    Abstract: A device for mounting a gas spring for opening the hatch door or the like of an automobile which is produced by helically winding one elastic wire is described. The gas spring mounting device includes a mounting end, which is helically wound with the same pitch as the diameter of the wire for rotatable fitting onto a bolt anchored at either the door mounting base of the car or the door itself; a flexible portion, which is helically wound with a slightly larger pitch than the diameter of the wire and having an axis at a right angle with respect to the axis of said mounting end; and a gas spring connecting portion which is wound with the same pitch as the diameter of the wire for connection to a thread formed in the end portion of the gas spring. Since the described gas spring mounting device is made of the single wire, it can be produced at lower cost.

The method includes the steps of feeding paper substrate from the continuous supply thereof into paper processing apparatus for guiding and transporting the substrate; imprinting a business format on the paper substrate received by the processing apparatus; adhesively applying pieces of tape at spaced points on the paper substrate received by the processing apparatus to form binary areas on the substrate having greater thickness than the substrate, the binary areas including a pair of layers, a layer of tape applied in relief to the substrate, and a layer of substrate corresponding in surface area to the tape layer; and die cutting one of the layers to form at least one label area adjacent to and peelable from the other layer.

    Abstract: A delayed action door closer that delays a portion of the closing of a door for an adjustably determined period of time after the door has been moved to its fully open position. An interdependent hydraulic speed control system utilizes a delayed action speed control regulating valve which controls the closing speed of the door in the delayed action zone only, and whose speed cannot be adjusted faster than the main closing speed, but can be adjusted to provide a desired delay time prior to the door closing under normal regulation. The placement of the interdependent hydraulic system in the checking end of the closer allows the closer to have a fully adjustable independent backcheck.

    Abstract: The surgical instrument for applying a staple suture comprises a body with a split frame having a .andgate.-shaped member, whose one leg carries a die with a number of recesses. There is provided a detachable rod adapted to interlink the free ends of the legs of the .andgate.-shaped member, said rod having stops which embrace from outside the free ends of the legs of the .andgate.-shaped member so as to form, together with said free ends, a lock joint featuring a retainer of the rod position, said retainer being in fact a shoulder provided at the free end of each of said legs. The free ends of the legs are capable of moving towards each other due to resilience of the .andgate.-shaped member, the amount of the abovesaid travel of the free ends of the legs towards each other depending upon the size of the retaining shoulder, while the detachable rod and the free ends of the legs are adapted to enter each other along the legs so as to interact through the flat spots provided thereon.

    Abstract: An improved book binding for heavy or bulky pages includes a binding member having a base strip and perpendicularly extending flexible fingers. The base strip and opposite finger ends are secured to the book near the flexible spine while the fingers provide flexible page holding portions which can flex with the spine to expand and contract in accommodating varying numbers of pages. Flexible binding flanges in several embodiments serve to connect the binding element to the book so the covers can be opened and closed independent of the flanges and the binding member.

    Abstract: An improved padding press adapted for convenient and relatively rapid padding of continuously variable sizes of paper, is disclosed. The padding press includes a base which incorporates a blower assembly for forced movement of heated air. A support board assembly, including a main support board, is slideably positioned on a top surface of the base and is adapted to occupy at least one predetermined fixed position thereon. An adjusting board is removably attachable to the base into a position wherein the adjusting board is substantially perpendicular to the main support board. The adjusting board has a pair of adjustably mounted guide rails adapted for receiving continuously variable sizes of paper. A clamping board is attachable to the support board assembly through a pair of cords and a clamping bracket assembly. Each cord is attached to the support board assembly through a rotatable and lockable spindle so that the tension of the cord is adjustable.

    Abstract: This is a machine which assists the operator in assembling paper dust jackets around the hard covers of a new book. The machine includes the plurality of vacuum suction cups mounted on a pair of oscillating transferring arms which transport the paper jacket from a supply stack to position the jacket on the back of a hard cover book while the book is being held in a positioning jig which also supports the covers in substantially horizontal position to receive the jacket from the vacuum cup and transfer arm assembly. The transfer arms are mounted on an oscillating shaft which is actuated by the positive air discharge from a compressor. A vacuum pump provides the vacuum for the suction cups. The chain and sprocket drive rotates the transfer arms and the suction cups from the plane of the pickup position to the plane defined by the book covers in the positioning jig during the transfer movement of the arms through their predetermined arc.

    Abstract: A releaseable hinge mechanism for use with a cover member, a bottom housing member having a deflectable support wall and a top housing member having a facing margin adjacent the support wall. A hinge is connected to the cover member and includes a central elongate portion terminating in a flatted distal end with a pair of flanking pivot pin portions received in a pair of cradle members located on the support wall. A compound bracket located on the facing margin has a spaced pair of relatively inflexible brace portions in facing relation with the flatted distal end and normally engaged in surface contact with the flatted end when the cover member is opened. The compound bracket includes a deflectable finger located between the pair of brace portions and arranged for surface contact with a pressure finger located on the top edge of the flatted distal end when the cover member is moved between a closed position and the opened position.

    Abstract: A book cover structure of the type having front and back covers for binding sheets therebetween. A backbone area is joined with the front and back covers. The backbone area is provided with spaced parallel strips of hot melt adhesive with transversely extending bridge means of hot melt adhesive extending therebetween the width of the backbone area. Spaced score lines are positioned between the parallel strips under the bridges in parallel relation relative to the strips to enable the user to flex the binding along selectable score lines relative to the backbone area. The bridge means of hot melt adhesive and the strips comprise means for holding sheets in bound engagement with the backbone area. The bridge means of hot melt adhesive extend across the score lines and thus provide continuity of adhesive on opposite sides of and across the score lines.

A pair of additional contact members extend into the alignment cavity and are adapted for piercing intact portions of the coaxial cable for making electrical connection with the conductive braid encircling the central conductor. Movement of the central conductor away from the elongate contact is inhibited by a cable piercing head of the contact and can be further precluded by a plunger which abuts the central conductor directly opposite the elongate contact.

    Abstract: A combination dual wheel castor and jack combination assembly is disclosed. The assembly comprises a support structure having a nut-like portion and elongated portions attached to the nut-like portion. The hole is internally threaded along at least a portion of its length. By gripping and turning the nut-like portion of the support structure, the shaft portion of the jack means is caused to move relative to the support structure in one direction or the other.
