  • Patent number: 9948891
Abstract: An A/V conference device located in each of a plurality of A/V conference call spaces operates to receive, process and transmit audio and video information over a network to a far-end location during a conference call, and an A/V conference service operates in the network to setup, support, and terminate conference calls between the A/V conference devices. The A/V conference call device has conference call control functionality that detects the presence of one or more individuals in the conference call space, and which prompts the individuals for call setup information that is sent to the A/V conference service operating in the network. The individual can move to be present in any one of a plurality of available conference spaces and initiate a conference call without the need to provide scheduling information to the A/V conference service prior to or after entering the space.

  • Patent number: 9948892
Abstract: A wireless speaker device configured for use with a wireless A/V recording and communication device, such as a doorbell. The wireless speaker device, which includes a speaker, may connect to the user's local area network (LAN), such as a Wi-Fi network. The LAN is connected to a wide area network (WAN), such as the Internet and/or a public switched telephone network (PSTN). When the wireless A/V recording and communication device detects a visitor, it sends a signal, via the LAN, to at least one device in the WAN, such as a server and/or a service. In response, the at least one device in the WAN sends a signal, via the LAN, to the wireless speaker device. The signal to the wireless speaker device includes a command for the wireless speaker device to emit a tone through its speaker. The wireless speaker device then emits a tone through its speaker to alert the user that a visitor is at the wireless A/V recording and communication device.

  • Patent number: 9930299
Abstract: In a battery-powered audio/video recording and communication device having a camera, the length of a preset interval (the interval between instances of the device sending a request to a network to check whether any user requests to access the camera have been received) may be adjusted upward or downward in order to balance the competing interests of reducing latency (e.g. reducing the delay that the user may experience when trying to access the camera) and conserving battery life. The present embodiments advantageously balance these competing interests by initially setting the length of the preset interval to be relatively short to reduce latency, but automatically increasing the length of the preset interval as the battery charge is depleted, thereby extending battery life. The present embodiments also advantageously enable the length of the preset interval to be increased after the battery is recharged, thereby reducing latency.

  • Patent number: 9924112
Abstract: A handheld communication device is used to capture video streams and generate a multiplexed video stream. The handheld communication device has at least two cameras facing in two opposite directions. The handheld communication device receives a first video stream and a second video stream simultaneously from the two cameras. The handheld communication device detects a speech activity of a person captured in the video streams. The speech activity may be detected from direction of sound or lip movement of the person. Based on the detection, the handheld communication device automatically switches between the first video stream and the second video stream to generate a multiplexed video stream. The multiplexed video stream interleaves segments of the first video stream and segments of the second video stream. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 9906755
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for collective contribution video creation and messaging wherein story-based communications are created among multiple users. The disclosed method uses a program or application wherein a virtual object is used to authorize a particular user to make the immediate post to the applicable story communication. The possession of the virtual object also indicates that any user that does not have possession of the virtual objection is unable to presently contribute to the group storyline. Once the user in possession of the virtual object submits his or her content, the virtual object is made available. Any user inside the story seeking to gain control may then attempt to obtain the virtual object. The present disclosure aids users in creating story timelines of their contributions, as well as promoting full contribution from all group members in messaging.

  • Patent number: 9894322
Abstract: The present invention provides a video conference system. The video conference system includes a plurality of terminal equipment and a server. Each of the terminal equipment estimates and transmits real-time bandwidth and conference requirements to the server. A multipoint control unit of the server includes a multipoint controller and a multipoint processor. The multipoint controller determines, according to the real-time bandwidth and the conference requirements, a transfer rule and an allocation scheme corresponding to each of the terminal equipment. The multipoint processor receives the transfer rule and voice data stream or video data stream from the terminal equipment. The server transmits each of the allocation schemes to the corresponding terminal equipment. When any of the terminal equipment transmits new real-time bandwidth or new conference requirements to the server, the multipoint controller determines the transfer rule and the allocation schemes once again.

Abstract: Implementations relate to providing animated user identifiers. In some implementations, a computer-executed method includes determining that a video call over a communication network is connected between a first device associated with a first user and a second device associated with a second user. The method stores a set of multiple images that are received by the first device as part of the video call, and forms a motion clip including the set of multiple images and indicating a sequence of the set of multiple images for display. The method assigns the motion clip to a user identifier associated with the second user, and causes display of the motion clip to visually represent the second user in response to the user identifier being displayed in at least one user interface on the first device.
