Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing unified access to interactive media applications and services in a network. In one embodiment, the network comprises a content-based network such as a cable television or satellite network, and the applications are disposed at the network headend. A servlet is provided to facilitate communication between the applications and client devices. The servlet acts as a proxy for applications utilizing a different content format than the client devices. The applications obtain data from e.g., an internet host server via a gateway device. The client application(s) may comprise Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) pages, and are configured so as to permit use via a common interface (e.g., the user's set top box and television display). These client applications enable a user to, for example, search the internet for data relating to displayed content, post and navigate micro-blogs, instant messaging or SMS, making telephone calls (e.g.

  • Patent number: 10153875
Abstract: Various aspects are described relating to wireless communications of a second type of traffic data for small data transmissions. A first indication of control channel resources can be received from a network entity, wherein the control channel resources are defined by a radio access technology to include control data associated with a first type of traffic data. A control channel can be received from the network entity over the control channel resources, wherein the control channel includes a second type of traffic data, wherein the second type of traffic data includes a comparatively smaller data payload than the first type of traffic data. The second type of traffic data can be decoded from the control channel without decoding control data from the control channel.

  • Patent number: 10104689
Abstract: A first wireless device determines the duration of a clear channel assessment interval based on feedback signals before transmitting data to a second wireless device. The first wireless device receives feedback signals, such as acknowledgement (ACK) and negative acknowledgement (NAK) signals, from one or more second wireless devices. The first wireless device determines a ratio of NAK/ACK signals in the feedback signals for a predetermined amount of time. The first wireless device determines whether the wireless medium is free by monitoring for wireless signals during a clear channel assessment interval. The duration of the clear channel assessment interval is based on the ratio of NAK/ACK signals. If the wireless medium is free for the duration of the clear channel assessment, the first wireless device wirelessly transmits data to at least one of the second wireless devices.

  • Patent number: 9820239
Abstract: Power allocation for encoded bits in OFDM systems. OFDM symbol subcarriers may be allocated to a wireless user equipment (UE) device by a base station. A first portion of the allocated subcarriers may include systematic bits and a second portion of the allocated subcarriers may include parity bits according to a coding scheme. Transmit power may be unevenly allocated to the subcarriers allocated to the UE, such that subcarriers including systematic bits are allocated different power than the subcarriers including parity bits. The OFDM symbols including the subcarriers allocated to the UE may be transmitted to the UE by the base station according to the allocated power distribution.

  • Patent number: 9813931
Abstract: In some examples, an apparatus may be usable in a first network and configurable to operate within a proximity of a second network that communicates traffic that interferes with data communication in the first network. The apparatus may include a calculation module configured to calculate a packet loss rate. The apparatus may include a determination module coupled to the calculation module and configured to determine whether the packet loss rate exceeds a particular threshold level. The apparatus may include a preamble module coupled to the determination module and configured to dynamically adjust a number of protective bytes included in a packet preamble in response to a determination by the determination module that the packet loss rate exceeds the particular threshold level. The protective bytes may be effective to reduce packet corruption due to turnaround time collisions between packets communicated in the first network and traffic communicated in the second network.

  • Patent number: 9781032
Abstract: In general, techniques are described for configuring a provider edge (PE) network device of an Ethernet virtual private network (EVPN) to use a common traffic engineering label (e.g., MPLS label) for different EVPN route types associated with the same EVPN. In some examples, the techniques include sending a first layer three (L3) control plane message that indicates a label-switched network protocol label that corresponds to a first EVPN route type, wherein the first L3 control plane message indicates that a first PE network device is reachable in the L2 segment. The techniques may include performing L2 address learning to determine at least one L2 address associated with the layer two segment of the EVPN. The techniques may include sending a second L3 control plane message that indicates the same label included in the first L3 control plane message corresponds to a second EVPN route type.

  • Patent number: 9769290
Abstract: Technologies for packet flow classification on a computing device include a hash table including a plurality of hash table buckets in which each hash table bucket maps a plurality of keys to corresponding traffic flows. The computing device performs packet flow classification on received data packets, where the packet flow classification includes a plurality of sequential classification stages and fetch classification operations and non-fetch classification operations are performed in each classification stage. The fetch classification operations include to prefetch a key of a first received data packet based on a set of packet fields of the first received data packet for use during a subsequent classification stage, prefetch a hash table bucket from the hash table based on a key signature of the prefetched key for use during another subsequent classification stage, and prefetch a traffic flow to be applied to the first received data packet based on the prefetched hash table bucket and the prefetched key.

  • Patent number: 9756553
Abstract: A method and system provide assisted acquisition of a wireless link between user equipment and a femtocell unit. After an initial calibration of timing and/or frequency information, the user equipment enters into a low-power state. The femtocell unit monitors for system updates using a network listen module that sniffs the air interface of one or more neighboring cells. Upon a trigger event, the femtocell unit provides aiding information, for example, timing and/or frequency information corresponding to a change in timing and/or frequency of the air interface, over a second radio, e.g., a wireless personal area network interface. Thus, the user equipment may remain in the low-power state and receive updates with respect to the wireless wide area network interface. Subsequently, upon wake-up, the user equipment may utilize the aiding information, for example, to recalibrate its timing and/or frequency. Thus, acquisition of the wireless link with the femtocell unit may be expedited.
