    Abstract: A tilting mechanism (1), preferably for a chair seat or similar article, comprises a rigid element (2) which, via a mounting means (3), can be attached to a chair base (4), a supporting means (6) adapted to the chair seat and pivotably connected in relation to said mounting means (3), resilient means (8a, 8b) so arranged between the supporting means (6) and the rigid plate (2) that the supporting means (6) can be tilted in relation to said rigid plate (2) under the influence of the resilient means (8a, 8b), as well as locking means (20, 21, 24) for adjusting the seat supporting means (6) to various tilting positions. To achieve a compact tilting mechanism offering separate or individual tightening of the tilting stiffness in the forward direction and the rearward direction without changing the seat angle in relation to the neutral it is, suggested that at least one of the resilient means (8a, 8b) be displaced in relation to the tilting shaft (5) of the supporting means (6).

    Abstract: To permit constructing flexible belt-rack longitudinal-movement structures of substantial length, not subject to vibration, and inexpensively built, the rack (3) is cast integrally with a slab (2) of plastic concrete. A stiffening rib (33) can be provided in the slab, preferably at the side remote from the movable machine element (7), and preferably formed with a through-bore to attach a tension rod therethrough, so that a plurality of such slabs can be longitudinally connected together. Guide rails (5) are located at the sides of the slab, on which slide bearings (6) are located which, in turn, support a movable carriage, movable along the bed. The carriage carries the drive motor (17) which drives a gear belt (22) for engagement with the rack.

    Abstract: A seat and backrest combination device formed of contoured, rigid panels which are retained within a slipcover formed of a specially shaped stretchable cloth material. The slipcover is shaped in a "saddlebag" design, having a pair of pockets each of which has a front and rear face, the front faces of the two pockets being joined by a single strip extending for substantially the entire width of the slipcover. The slipcover thus provides a flexible member which allows for interplay between the seat panel rear edge and the back panel lower edge. By appropriate adjustment, the user is provided with a maximum degree of seating comfort, while the benefits of the orthopedic design are not sacrificed. For example, the back panel lower edge may be placed upon or behind the seat panel rear edge, and this is made possible by the stretchable fabric material used to construct the slipcover.

    Abstract: Continuously adjustable pivoted hinge, such as employed for automotive vehicle recliner seat back, wherein a toothed sector on one hinge element is retained by a toothed pawl on the other which has freedom of mounting connection at least equal to the pitch of one tooth in order to accommodate full tooth engagement for any continuously variable relative position of the sector. A pair of pivotally anchored cam elements engage angularly related cam surfaces on the pawl after its full tooth engagement with the sector. Variable travel of cam surface to accommodate fully engaged prepositioned pawl with self-locking angle resisting pawl displacement in either angular direction from sector tooth pressure, is sufficient to accommodate at least one tooth displacement of the pawl in order to lock the pawl in any position of initial full tooth engagement. The pawl is pivotally mounted at the hinge pivot with a radial slot to accommodate tooth disengagement.

    Abstract: A protective seat for children traveling in a vehicle is provided with a visor that shields a child from excessive incident light and from flying objects in the event of a collision or sudden stop. Preferably, the visor is constructed of transparent, high-impact plastic that is tinted to reduce the amount of sunlight that can pass therethrough. The visor is U-shaped to have a central portion extending transversely across the protective seat and a pair of downwardly depending end portions mounted by a trunnion pin hinge to the lateral side edges of the child support shell. The position of the visor is pivotally adjustable and position lock elements and limit stops may be provided. The visor may be formed as original structure on the protective seat or as a retro-fit apparatus including mounting brackets that may be fastened to the protective seat thus providing the visor mounts.

    Abstract: A bushing assembly for use in a hinge for an automotive vehicle seat assembly comprises a pair of identical interlocking sleeves, each having a pair of opposing tangs extending in an axial direction from an annular portion. Each of the tang portions has a shoulder which is radially outwardly directed and is deflectable. The shoulders on the tang portions engage corresponding recessed ledges on the interior wall of the annular portion of the opposite sleeve so as to snap fit together to form an integral bushing assembly through which a hinge pin is passed. The bushing assembly is positioned around the hinge pin and between the hinge pin and the frame members of the vehicle seat assembly to allow rotation of the upright back of the seat. The sleeves may also be stacked together such that each of the tang portions snap into engagement with the annular portions of the adjacent sleeve to form a flexible bushing assembly of variable length.

    Abstract: Packed transportable furniture has a foldable reversible furniture frame which has a container mode and a frame mode. In the container mode the foldable reversible furniture frame is in the form of a box and the outside surfaces of the box are made of corrugated paper, fiberboard or the like. In the frame mode the foldable reversible furniture frame forms the frame of a chair or sofa with the outside surfaces being covered with foam or bonded polyester padding. The packed transportable furniture has honeycomb supports for structural support, padded back and seat platforms, a slip cover and cushions. These are packed inside the foldable reversible furniture frame in the container mode for shipment. Provision is provided for keeping the slip cover tight by either having holes in the bottom of the foldlable reversible furniture frame or hooks placed in eyelets located on the honeycomb supports through which slip cover draw strings are tied.
