    Abstract: A method and system for performing synthetic loss measurements (SLM) includes methods for single-ended and dual-ended synthetic loss measurements. The methods include maintaining a session number indicative of a physical network component at each maintenance point used to perform synthetic loss measurements. The session numbers are maintained according to a novel protocol and are used to detect a change in the network component, such as resulting from a protection switch event. The session numbers enable the synthetic loss measurements to continue irrespective of changes in the values for the session numbers and to remove errors when computing frame loss that may arise when physical network components change. The disclosed methods and systems may be used when a link aggregation group exists between a local maintenance point and a remote maintenance point.

A soft decision unit (112) uses the reliability of the plurality of subcarriers, which is calculated based on the detected interference levels, to perform a soft decision of a demodulated signal of the received data part. An error correction unit (113) performs, based on the result of the soft decision, an error correction, thereby reconstructing the data.

When determining a reference time for estimating packet throughput, a receiver determines the time that a data burst starts or ends in order to estimate the packet throughput considering a change in the data burst of the transmitter buffer. A measurement period is defined through the determined start time and end time of the data burst, and packet throughput is measured considering the total amount of the received data burst. The throughput of packet data may be estimated by each base station based on the same standard rule, so that the measured packet throughput values may be reliable, thus allowing the operator to make use of it as a parameter for MDT.

A modulation and coding scheme for a transmission from the small call may be determined, wherein the transmission is associated with an almost blank subframe transmission from the macro cell.
