  • Patent number: 8257624
Abstract: A method for making a porous material, includes melt-blending two or more non-miscible polymers to obtain a co-continuous melt, solidifying the melt to obtain a solid mass consisting of two co-continuous polymer phases, and selectively extracting one of the co-continuous phases thereby creating within the solid mass an essentially continuous pore network having an internal surface. The method further includes replicating the internal surface of the pore network within the solid mass by coating the internal surface with successive layers of materials, and selectively extracting the solid mass without extracting the layers of materials, to thereby yield the product porous material, formed of the layers of materials. The material has a void fraction higher than about 75%, and mainly having essentially fully interconnected sheath-like non-spherical pores and essentially non-fibrous walls.

  • Patent number: 7452492
Abstract: A method of fabricating a magnetic coder device, the method being of the type consisting in making a mixture of ferromagnetic particles or ferrites in a matrix, in molding the matrix, and in subjecting the molded matrix to a magnetic field so as to obtain a continuous alternation of north and south magnetic poles, which method consists in using a matrix having viscosity that is sufficiently low to enable the ferrites to migrate, in applying a magnetic field during the molding operation while maintaining the matrix at a given temperature in order to reduce its viscosity and thereby making it easier to cause the ferromagnetic particles to migrate and become oriented in their direction of easy magnetization, and to obtain discontinuous shapes having high particle concentration, and in suddenly cooling the matrix while the magnetic field is maintained so as to freeze the particles in the matrix.

  • Patent number: 7364684
Abstract: A method of making a fluid cooled microelectronic package in which fluid is circulated through the package in fluid-carrying channels defined at least in part by voids in an encapsulant that surrounds the package components. Preferably, the encapsulant channels are defined in part by heat producing components of the package so that coolant fluid directly contacts such components. The coolant fluid can be electrically conductive or non-conductive depending on the type of components being cooled. The coolant channels are formed by insert-molding a form in the encapsulant, and removing the form following the molding process. Alternately, the encapsulant is formed in two or more pieces that are joined to form the package, and the coolant channels are defined by recesses formed in at least one of the encapsulant pieces.
