Abstract: A vehicle includes one or more cameras that capture a plurality of two-dimensional images of a three-dimensional object. A light detector and/or a semantic classifier search within those images for lights of the three-dimensional object. A vehicle signal detection module fuses information from the light detector and/or the semantic classifier to produce a semantic meaning for the lights. The vehicle can be controlled based on the semantic meaning. Further, the vehicle can include a depth sensor and an object projector. The object projector can determine regions of interest within the two-dimensional images, based on the depth sensor. The light detector and/or the semantic classifier can use these regions of interest to efficiently perform the search for the lights.

Abstract: An information display device includes an information acquisition unit configured to acquire information; a position acquisition unit configured to acquire position information indicating a position of the information display device; a determination unit configured to determine an output mode for the information acquired by the information acquisition unit based on the position information acquired by the position acquisition unit; a conversion unit configured to convert the information acquired by the information acquisition unit based on the output mode determined by the determination unit; and an output unit configured to output the information converted by the conversion unit based on the output mode determined by the determination unit. The determination unit is configured to determine, as the output mode, a display mode complying with laws and regulations applicable to the position of the information display device based on the position information.

Abstract: An alert system to prevent abandonment of a living being in a vehicle, the alert system including a pad removably disposed on at least a portion of an interior of the vehicle to monitor and store data related to the living being in response to the living being being disposed on the pad, and at least one master fob to receive the data related to the living being from the pad and to generate an alert in response to the master fob being moved a predetermined distance away from the pad and based on at least a portion of the received data indicating that that the living being is disposed on the pad.

Abstract: Systems and methods for alerting trailing aircraft about conditions experienced by a leading aircraft are disclosed herein. The systems and methods include an aircraft lighting system, which includes at least one external aircraft light and a memory module configured to store at least one criterion associated with an aircraft parameter. The systems and methods further include a receiver module operably connected to the memory module which is configured to receive an aircraft parameter. The systems and methods also include a processor module operably connected to the memory module, the receiver module and the at least one external aircraft light, the processor being configured to compare the received aircraft parameter to the stored at least one criterion and is further configured to determine, on the basis of the comparison, whether to cause illumination of the at least one external aircraft light for observance by trailing aircraft.

Abstract: A network controller (200, 300) corresponding communication device (400) and method for providing a caller identification to a called party comprises a receiver (202) for receiving a communication and a corresponding first identifier from a communication device (400), a controller for selecting a second identifier from a plurality of identifiers, each of the plurality of identifiers corresponding to the communications device (400), and a transmitter (204) coupled to the controller for providing the second identifier as the caller identification to the called party. The communication device (400) may be used to select the second identifier as well as signal a second communication infrastructure (300) to block calls before forwarding from the second communication infrastructure (300) to the first communication infrastructure (200).

Abstract: A method for processing custom tags in a document object model (DOM) representation irrespective of the case in which the tags are authored. In an illustrative embodiment, a document object model (DOM) tree is processed to identify custom tags. Upon encountering a custom tag, an appropriate tag handler (e.g., a Java object, an XSL stylesheet, or the like) is invoked. According to the invention, a tag recognition routine is used for recognizing and handling case-insensitive custom tags. As a servlet engine is examining a tag name, if the name does not match one of the registered tags, the routine converts the name to neutral case. If the tag recognition routine recognizes the name as one of the case-insensitive tags, it converts the attributes to the appropriate case, and hands the resulting element off to a correct tag handler for processing.

Abstract: Browser software loaded on a customer's system during a factory pre-install process that includes an identifying information for a computer system in a universal resource locator pre-installed on the system hard drive is described. HTML content pre-installed on the hard drive by a vendor includes identifying information so that when the customer contacts the vendor via the worldwide web, the customer and system are automatically identified to the vendor.

Abstract: A client-server system for making electronically published documents available over a computer network processes electronically published documents in a first markup language into document in a second markup language using a mapping table. A client viewer can request a portion of the electronically published document and the server sends only the selected portion, converted to the second markup language. If the selected portion is too big, the server can send a summary review such as a table of contents and description of the selected document.

Abstract: A technique for implementing in a networked client-server environment, e.g., the Internet, network-distributed advertising in which advertisements are downloaded, from an advertising server to a browser executing at a client computer, in a manner transparent to a user situated at the browser, and subsequently displayed, by that browser on an interstitial basis, in response to a click-stream generated by the user to move from one web page to the next. Specifically, an HTML advertising tag is embedded into a referring web page. This tag contains two components. One component effectively downloads, from an distribution web server and to an extent necessary, and then persistently instantiates an agent at the client browser. This agent “politely” and transparently downloads advertising files, for a given advertisement into browser cache and subsequently plays those media files through the browser on an interstital basis and in response to a user click-stream.

Abstract: An accelerated video controller operates in conjunction with a video driver to accelerate certain video operations. If the operating environment requests a polygon operation, the driver (or software on the video controller) will determine whether the specified polygon is simple convex. The determination of whether a convex polygon is simple convex is accomplished by tracing between the vertices of the polygon and comparing the changes in direction relative to a predetermine coordinate axis to a threshold number. If the polygon is simple convex, certain operations can be performed using simpler code or hardware accelerated features. For a polygon fill, if the polygon is simple convex, the edges of the polygon are inspected to determine whether the polygon can be decomposed into a rectangle and a smaller polygon. If so, the video controllers bit engine will be used to perform the fill of the rectangle at high speed, thus reducing the time of the operation.

Abstract: The objective of the present invention is to provide a document classification apparatus, which utilizes extracted keywords from the bodies of documents to classify the documents. The document classification apparatus is mainly made up of the following apparatus: A 5W1H keyword extraction apparatus that extracts keywords with 5W1H attributes in an entered document. The classification key setting apparatus that sets the 5W1H attributes entered by a user as classification keys. The classification item selection apparatus that selects keywords as classification items from the extracted keywords with the 5W1H attributes set as the classification keys. The document distribution apparatus that distributes a document including the previously selected classification items with the 5W1H attributes set as classification keys, into a cell corresponding to the classification items. Enabling documents to be classified from meaningful 5W1H viewpoints.

Abstract: A system for presenting updated content on a networked computer receives communications such as those sent by a wire copy service. The system processes the communications, organizes the communications by subject matter, and creates title or summary files. If the communications relate only to parts of stories, those communications are assembled together in a file identified by a subject identifier of the story. When a user of the system requests content, the system calls a template, which provides the format for transmitting the content. The template calls an appropriate file and inserts that file into the template to create a page. The page is then transmitted to the user. The templates may also automatically create hyperlinks in order to call up other files of content as requested by a user.

Abstract: A system for providing a simple, easy to learn and flexible means of creating user interfaces to products under development without the need of a programming language or the need to learn a large set of complicated commands. The Visual Software Engineering ("VSE") system of the invention uses a simple concept of defining both input to and output from graphical objects in an object-oriented system by providing examples of what the user desires the graphical object to do. This technique is referred to herein as "animation by example". In accordance with this process, the user creates a user interface by drawing the user interface with a graphics editor and then defining the output behavior (i.e., graphics manipulation) of the user interface components by showing each state or frame as an animation. This is accomplished by changing the object using a graphic editor function such as move or rotate and storing each of the frames with the object as a behavior state.

Abstract: A data visualization arrangement facilitates the display of a selected region of a multi-dimensional data object in a selected one of a plurality of display modes. The arrangement comprises a data object store, an interface, an object region retrieval component and a display. The data object store stores the data object, the data object comprising a plurality of data items in a predetermined organization. The interface receives a region identification for identifying a particular region of the object and a display mode identification. The object region retrieval component retrieves data items from a region of the data object as identified by the region identification received by the interface. Finally, the display receives the data items as retrieved by the object region retrieval mechanism and displays them in the display mode as identified by the display mode identification.

Abstract: An electronic spreadsheet system of the present invention includes a notebook interface having a plurality of notebook pages, each of which may contain a spread of information cells, or other desired page type (e.g., Graphs page). The system includes a spreadsheet application development module having a user interface (UI) builder. The UI builder provides "live" links between system objects. In particular, link commands are provided as statements a developer may attach to a control to indicate what should happen when an end-user activates or changes the control. Link commands usually specify three things: an event, an action, and an object. The event indicates what occurrence should trigger the link command; the action indicates what should happen. The object is what should be acted upon. One control can have many link commands. In operation, a link command can send a value to a cell in the notebook, run a macro, close a dialog box, change the zoom factor in the notebook, or the like.

Abstract: The storyline of a dynamically generated entertainment program, such as a video game, is generated using a matrix of reusable storyline fragments called substories. A set of characters that participate in the storyline is established and a set of reusable substories is defined. Each substory represents a "fragment of a story", usually involving an action by a subject, where the subject is one of the characters. Most substories can be reused multiple times with different ones of the characters being the subject and different ones of the characters being the direct object of the substory. Each substory has a set of possible reaction substories, which are a subset of the defined substories. A plan list stores plan data indicating ones of the substories to be performed at specified times. An initial "seed story" in the form of an initial set of substories is stored in the plan list. The substories stored in the plan list are executed at times corresponding to their respective specified times.

Abstract: A practical kerning method and electronic typo-graphic/editing apparatus which is capable of arranging characters such that two characters do not come too close to each other across a small character or sign included in a character string. In positioning an object character with a space reduction relative to an immediately preceding character, a space (character space) between the first character and the third character of three characters, for example, is determined after the three characters are arranged with successive space reductions. This first to third character facing space is checked to see if it is smaller than a reference space. When the first to third character facing space is smaller than the reference space, a correction is made to at least one of a space reduction amount for the second character and a space reduction amount for the third character.

Abstract: A method for presenting applications in an interactive service featuring steps for generating screen displays of the service applications at the reception systems of the respective users. Steps are provided for generating the application displays as screens having a plurality of partitions, the partitions being constructed from reusable elements. In accord with the method, the screens include at least a first partition at which an application may be presented and a second, concurrently displayed partition including command functions for managing the display. The method further includes steps for providing command functions that facilitate random navigation to new applications with a variety of different procedures which the user can choose from. In (preferred) one form, the functions are presented as a command bar located at the bottom of the screen.

Abstract: A document processing apparatus which can edit to a sheet which is displayed on a display screen. This apparatus includes a format setting device to set format information regarding a character editing, a size information deciding device to decide size information in which an interval corresponding to the format information is used as a unit; a figure input device to input a figure on the same display screen as that upon the character editing; and a display controller for controlling the display such that the figure input by the figure input device is displayed in accordance with the size information decided by the size information deciding device. The size information includes a point train called grids serving as reference marks when inputting a figure. With this apparatus, characters, a figure, a picture, and a form can be input and edited to arbitrary positions on a document while observing the state of the print bound document without newly designating an area.
