  • Patent number: 11494970
Abstract: A bounce light map for a scene is determined for use in rendering the scene in a graphics processing system. Initial lighting indications representing lighting within the scene are determined. For a texel position of the bounce light map, the initial lighting indications are sampled using an importance sampling technique to identify positions within the scene. Sampling rays are traced between a position in the scene corresponding to the texel position of the bounce light map and the respective identified positions with the scene. A lighting value is determined for the texel position of the bounce light map using results of the tracing of the sampling rays. By using the importance sampling method described herein, the rays which are traced are more likely to be directed towards more important regions of the scene which contribute more to the lighting of a texel.

  • Patent number: 11482191
Abstract: A User-centric Enhanced Pathway (UEP) system may provide vehicle pathway guidance while driving using an augmented reality display system in the event of sun glare. The system uses a route observer module programmed to predict sun glare, by obtaining real-time information about the interior and exterior vehicle environment, heading, speed, and other data. The route observer module may also use an inward-facing camera to determine when the driver is squinting, which may increase the probability function that predicts when the driver is experiencing sun glare. When sun glare is predicted, the route observer sends the weighted prediction function and input signals to a decision module that uses vehicle speed, location, and user activity to determine appropriate guidance output for an enhanced pathway using an Augmented Reality (AR) module. The AR module may adjust brightness, contrast, and color of the AR information based on observed solar glare.

  • Patent number: 11478679
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a distortion-free pool-surface display beneath a swimmer. In one embodiment, projectors are positioned below a water level at opposite walls of a pool, and are configured to project images to a display surface at the bottom of the pool beneath a swimmer. A camera is used to view images projected by the projectors and to provide corresponding image data to an image correction platform on a graphics processing unit (GPU). The image correction platform identifies distortions in the images, generates image corrections that counter the identified distortions, and applies the corrections to subsequently projected images. The image correction platform also generates image adjustment that cause overlapping portions of the projected images to match seamlessly. The projected images may provide immersive experiences, coaching/training interfaces or other interactive displays.

  • Patent number: 11470303
Abstract: The inventive method involves receiving as input a representation of an ordered set of two dimensional images. The ordered set of two dimensional images is analyzed to determine at least one first view of an object in at least two dimensions and at least one motion vector. The next step is analyzing the combination of the first view of the object in at least two dimensions, the motion vector, and the ordered set of two dimensional images to determine at least a second view of the object; generating a three dimensional representation of the ordered set of two dimensional images on the basis of at least the first view of the object and the second view of the object. Finally, the method involves providing indicia of the three dimensional representation as an output.

  • Patent number: 11450077
Abstract: Appearance driven automatic three-dimensional (3D) modeling enables optimization of a 3D model comprising the shape and appearance of a particular 3D scene or object. Triangle meshes and shading models may be jointly optimized to match the appearance of a reference 3D model based on reference images of the reference 3D model. Compared with the reference 3D model, the optimized 3D model is a lower resolution 3D model that can be rendered in less time. More specifically, the optimized 3D model may include fewer geometric primitives compared with the reference 3D model. In contrast with the conventional inverse rendering or analysis-by-synthesis modeling tools, the shape and appearance representations of the 3D model are automatically generated that, when rendered, match the reference images.

  • Patent number: 11398073
Abstract: An internet or cloud-based system, method, or platform (“platform”) used to facilitate the conversion of electronic two-dimensional drawings to three-dimensional models. A group of people (“crowd”) that has been found qualified to make such conversions, are selected for the conversion. The two-dimensional drawings are transmitted to the crowd for conversion to three-dimensional models. In some embodiments, multiple instances of the same two-dimensional drawings (or image data) is sent to multiple, independent crowd members in order that multiple versions of the same three-dimensional model can be created. Once the models are complete and returned, they are compared to each other on multiple features or characteristics. If two or more three-dimensional models are found to match within the prescribed tolerances, they are determined to be an accurate representation of the product or device shown in the two-dimensional drawings.
