  • Patent number: 6887152
Abstract: A lotto game having a jackpot prize level and at least one subordinate prize level and which is played simultaneously in a plurality of jurisdictions or countries. A fixed amount from each ticket sold in all partner countries/jurisdictions is accumulated in a super prize pool that is split by winners in more than one prize level. The amount of the jackpot prize, the subordinate prizes, and the ticket prices can be different in each participating jurisdiction. These prizes are made pari-mutuel and are gauged relative to a fictional or reference currency. A determination made of each prize level for each jurisdiction as per the rules set by that jurisdiction is made in the reference currency, adjustments are made to normalize the prize back to a local currency, and prizes are awarded on a pari-mutuel basis for each prize level.

  • Patent number: 6824467
Abstract: A video gaming machine simulates a real physical game, such as pachinko, by providing a mathematical model of the game including rules governing movement of an object placed in motion in accordance with a set of initial conditions. A pay table for the game is developed by creating a list of outcomes, assigning a probability of occurrence to each outcome, assigning a win amount to each outcome, and determining a pay table percentage by multiplying each outcome's probability of occurrence by its win amount and summing the products for all of the outcomes in the list. Creation of the list of outcomes and assignment of probabilities of occurrence may be effected by a Monte Carlo test. The game is played by randomly selecting a set of initial conditions and running them through the model.

  • Patent number: 6457975
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for training a person to learn a cognitive/functional task that requires a sequence of decisions and a corresponding sequence of actions. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a cognitive/functional task is decomposed into critical elements and non-critical elements. The critical elements have distinguishing features and are essential to the cognitive/functional task. The critical and non-critical elements are presented to a trainee in a predetermined sequence in a simulated environment through, for example, a virtual reality device. The trainee is trained to act in accordance with the critical and non-critical elements presented. Furthermore, a data processing system is used to monitor the actions taken by the trainee in the simulated environment in response to the presented critical and non-critical elements. Moreover, the learning receptivity and learning achievement by the trainee is measured via a brain wave detection device.

  • Patent number: 6425827
Abstract: The objective of the present invention is to provide a game machine and an information storage medium that make it possible to intensify the dramatic effect of a game by the voices sounded by a character. The pitch, volume, or tone of each voice sounded by characters (20) and (22) is varied in accordance with a physical strength parameter, the remaining play time, the progressing degree through game stages, or a number of wins. The pitch and volume of a voice sounded by a character increase as an opponent's physical strength parameter becomes larger, the remaining play time decreases, the final game stage approaches, or the opponent's number of wins becomes larger. The pitch, volume, or tone of voices is varied after the remaining play time has reached a given value or a given game stage has been passed. The increase in pitch of a voice sounded by a character is a whole tone or less.

  • Patent number: 6409602
Abstract: A computer gaming system and method of operation thereof are provided that both drastically reduce the cost of gaming stations and allow contemporaneous access to multiple game programs from a single gaming station. The computer gaming system of the present invention allows for transparent modifications and upgrades to the gaming programs by executing gaming programs on a server/host computer connected to a plurality of client/terminal computers via communication pathways. Each client/terminal computer comprises a client/terminal program that allows input and output streams of the gaming program executed on the server/host computer to be separated and redirected to the client/terminal computers. Since the gaming programs are executed entirely on the server/host computer, with only wagering input and display output operations being executed on the client/terminal computers, the cost of the hardware and software required for each client/terminal computer is greatly reduced.

  • Patent number: 6409598
Abstract: A method of blurred drawing processing for three-dimensional computer image processing and a computer readable program product storing a program and video game system for the same are provided which display a virtual three-dimensional space on a screen having the effect of a depth of field free from an unnatural feeling without increasing the load of the blurred drawing processing. That is, the effect is achieved without increasing the number of steps of blurring degree given in the depth direction of the virtual three-dimensional space. The invention converts a three-dimensional image to a two-dimensional image, and acquires depth data showing a depth position in the virtual three-dimensional space of the two-dimensional image. The invention also repeatedly performs blurring processing for blurring the two-dimensional image at the deeper side from a threshold value for each of a plurality of threshold values set in steps in the depth direction of the virtual three-dimensional space.
