Abstract: A cover assembly includes an expanded elastomeric tube supported in the expanded state by an internal frangible support core. The support core possesses sufficient strength to resist contraction of the tube but will break upon the addition of relatively little additional external force. Breakage of the core allows the tube to contract and securely cover and seal to the object to which the cover assembly is applied.

Abstract: A centering support for a double containment pipe assembly of an inner pipe located within an outer pipe, has a first half defining a first surface substantially conforming to the outer surface of the inner pipe, and a second half defining a second surface substantially conforming to the outer surface of the inner pipe. The first and second surfaces are seated on the outside surface of the inner pipe, and the first and second halves are coupled together by at least one fastening member for coupling the centering support to the inner pipe.
Abstract: Pipe closure device with opposing dual mandrels has external conical surfaces which cooperate with internal conical surfaces of segmented rigid wall engagement member. Rotation of threaded shaft causes relative axial movement of dual mandrels and effects outward radial motion of rigid wall engagement members and outward motion of elastomeric seal, securing device to wall of pipe and sealing pipe closed. Rotation of shaft in opposite direction releases elastomeric seal and rigid wall engagement members from pipe wall. Inflatable seal seals against inside wall of pipe when inflated. Shaft is rotated by air-powered motor which is insertable and attachable into sealed receiver without use of tools.
Abstract: A metallic sleeve for bridging a leakage point on a pipe is expanded onto the inner wall surface of the pipe with the aid of an expansion technique. During the expansion process, a gap of approximately 5 to 10 .mu.m occurs between the pipe and the sleeve due to the elastic resilience of the deformed materials. In order to prevent leakage through this gap, the peripheral surface of the end regions of the sleeve carry a component made of a shape-memory alloy which forms a seal between the sleeve and the pipe when a given temperature is reached. The sleeve is used primarily during the repair of heat exchanger tubes.
Abstract: A method and kit is provided for temporarily blocking the bore of a pipe through which a fluid flows, the kit including an expansible flexible bag seal which is inserted through a hole provided in the wall of the pipe injecting into the bag seal. A quantity of a material adapted to expand in situ in the bag seal and inflate the bag seal to seal against the inside of the pipe is injected into the bag seal. The pipe may be a gas main and the material may be an expandable synthetic resin foam. The bag seal is removed by injecting thereinto a substance capable of dissolving the foam so that the bag seal can be at least partially deflated.
Abstract: Thin metal adaptor rings fit over the elastomeric seal rings holding an orifice plate within a fitting. The thin metal rings have an inside diameter equal to the inside diameter of the pipe line and fitting. Therefore, the inside diameter is maintained without variations as previously resulted from protrusion or recess tolerances of the elastomeric seal rings. The seal ring is modified with notches to hold the thin metal adaptor rings in the desired position.

Abstract: An assembly for closing a pipe mouth comprising a mouthpiece connected to a pipe mouth, and a stopper having an axially projecting portion which is adapted for insertion into the mouthpiece. The stopper includes a lock which is operable by a key, and such that in the released position, the stopper can be moved into and out of the mouthpiece with the key securely connected to the lock, and in the locked position the stopper is retained in the mouthpiece and the key may be removed. Abstract: A flow conditioner for providing a relatively ideal flow profile when used in a fluid conduit upstream from an orifice meter comprises a bundle of parallel tubes including a central tube having the largest diameter in the range of 0.2 to 0.5 times the conduit internal diameter. Abstract: A security hydrant cap having a domed body adapted to be removed only with a specialized tool, and a slip ring surrounding substantially all of the body and mounted thereto so as to be free to rotate about the body. The slip ring and, preferably, the body are formed of stainless steel. Abstract: A hose assembly (10) is of the type for carrying high pressure fluids therethrough. The hose assembly (10) includes a tubular member (11) and a pair of coupling members (20). The tubular member (11) includes an inner liner (12) of a fluorocarbon polymer. Yarns (15) fabricated from fibers (17), including glass fibers and aramid fibers (19), are braided together about the exterior of the inner liner (12) to form a braided layer (13). The assembly (10) further includes an outer fluorocarbon coating (14) dispersed throughout the braided layer (13) to prevent kinking or permanent deformation in the inner liner (12), in addition to preventing the crushing of the yarns (15) when the ends are crimped to receive the coupling members (20). A conductive strip (16) is formed on the inner liner (12) for dissipating electrical charges which may accumulate in the inner liner (12).
Abstract: A thin wall mild carbon steel pipe for pumping concrete has a wall which has an internal diameter of five inches and a wall thickness in the range of 0.170 to 0.200. The composition of the pipe wall by weight is in percentages ranges of 0.27 to 0.34 carbon, 0.30 to 0.60 manganese, less than 0.30 silicon with only traces of phosphorus and sulfur. The pipe has an inner hardened wall portion of RC reading of about 60 and of a thickness in the range of 0.04 to 0.06 inches and a gradual transition in hardness therefrom to an outer ductile wall reading of about 30 RC. The unhardened mild carbon steel pipe is processed by progressively and successively heating axially annular portions of the pipe to a hardening temperature of 1650.degree. F. A quenching brine solution at a temperature below 50.degree. F. is immediately sprayed at a high velocity onto the progressively heated surface to reduce the temperature of the inner wall essentially instantaneously to the temperature of the brine solution.
Abstract: A stopper plug and method for making the same. A reinforcement spider is integrally laminated within a multi-layered plug formed from several plies of elastomeric and unidirectional reinforcement. The spider cooperates with end plates such that expansion of the plug causes both longitudinal contraction of the plug and radial expansion while concomitantly increasing the force by which the end plates are attached to the plug preventing delamination at that juncture. Two forms of plug are shown. One has capped endwalls provided with nipple outlets and one is provided with a throughflow central passageway.
Abstract: A rigid fiber glass air duct for conveying an airstream has an interior surface, adapted to be in contact with the airstream, which is coated with a polymeric coating with an organic biocide. The polymeric coating has a dry solids content of between 10 and 20 grams per square foot of duct board surface and retains its abrasion strength and puncture resistance whereby the interior surface of the duct can be cleaned by conventional industrial or commercial cleaning methods while in service without exposing glass fibers to the airstream.

Abstract: A device for fit testing facepiece respirators is presented. In accordance with the present invention, a testing probe is installed in the facepiece of a respirator during fit testing. In a first embodiment, the probe of this invention is installed in the front or side port of the facepiece after the filter element, valve or breathing tube assembly has been removed. The probe comprises a threaded plug adapted for installation into the front port of a respirator and a male hose connector mounted through a hole located at about the center of the plug. In a second embodiment of this invention, a fit testing probe is installed in one of the side or front ports of the facepiece respirator after the exhalation valve or filter element assembly has been removed therefrom. In this latter embodiment, the probe comprises a spool shape plug adapted for installation into the side port.
