    Abstract: A char recycling system capable of easily determining whether or not a char exhausting pipe is blocked by char. The char recycling system comprises: a stand pipe (31) forming a vertically-downwards flowpath (33) through which char is conveyed; and a differential pressure gauge (41) that measures the pressure difference between the pressure in a downstream area (45) in the vertically-downwards flowpath (33) and the pressure in an upstream area (46) in the vertically-downwards flowpath (33). The pressure difference fluctuates when char accumulates between the downstream area (45) and the upstream area (46) in the vertically-downwards flowpath (33). As a result, this kind of char recovery system is capable of easily determining whether or not the vertically-downwards flowpath (33) is blocked by char, on the basis of the measured pressure difference.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing waste water generated during oilfield drilling operations with a mobile processing unit utilizing heat energy sourced from burning hydrocarbon fuel directly and/or capturing and using the exhaust heat energy generated by burning hydrocarbons in engines such as diesel engines in order to vaporize a dominant mass of the aqueous phase of the waste water while clarifying the heat source combustion gasses. The water vapor generated by the vaporization process may be discharged directly to the atmosphere or alternately condensed and captured for use as potable water. The residual waste water is thereby concentrated and the cost to dispose of the waste water is greatly reduced.

A manifold arrangement distributes an unprocessed fluid from the vaporization chamber to a first subset of the chambers and distributes the fluidic output from the compressor to a second subset of the chambers.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus are presented for reducing the methanol content in a fermented solution to create forms healthier to human consumption, thereby reducing headaches and hangovers. In accordance with the disclosed embodiments, the fermented solution is placed in a vacuum vessel and heated to a fixed temperature. Pulling a fixed vacuum within the vessel lowers the boiling point of the solution, creating a vapor selectively of the low-end congeners, for example, methanol. The methanol-rich vapor is condensed and disposed leaving a healthier fermented solution with reduced methanol content. In some embodiments, the fixed temperature is lower than or equal to 32 degrees C. which preserves the aroma and taste of the fermented solution.

    Abstract: The solar desalination system is a hybrid system combining a Fresnel solar concentrator with a desalination chamber, and which uses membrane distillation for desalination of seawater. The desalination chamber includes a lower wall having a central absorber base, at least one sidewall, and an upper wall. A pair of hydrophobic membranes are mounted within the desalination chamber such that a central chamber is defined therebetween above the absorber base. The desalination chamber is suspended above a linear Fresnel reflector array so that the absorber base is positioned at a focal line thereof. Seawater is fed into the central chamber, where it is heated to produce water vapor, which passes through the pair of hydrophobic membranes into a pair of condensate retrieval chambers. The water vapor cools in the pair of condensate retrieval chambers, and may then be removed in the form of pure water.
