Abstract: Video and audio data are recorded onto video and audio signal recording areas of a track of a record medium, these areas being included either in one of several segments in the track or the track being comprised of only a single segment of video and audio signal recording areas. Audio data that is supplied at substantially the same time as the video data is compressed and recorded in a first audio sector of the audio signal recording area. Then, depending upon whether a first or second audio signal recording mode is selected, either compressed audio data which is derived from the audio data supplied at substantially the same time as the video data or independent compressed audio data is provided. The derived or independent compressed audio data is recorded in a second audio sector of the audio signal recording area.

  • Patent number: 5400148
Abstract: A video signal processing apparatus for processing a video signal includes a plurality of series-connected signal processing circuits. A plurality of timing control circuits for respectively controlling the plurality of signal processing circuits in accordance with a reference signal are provided. At least one of the plurality of timing control circuits inputs a timing signal conforming to the reference signal, and delays the passage of the timing signal therethrough by a time interval corresponding to a delay time of the video signal generated by the corresponding signal processing circuit and outputs a delayed timing signal. Consequently, it is possible to minimize a change in the timing control circuits, that is, a change in the overall apparatus, caused by the partial change in the design of the signal processing circuits.

  • Patent number: 5394249
Abstract: When the low bit rate coding is effected in a recording system 1A, a signal is coded and recorded in a hierarchical structure. On the reproduction side, the type of a recorded signal (the low bit rate coded signal of the hierarchical structure, non-hierarchical structure, conventional analog recording or the like) is determined by a determination system 1E and the operation modes of a digital signal processing system 1G and an analog signal processing system 1F are set. The analog signal processing system processes a reproduced signal when it is analog signal. • Patent number: 5392128
Abstract: A still video device in which identical image signals for one still image are recorded in two tracks of a recording medium, and the image signals recorded in the tracks are reproduced. The still video device has two magnetic heads for recording and reproducing the image signals. The image signals reproduced by the two magnetic heads are added together. An envelop-detected signal of the added-together image signals is obtained, and a phase of the reproduced signal is controlled in such a manner that the envelop-detected signal reaches a maximum value, whereby a C/N ratio of the reproduced signal is improved. Further, the recording mode of the image signals are determined based on the added-together image signals.

  • Patent number: 5392127
Abstract: A comb filter circuit (1) with a usual comb filter (3) contains a circuit to detect line-parallel color edges. To that effect, envelope curves (Sf2, Sf3) are created from the addition signal (Sb) and the subtraction signal (Sc) of the delayed and the undelayed color signal (Si) on the input side of envelope curve demodulators (23, 15), and a control signal (St) is created in a comparator circuit (38) by comparing the envelope curves, which adjusts the signal portions of the transmitted and delayed color signal on the input side, and transmits them with an adjustable electronic fader control (40) to the signal output (29) of the comb filter circuit. To ensure trouble-free control even under operating conditions, during which a large portion of cross talk signals are scanned, an additional comb filter (31) is connected to the signal path of the subtraction signal (Sc), which eliminates most of the cross talk portions on this signal path.

  • Patent number: 5377012
Abstract: A color signal processing circuit for a VCR includes: an APC circuit for recording; an APC circuit for playback; a first circuit providing a color signal for recording; a second circuit providing a color signal for playback; and a switch block having a selection switch selecting one of the output signal lines of the first and second circuits to provide a color signal to the APC circuit for recording or the APC circuit for playback. In the color signal processing circuit, an emitter follower for outputting a signal are provided to each of the first and second circuits, and a switch operating in synchronization with an operation of the selection switch and providing a voltage for disabling the emitter follower of an un-selected signal line through the un-selected signal line is provided to the switch block. According to the above feature, when a signal line is selected between the signal lines by the selection switch, the un-selected signal line does not affect the other signal line and other circuits.

  • Patent number: 5371604
Abstract: In an apparatus for multi-segment recording/reproducing of a compressed digital video signal, a reproduced position within a group unit of the video signal is detected by a reproduced position detector in its reproducing state. A relative position detector detects and stores a phase difference of the reproduced position and a position indicated by a reference signal synchronized with the input video signal. A delay time adjuster adjusts a delay time of the compressed video signal according to this phase difference. A head is changed over from its reproducing state to its recording state by a switch so as to record the compressed video signal delayed by the delay time adjuster on a recording medium.

  • Patent number: 5355226
Abstract: A magnetic recording-reproduction apparatus records and reproduces a wide-band video signal without a color burst signal. For this purpose, a two-step phase resetting operation is conducted on the FM carrier at the front porch and the horizontal sync pulse of the video signal so as to permit those phases to coincide with reference phases. A synchronizing panel clock generator generates the first reference signal with the first FM frequency corresponding to a peak level of the horizontal sync pulse and the second reference signal with the second FM frequency corresponding to a front porch level. In this case, the reference signals are phase-synchronous with each other at the leading edge of the horizontal sync pulse, and each of the FM frequencies is set to be an integer multiple of the horizontal scanning frequency.
