  • Patent number: 4841280
Abstract: A visual display apparatus comprises a multisegment bar display (2) having display characters (16) divided into two groups. In the first group individual outer segment bars (17) are each associated with a respective permanent marking which indicates a specific information item or class of information items, and are connected in a closed cycle whereby the instantaneously actuated display can be advanced forward or backward in the closed cycle from one segment bar (17) to another by keys (4,5). A sequence of display patterns representing parameter values is displayed in the second group of display characters (16), which sequence and which set depends on the segment bar (17) which is instantaneously actuated in the first group, and a desired parameter value can be selected from among the sequence by depressing an "acceptance" key (6).

  • Patent number: 4839646
Abstract: A movement parameter sensor for sensing of parameters of movement between a stator member defining a frame of reference and a rotor member movable relative to the stationary member about a rotation axis. The sensor includes field providing means for generating an electric field located at the stator member, the field providing means including a pole arrangement comprising an array of four source electrode means arranged adjacent to each other along a field line around the rotation axis. The field providing means includes an excitation signal generator for generating four equal frequency excitation signals at 90 degree increments of phase, each one of the four excitation signals being applied to a respective one of the four source electrode means such that a virtually moving electric field is created at the source electrode means so that the electric field effectively moves relative to the stator member along the field line.

  • Patent number: 4839639
Abstract: A paging receiver includes an improved battery saving circuit which reduces battery usage by powering the radio section and the waveform shaping circuitry only during intervals which include address codewords specific to the given receiver group. Power is not supplied during intervals containing synchronization code signals other than during the first such interval directly following the preamble code. Upon detecting a preamble code during said intervals, power is supplied continuously for a time period sufficient to encompass the synchronization code interval.

  • Patent number: 4839643
Abstract: Switches having a relatively high forward resistance are provided in a broadband signal switching equipment comprising a crosspoint matrix constructed in field effect transistor technology and provided with input drivers and output amplifiers. The output amplifiers respectively comprise an iterative network of a hysteresis-affected comparator and a D flip-flop, as well as a holding memory and a switch by way of which the holding memory is reloaded in a respective primary phase of a bit switching time interval. The reloading occurs at least approximately to the potential momentarily prevailing on the output line section leading away from the switch, this potential then continuing to be maintained at the second comparator input in the following switching phase.

  • Patent number: 4837563
Abstract: In a graphics display system a counter for performing either a line drawing algorithm or a bit block transfer algorithm where the counter is performing the bit block transfer algorithm includes a first counter circuit counting from a first initial state to a first predetermined value and a second counter circuit counting from a second initial state to a second predetermined value. The second counter counts in response to the first counter reacing to its predetermined value. In support of a line drawing algorithm, the counter circuit reconfigures itself to provide a first counter to count from its first initial state to the first predetermined value and a second counter to compute a parameter value and to conditionally count from a second initial value to a second predetermined value in response to the value of this parameter. These counters are connected to an addressing circuit to increment the addresses in performance of the algorithms.

  • Patent number: 4837839
Abstract: A speaker transducer assembly is disclosed which includes first and second speaker diaphragms supported on a frame in over and under juxtaposition. Each of the speaker diaphragms has a central opening defining an inner periphery which is attached to a voice coil form for coaxial movement therewith and in unison. An intermediate baffle is coaxially positioned between the speaker diaphragms to define upper and lower, separately vented chambers. The upper chamber is vented through an outlet in the region of the outer peripheries of the first speaker diaphragm and the intermediate baffle; similarly, the lower chamber is vented through an outlet situated in the region of the outer peripheries of the second speaker diaphragm and the intermediate baffle. Preferably, the two vent systems have different vent exhaust areas to obtain stagger tuning and thus achieve a split of the deepest frequency load.

  • Patent number: 4833462
Abstract: A raster-scanned interlaced cathode ray tube display is refreshed from a bit buffer (1). Cursor control logic (17) compares the refresh address (3, 4) with a desired cursor address and generates cursor defining bit patterns in synchronism with the bit pattern derived from the bit buffer (1). The cursor control logic (17) also generates overlay information (25) to control the mixing of the bit streams in mixers (11, 12, 13) to produce a 2 or 3-pel wide cross-hair cursor on the CRT screen. The cursor lines can be black, white or transparent. The overlay signal may also be used to control a further optional mixer combining the composite cursor bit-buffer bit patterns with bit patterns derived from a coded character buffer containing coded alphanumeric characters to be displayed.

  • Patent number: 4831370
Abstract: A vibrating fiber optic display unit is provided for use as an aircraft pilot display unit and for overcoming the problem of manually adjusting the display unit due to temperature changes. The display unit has a fiber optic ribbon having a plurality of fibers which form a display pattern at the free ends of the fibers during vibration of the fiber optic ribbon. The ribbon has light emitting diodes for the fibers. A microprocessor provides signals to the diodes for forming light dots in the display pattern. A piezo film transducer is mounted on the ribbon. Drive means vibrates the ribbon. An optocoupler has a shutter portion mounted on the ribbon. A ribbon oscillator network receives signals from the optocoupler and from the piezo film transducer and provides signal to the drive means, whereby the ribbon is vibrated at its natural frequency, and whereby the drive means automatically adjusts to changes in the ribbon natural frequency due to temperature change.
