Abstract: A method includes selecting a model for a simulation of hydrocarbon recovery from a reservoir having a plurality of fractures during injection of an injected gas into the plurality of fractures. Selecting the model includes determining a flux ratio of a convection rate to a diffusion rate for the reservoir, determining whether the flux ratio is less than a threshold, and in response to the flux ratio being less than the threshold, selecting the model that includes diffusion. Selecting the model includes performing the simulation of the hydrocarbon recovery from the reservoir based on the model.
Abstract: An asphaltic sealant composition and method which use (a) the incorporation of one or more pigment and/or UV absorbing materials, (b) a low shear production method, and (c) the addition of an epoxidized ester of a vegetable oil or a plasticizer, effective for increasing the degree of dispersion of the pigment material in the sealant composition, to provide improve resistance to UV radiation.

Abstract: The present invention provides a fiber-reinforced cement composition comprising; cement, fiber, silica, filler, expanded perlite, and polymer. The fiber-reinforced cement composition according to the present invention has low density, high toughness and flexural strength, and not contains volatile composition. When it is molded into workpiece, the workpiece is lightweight, easy to be cut and/or lathed into desired shapes, drilled and fixed with screws and/or repeatedly nailed at the same position, tolerant to humidity, termites and insects, inflammable and does not produce powder when cut, drilled and/or lathed that is hazardous to the workers. Therefore, it is suitably applicable for being utilized as a material for manufacturing furniture parts.
Abstract: A biocide testing system includes test columns, a bypass tube, control valves, and a control system. Each test column includes biocide test coupons. The bypass tube is fluidly coupled to each of the test columns. Each control valve is coupled between a respective test column and the bypass tube. The control system performs operations including: controlling the control valves to fluidly couple the test columns to a water source; controlling a pump to circulate water from the water source into the test columns to immerse each test coupon in water; controlling the control valves to fluidly isolate the test columns from the water source and to fluidly isolate each test column from the other test columns; controlling a particular control valve to fluidly couple a particular test column to a biocide source; and controlling the pump to circulate biocide from the biocide source into the particular test column to immerse the test coupons in the particular test column in biocide.

Abstract: A method of repairing a well is provided. The method includes injecting a brine solution into the well, injecting carbon dioxide into the well, and reacting the brine solution in the reservoir rock with the carbon dioxide to form calcite such that calcite precipitates into the desired flow path between a cold well and a hot well to effectively repair short circuits within the EGS reservoir.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a gas hydrate inhibitor that includes from 1 to 99% by weight of an alcohol, from 1 to 99% by weight of a polyol, from 0.01 to 2.0% by weight of an organic acid, and from 1 to 99% by weight of water. The gas hydrate inhibitor is useful in preventing and/or removing hydrates in a fluid to ensure a continuous flow of the fluid.
Abstract: Described herein are treated polymers comprising a polyacrylamide homopolymer or a copolymer thereof having at least 30 mol % acrylamide residue content and a weight average molecular weight in the range of 1×105 g/mol to 1×108 g/mol, and 0.1 wt % to 10 wt % of a C1-C6 alkyl ricinoleate based on the weight of the mixture of polymer and alkyl ricinoleate. The polymers are in powder form and include less than about 30 wt % water based on the powder weight. The treated polymer powders dissolve rapidly in water and develop very little or even no insoluble gel upon diluting with water, even when the water is produced water or connate. The treated polymer solutions are useful for in-the-field rapid dilution for applications such as papermaking, flocculation, beneficiation, wastewater treatment, and enhanced oil recovery.

Abstract: A method for modifying surface wettability of a surface of a solid substrate may include contacting the surface of the solid substrate with a brine solution containing carbon nanodots. The carbon nanodots may have carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen as constituent elements and may include one or more functional groups disposed at outer surfaces of the carbon nanodots. The brine solution has a salinity of greater than 30,000 TDS. A concentration of carbon nanodots in the brine solution is less than or equal to 500 ppmw. Contacting the solid substrate with the brine solution comprising the carbon nanodots is characterized by a contact duration, a contact volume, or both, that is sufficient to reduce the oil wettability of the surface of the solid substrate by at least 15%, as defined by a contact angle of a crude oil droplet contacted with the surface of the solid substrate.

Abstract: Technical fields of building external wall decoration and material manufacturing, providing a mildewproof and antirot high-strength cement particle board and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method includes: (1) sequentially carbonizing and water-washing a shaving, and mixing the obtained carbonized shaving with a cement gelling agent, a curing agent aqueous solution and water to obtain a mixture; (2) molding the mixture to obtain a pre-molded material; and (3) sequentially curing and drying the pre-molded material to obtain the mildewproof and antirot high-strength cement particle board. Compared to ordinary cement particle board, which is not subjected to carbonization treatment and water-washing, the cement particle board of the present invention can effectively avoid mildew and rot, and can significantly improve the mechanical strength and durability thereof, helping to extend the service life of the cement particle board.

Abstract: A non-aqueous slurry contains a non-aqueous liquid immiscible in water (such as a hydrocarbon based oil) having dispersed therein a crosslinking agent (such as a borate crosslinking agent) and an oil-wetting surface active material. The non-aqueous slurry further contains an organophilic clay. The non-aqueous slurry, when used in an aqueous fracturing fluid, provides crosslinking delay between the crosslinking agent and a hydratable polymer, such as guar or guar derivatives. The aqueous fracturing fluid provides an enhanced fracture network after being pumped into a well.
Abstract: A fireplace surround structure is disclosed. The fireplace surround structure includes a mantel portion, a first vertical leg portion and a second vertical leg portion. The first leg portion and the second leg portion extend downward from the mantel portion at opposite ends to form a unitary fireplace surround structure. Each leg portion has a skeletal bar frame with a plurality of bar portions defining a three sided generally rectangular structure. Each of the sides has a lightweight non-combustible board portion attached on the exterior of the frame. The fireplace surround structure is open to one side and mountable on a wall surface. Each board portion is cast from a mix of Portland cement, silica, and cellulose fibers, which are combined and sintered into a flat board structure.

Abstract: A method for forming a super-insulating material for a vacuum insulated structure includes disposing glass spheres within a rotating drum. A plurality of interstitial spaces are defined between the glass spheres. A binder material is disposed within the rotating drum. The glass spheres and the at least one binder material are rotated within the rotating drum, wherein the binder material is mixed during a first mixing stage with the glass spheres. A first insulating material is disposed within the rotating drum. The binder material, the first insulating material and the glass spheres are mixed to define an insulating base. A second insulating material is disposed within the rotating drum. The secondary insulating material is mixed with the insulating base to define a homogenous form of the super-insulating material, wherein the first and second insulating materials occupy substantially all of the interstitial spaces.
