually rotatable by the use of a wrench, and includes a ball nut threadably engaged with a pusher assembly that is axially but not rotatably movable relative to the housing whereby rotation of the turning means causes the pusher assembly to move axially into engagement with the fitting but imparts no rotary force to the pusher assembly that might be transmitted to the fitting. The swager also includes spring retainers for removably retaining the die in the housing.

  • Patent number: 4033035
Abstract: A large dimension beam cutting, detailing and mitering attachment for removable connection to the base plate of a portable circular power saw, wherein the cutting blade has been removed therefrom, and which includes a flat base attachment plate having a flat cutter bar and endless saw chain arranged thereon, with the bar fixedly attached thereto and depending at right angles therefrom. A sprocket associated with the saw chain is mounted on the drive shaft of the saw and the base attachment plate flatly receives and has means for attaching the cicular saw base plate thereto so that beams may be smoothly cut or mitered when the attachment plate is flatly disposed thereon and moved thereover. This enables the saw chain to be used in the same manner as a circular saw.

  • Patent number: 4033036
Abstract: A pole type pruner with an enclosed blade type construction whereby the blade is supported from the sides thru the whole cutting cycle so a thinner blade can be used for easier cutting and less distortion to the wood and bark. This distortion is further reduced by a more choke type, more confining type cutting method, and because regardless of tree limb direction or position the cutting angle of the blade can be directed nearly perpendicular to the limb due to the use of a pole section angle changing box. A pruning saw, one end pivoted to the end of the cutter blade handle, sheathed when desired, being used as part of the cutter blade pull system makes the saw always conveniently available to be pivoted to proper angle of saw direction and clamped to the cutter blade in this position for saw pruning and yet eliminates an awkward outward projection when it's not used for saw pruning. The twist type of blade return coil spring used also reduces any awkward projection.

  • Patent number: 4031621
Abstract: A hand tool, such as a pruner, has two pivotally movable members which are biassed open by a spring. A catch, for locking the tool in the closed position, is fitted into a non-circular aperture in a part of one of the members which overlaps the other member, the shank of the catch being undercut to allow the catch to rotate in the aperture, but prevent its withdrawal from the aperture except in the rotational position in which it was inserted into the aperture. A detent is provided, for rotation by the catch to engage and lock the members together. The member containing the catch is so shaped that the detent can be fitted to or withdrawn from the catch only in a position in which the shank of the catch is locked in the member. Consequently, so long as the detent remains in position in the catch, the catch cannot be removed.
