  • Patent number: 4663843
Abstract: A shaving razor utilizes a trailing blade aligned along the longitudinal axis of the razor's shaving head for trimming and at least one leading blade for primary shaving. The cutting edge of the leading blade is aligned diagonally to the cutting edge of the trailing blade and therefore slices through the hair or beard at a different angle of attack than does a conventional blade, thereby reducing drag and yielding a smoother shave.

  • Patent number: 4663845
Abstract: A knife holder for a utility knife is disclosed comprising an elongated case forming a blade opening at the forward end and an interior guide for guiding a blade carrier and a blade carrier adapted for mounting a blade and being slidably mounted to the guide for selective longitudinal movement between a retracted sheathed position and an extended unsheathed position. The blade carrier has outwardly extending flanges for supporting a blade and a retainer tab for laterally retaining the rearward portion of the blade and the case has a retainer protrusion at the blade opening for laterally retaining the forward end of the blade so that the retainer tab and the retainer protrusion coact to retain the blade to stabilize the blade during usage.

  • Patent number: 4662070
Abstract: A floor covering cutter for cutting floor coverings such as carpets, has a shell handle (3) consisting of several parts and a cutting blade (6) that is gripped with its cutting head at an angle of deployment with respect to the longitudinal axis of the shell handle between the shell parts of the handle that are connected with a screw. They enclose a storage area (12) for spare blades on the inside and present a gripping contour on the outside. The cutting blade is positioned with its cutting head at a slight forward angle of deployment with respect to the theoretical mid longitudinal axis (7) of the handle shell, while the handle shell, on the end opposite from the cutting blade (6), presents a steadily expanding outer cross-section (4) with flattened contours in the area adjoining the gripping surface (3). In the storage area (12) are kept blades standing on one edge. The two shell parts (1,2) are connected by a joint and held together by a knurled screw (10).

  • Patent number: 4662069
Abstract: A tool having parallel cutting blades for cutting matching seam edges from two pieces of material, such as two pieces of carpet. The tool is comprised of an insulative housing having a pair of rotatable cutting blades disposed on opposite sides thereof in substantially parallel relationship; an adjustable guide mechanism disposed adjacent to each of the cutting blades for holding the material to be cut in proper alignment with the cutting blades; and a base member on which the housing is mounted. An electric motor is disposed inside the housing for rotating the cutting blades via a worm gear mechanism. The guide mechanism preferably includes a spring-mounted shaft, which is adjustable in a vertical direction to provide the proper spacing between upper and lower members of the guide mechanism, in accordance with the thickness of the material to be cut.

  • Patent number: 4660287
Abstract: A knive having a tubular handle and provided with an open end for receiving a pair of blade clamping members in the form of leaf springs, one of the leaf springs being longer than the other leaf spring and having a projecting tab for insertion into a hole in the shank of a blade to be coupled to the handle. The inner end of the longer leaf spring is coupled to a slidable member having a knob projecting through and movable longitudinally of a slot in the handle. Movement of the slide member in one direction causes the projecting tab on the longer leaf spring to become exposed for coupling the blade shank to the leaf spring. Movement of the slide member in the opposite direction causes the longer leaf spring to be retracted fully into the handle so that the blade will be centered between the two leaf springs while projecting outwardly from the handle to expose the cutting edge of the blade.

  • Patent number: 4660283
Abstract: A dynamically balanced apparatus having a reciprocating member includes an eccentric shaft operatively connected to a motor output shaft, and a drive member operatively connecting the eccentric shaft to the reciprocating member for driving the reciprocating member upon rotation of the eccentric shaft. An eccentric flyweight is mounted on the output shaft to be rotatable therewith for canceling the vibration or inertia force developed by the motion of the reciprocating member. Also included in the apparatus is a vibrator also driven by the eccentric shaft to vibrate in a direction perpendicular to the reciprocating direction. For eliminating the vibration inherently arising from the rotation of the eccentric shaft and acting in the direction perpendicular to the reciprocating direction, at least one counterweight is carried on the vibrator to be movable therewith for canceling such inherent vibration in the direction questioned.

  • Patent number: 4656739
Abstract: A bump-actuable filament feed for vegetation trimmers; when the cutting length of filament breaks or wears short, the user without interrupting cutting simply bumps the cutting head on the ground deploying a fresh cutting-length of filament. Bumping causes a spring-restored spool latch to yield an increment of spool rotation, feeding a corresponding increment of filament from the spool. For replenishing the filament supply when exhausted, the spool snaps out in one embodiment on pressing a button, and a fresh spool as easily snaps into place. For applications in which bumping the cutting head against the ground is not desired an analogous operation is provided by adaptation of the basic structure.

  • Patent number: 4646405
Abstract: A handle for use in connection with tool tangs of a wide variety of sizes and shapes includes a handle body molded of a plastic material and formed with a main blind bore whose end wall is formed with a centering bore of smaller diameter. The main blind bore serves for receiving tapering tangs of largest cross section, or a tubular insert. The insert has a first axial bore opening at one end of the insert and a second axial blind bore opening at the other end of the insert. The end walls of the first and second blind bores are interconnected by a passsage of reduced diameter. The jacket of the insert is split by an axially directed slot so as to facilitate plugging of the insert into the main blind bore in the handle body. The inner surface of the main blind bore and the outer surface of the insert are knurled to prevent rotation of the insert.
